I hope you don’t mind if I share my Northridge quake with you, just to give you an idea what it felt like. It was a crashing, strong jolt. It literally threw me out of bed. I remember trying to make it down the hall to check on my family, and as I ran, I literally bounced off the walls.
It wasn’t horrible, it was just a huge shock waking up like that. Anything not secured went flying.
We were prepared in that our heavy items were mounted to the walls or the ceiling, but anything not secured went airborne.
Just be prepared, cuz it seems like the really strong ones usually strike in the early morning hours.

No damage where I was but Mom was closer to the epicenter. The cabinet doors flew open, her glass and china items were thrown to the floor. In the Quake of 1989 in SF I rushed to get away from the overhead lights that were swinging hard. Three blocks from there people died from bricks falling onto their cars in the parking lot as they left work. Big quakes are no joke.

They never mention that the big one is for northern California, Not Southern California.
ohhhh…. Nevermind. It is the Southern california fault that is accumulating strain.
“The San Andreas Fault (SAF) has accumulated a slip deficit of about 6-8 meters over the last 300 years due to its slow movement rate. The fault's average slip rate is between 20-35 millimeters (mm) per year, or about an inch per year. However, the southern San Andreas is mostly locked and continues to accumulate strain, which will be released in future earthquakes.”

I had just stopped to purchase some broken windows and then I was on the way to my hynas pad when I felt the car shaking. I looked over at this torta that had been crossing the street at that moment and she was shaking too. As Chick Hearn use to say "the Jell-O was jiggling". The ranfla was shaking so hard that my pipa fell and broke so now I have to go purchase a new oil burner. But other than that there was no extension damages occurred. Edit: My hyna just told me that I meant to say no expensive damages occurred. Oops! I mean no extensive damages occurred!

When I was growing up in California we lived in a cabin that sat on a rolling layer which means that when we had a quake the two crusts would grind against each other pushing one or the other up or down. Anytime there was a shaker it felt like it was moving the house an inch or two in either direction.
