They sound beautiful together! Not a wonder that Melanie C got so many 5 stars reviews for the role on Blood Brothers and an Olivier Awards nomination! She’s brilliant!
Awesome collab i love both 😘🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰❤️ Moulin Rouge one of my favorite movies and Come Way May one of my favorite songs it's beyond beautiful!! Alfie voice 🥰🥰🥰
Come What May is one of two original songs from the old Baz Luhrmann movie-musical Moulin Rouge (originally starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor). Alfie Boe is a classically trained tenor (and IMO one of the best male vocalists alive) known for MANY things, but probably chief among them various runs as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables. Mel C rose to fame as one of the Spice Girls, the British pop band.
Never knew I could feel like this Like I've never seen the sky before I want to vanish inside your kiss Every day I love you more and more Listen to my heart Can't you hear it sings Telling me to give you everything Seasons may change Winter to spring But I love you Until the end of time Come what may Come what may I will love you Until my dying day Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste It all revolves around you And there's no moutain too high No river too wide Sing out this song and I'll be there by your side Storm clouds may gather And stars may collide But I love you I love you Until the end of time Come what may Come what may I will love you Until my dying day Come what may Come what may I will love you I will love you I will love you Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place Come what may (Come what may) Come what may (Come what may) I will love you Until my dying day
I agree with other comments here. Their voices are not well matched. Both are amazing singers independently but both very different styles with when put together don't sound great unfortunately.
Not at all! She's was technically perfect! When someone 'struggles' theres an unnatural movement of the platysma and the carotid artery... just not the case! You can tell her breathing is comfortable! It's visual, maybe not that clear if you don't know much human anatomy 🧐
@@drluizpires she has awful tone, was 'pitchy' . She was absolutely NOT technically perfect,if she wasn't a an ex spice girl shed never be on that stage.
I think you can put that down to poor sound engineering. I've seen Mel in Jesus Christ Superstar; she absolutely does have a vocal talent. But I've heard performances where the sound engineering resulted in the background music being foregrounded too much or one performer being foregrounded too much at the expense of another, and this certainly seemed to be the case here.
Completely agree.... I like Mel C however I think she struggles to match the power that Alfie produces.... Imagine a lot of singers would have this issue though
I got shocked and I thought I missed the running of Moulin Rouge here. 🤧 I’m no expert but I feel like there’s not much chemistry that’s probably why we couldn’t feel the genuineness and love of the song since this was the SECRET LOVE SONG.
If you're gonna go full operatic, go full operatic. One pop singer and one opera singer just sounds wrong. The tambre is off. The tone is off. Even when they both sing the correct note, it sounds like she is flat and he is sharp. 🤷♀️ Just my opinion.
@bad1dobby I've never been a great speller. Lol. To be fair, most people are outclassed when put up next to Alfie Boe. I love Idina, but her placement is too forward and would not blend with him well... I'd have paired him with Sierra Boggess or the legendary Lea Salonga. ^_^ Someone with a similar classic opera placement and true chest belt. ;)
@bad1dobby Outclassed is exactly the right word, Mel is a fantastic vocalist (loved her in JCSS) but @Tilly Dee hit the nail on the head, they needed to pair Alfie Boe with an operatic singer.
Another 'marketing' scheme..."let's put two singers from different genres together to draw their respective fans to the concert" to maximize profits. Sometimes it works, in this case it did not. Setting a classically trained voice with one that is not is a risk if the classically trained voice does not attempt to compensate. Alfie Boe has a beautiful voice, as does Melanie C. But Alfie chose to go full bore and not 'blend'. Musical theatre is a hybrid genre where the 'operatic' may be suitable or not. I noticed one person commented that Melanie C was 'outclassed' by Alfie Boe. Rubbish! Both can sing with power and with tenderness. Alfie's 'power' is his training to project to the back row of the third balcony sans microphone. Melanie C's power is making us believe the emotions of the song. That's not to say that Alfie Boe cannot convey emotions in a believable manner. It's the difference in 'projection' that you perceive as flatness or sharpness. Just the opinion of a classically trained musician who has played in orchestras for opera singers and musicals.
Alfie was great, but Mel C sounded like she was reaching for the high notes, and they did not sound great together. It was still okay, but not the best.
I have to disagree with almost all the comments. While he has a phenomenal voice, it is not suited to this song at all, which is more of a Pop/Broadway duet. Mel’s voice is much more suited for it than his. They’re definitely mismatched but he shouldn’t be singing Christian’s part. Moulin Rouge isn’t an opera. It’s a pop musical.
There may be imperfections in this performance, but the big heart and down to earth soul of both Mel and Alphie rise fearlessly through in a stunning poor man's version of this classic. This rough hewn rendition will sweap you away in a makeshift trippy power love rocket to heaven, leaving the original behind. It's not high brow but none of us really are. Despite being told love and truth are out of reach this performance tells us that they actually live within each of us no matter how imperfect we are. Trust them, let them guide you as you build your rocket and when you are almost done, be brave enough to get on board and take it for a ride to heaven.
Okay, it's not the best compared to the movie. But with that said, I do love the song. Alfie is an amazing singer and Mel C has for me just improved more and more after ‘The Spice Girls’. 👏🏻👏🏻
I think it's due to the different style...it's difficult to merge an operatic with a pop voice - he should have adapt his style to a less operatic way of singing but I get it can be difficult with his training
I adore this song. And I do love Alfie’s voice, but to me a bit too… operatic in feel for this I guess. Also, after listening to that perfect lock of harmonies between Karen Olivo and Aaron Tveit where not even the performers themselves knows who’s singing what part… yeah this pairing doesn’t really work for me.
I agree with most of the comments here, except one thing. Mel C was FAR better matched than Alfie!! He had to lead the song and he started it all off key! He was trying way too hard to pull emotion and forcing his voice off....and Mel heard it! You can see her trying to coach his pitch with her hand movements. If you tune him out, this sounds SO much better.
why Mel C be lookin a bit like Alanis Morrisette in this vid? and is this just a one off, or is there a full viewing of the stage version of Moulin Rouge??
Would it have killed Alfie to tone it down a little, and not sing it so operatic? At the very least, to better match Mel C's level? You'd think it be easier for him to come down to her level, than the other way around.
Totally the wrong key for Mel C which is why she struggled but I thought she handled the harmonies really well. I saw Mel C in Blood Brothers and she was amazing, there's no doubt she CAN sing. I dislike when big singers like Boe and Ball cover pop songs, and, I know this was from a musical but let's be honest, Moulin Rouge was a pop musical.
Okay...no one will want to hear this...but I think parts of Melanie's duet with Alfie seems a bit out of her range. She has a beautiful voice but I love it when she sings in a lower register...seems that she is really reaching for some notes in a few parts of the song. I love it anyway....just a comment...just a comment...
Melanie is a great singer but she doesn’t have the lungs to be there with Alfie😭either go full operatic or go full pop cuz it’s jarring when you’ve got one powerhouse and one soft singing trying to shout as loud as she can and you can tell she’s not meant to be that loud
Ok. It wasn’t unpleasant to listen to. It certainly isn’t the best version I’ve heard. Both very talented vocalists, but kind of mismatched here. I’ll go listen to Ewan & Nicole from the film version to reset my barometer now.
I adore this this song and I have come to love Alfie a lot more over the past few years, but I'm in agreement with a lot of the other comment's - the voices just don't mix well, Mel always tries to push her "Spice Girls" voice just that little too far into West End and it's just a bit of a no-go for me, sorry. Her voice doesn't suit musical/show songs.
Alfie Boe. Fabulous!!
Mel C looks stunning x
Melanie C. Simply, PERFECT! ❤
What I wouldn't give for Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor to reunite to do this piece again.
Nothing beats the original

Nicole kidman is an amazing singer wish she'd had more singing parts in films
I only know this and Happy Feet as her singing roles lol
I cant say how much i love this,,,,For D

Amazing music, fantastic orchestra with great singers and beautiful show !
Absolutely gorgeous!

This was really well done! Yeah, their voices are different from each other. Both have managed to harmonise and they all did a marvelous job!
When a duet becomes a duel.
Separatedly they might sound better. Together not quite. It's just not a good match.
Love this song
I loved it! Mel C did great!

Omg! Melanie is stunning! 😍
Very beautiful song. I don't remember this song or know the two wonderful singers. The couple have a chemistry together. Great video

It depends on what you look for in a good performance. He has a beautiful voice, but there is no emotion.

Compliments to the Orchestra, the choir in the background and to Alfie Boe.

I really wanted to like this but their voices really don’t compliment each other’s.

Great emotional connection..........And Alfie is wonderful as always.

Not a great vocal match. Unfortunately you could barely hear Mel when they sang together. She also seemed to struggle vocally.

Alfie has so much soul 💗
They don’t fit, this was a weird combination of voices. Mel was “too little”, and Alfie was “too much”.

She was too screechy. First time a singer's accent has come out in her singing 🤣

I am not digging this version.
Sadly Mel C was out of her depth here...
This is like hearing your neighbour singing along to her favourite song...
His voice is pure and clear. Her voice sounds crackly, like she's a heavy smoker.
Okay, it's not the best compared to the movie.
But with that said, I do love the song. Alfie is an amazing singer and Mel C has for me just improved more and more after ‘The Spice Girls’. 👏🏻👏🏻
Boe could have toned the volume down, big time. A duet is a duet, not a competition.

Alfie is too powerful for Mel. Mel sounds like she’s singing too low.
I don't understand why Mel C is still getting special guest spots. She just doesn't have the chops to sing in this kind of arena.
I agree with you. This was horrible on her part
This arena? This is low karaoke standard to be honest.
No..... Just no. Rewatch the movie rather.
Did they ever show Moulin Rouge?
No, sadly. This is from Alfie’s show.
Mel wasn't the best here but she is Alfie's guest so he could have prepared a song that would suit her.
Alfie slaughtered Mel in the strength of his voice!
Compared to the original with Ewan McGregor/Nicole Kidman, this honestly hurt my ears 😖
