      This isn’t honesty! It’s fact. If I saw a dog and told you it was actually a cat when it’s actually a dog am I being honest? Hardly. If I saw a window and called it a balcony when it was actually a window am I being honest?😂

    Your analogy of an infinite balcony is like rolling down a window in a car is spot on. We had one on the Edge and we didn't like it. Also can't sneak out while husband is still in bed. But I feel for you having to stay in a suite for "research" - I can't imagine how much those suites are on the Icon.

    I’d love the seating near the infinite balcony! We never spent much time out in the balcony. When I do go out onto the balcony I feel separated from everyone in the room so the infinite balcony would allow the fresh breeze but still be a part of the room. I’d eat there everyday!

    I will always prefer a traditional balcony. I spend a LOT of time out there, reading and napping, enjoying the breeze. Also, I think it was Emma who said that the infinite balconies are often locked and you can't open it . . . due to weather or what have you. So there goes your balcony altogether.
    We always book a suite. We only vacation/cruise once every three or four years because of that, with the cost and all. But we want our vacation to be as stress free and un-annoying as possible. The thing we like the most about having a suite is the priority embarkation/disembarkation/tenders, and the absolutely seamless disembarkation at the end of the cruise. Last April, we were on Navigator. My husband and I were in a suite, and the two pairs of friends we were traveling with were in regular rooms. They were herded like cattle and had to wait in corridors with thousands of others, packed in for an hour trying to get off of the ship. That is THE WORST way I can think of ending a vacation and killing any kind of good feels I had just experienced. That alone is why we will save up and cruise less frequently, just so we can have that much of a better experience. Not to mention all of the concierge perks, like having the concierge book meals, shows, and excursions for us.

    As a Loyal Royal since 1996, I have to stay with the traditional balcony - Let's say you have your fancy window open and one of your room mates comes in - Anything and everything not nailed down will be in the hallway - How about if you have your window open, (forget about losing all your A/C in our Florida summer months), and you run down to grab a slice of pizza and return to find we have had one of the afternoon rain storms that happen about every day - All Is wet. You won't have as much fun traveling with other friends and family because you can't open the connecting balcony divider. Don't care about the window - save your money and get an ocean view room - the extra window room square footage ,(to me), isn't worth the extra money

    We have the infinite balcony booked for Icon this spring, and I think I'll love it. If I want to be outside, I'll find someplace on deck. In my cabin, I just need natural light and a view outside. And the extra living space will be awesome.

  • @brian07470
    @brian07470 6 месяцев назад +3

    I can see where the infinite balcony wouldn't be the best idea for the summer month cruises. You'd probably never want to open the window because of losing the AC in the room. I guess having the increased interior space would be nice but I too like a traditional balcony.

  • @jipis
    @jipis 6 месяцев назад +2

    A definite downside to an infinite balcony that I don't think you mentioned: If one person wants to be "out on the balcony" and the other person wants to be inside in the AC, you just can't do that with the IB! My wife and I do this a lot on our cruises with a standard balcony.

    I can see how they are trying new stuff. But the main problem would be the temperature control of the room. Those infinite balcony would let in all the hot air and you would have to wait hours to have your room a comfortable level again. While the normal balcony you could just close the door and keep the 100% hot caribbean humidity out of your room.

  • @trbstang

    We've had a traditional balcony on our last two cruises, and it's something we do enjoy, but didn't really use it that much. We got great deals on them, but we will probably try just an oceanview cabin next time. If the infinite balcony was priced between an oceanview and a true balcony, that would be a good option IMO.

  • @KarenCarlile
    @KarenCarlile 6 месяцев назад +1

    Couldn't agree with your infinite balcony description more - it's nothing more than a room with a window that opens. Was SO excited to try the infinite veranda on the Edge in 2019 and disliked it so much I've avoided the Edge class ships even when the itinerary is preferred over other cruise lines. Will consider an Edge class ship if a sunset veranda is available but if I can't have a legit balcony, I'll cruise another line because I enjoy the balcony so much. Like you mentioned, a major problem with an infinite veranda is how quickly the temperature in the cabin rises when the window is open and how long it takes for the AC to reach the desired temperature once closed. So glad we have options in the cruise industry so we can choose what we prefer.

    I actually like this floorplan since I tend to like ocean view rooms, this was a step up. What I always feared was the noise of neighboring cruisers on their balconies and found this setup to be quite nice. I was able to lower the window and get fresh air and sit comfortably in the room. I had a balcony room on one of my cruises and hardly ever sat out on the balcony. This room set up was very comfortable for me.

    Thanks, Matt, for the look at the balcony cabin vs. the suite with a large opening window. What we like is a balcony where you have a better view outside and someone inside doesn't need to hear all the noise and heat. Regarding all the USB outlets, depending on their power output, they might not work for tablets or faster charging. I prefer the regular power outlets with my own power brick for phone, tablet, and cameras. As far as proper closet storage shelves work better than ikea baskets.

    Coming from someone that has never had a balcony, always booked interior, but I loved the idea of the infinite balcony. Adds that much needed real estate in the room while still giving you a great view thru the open or closed window. Definitely not the same experience, but I personally could see that being a better option. Now our next cruise we actually have balconies (one facing boardwalk and one the ocean across the hall) on Wonder as it was less that 20% more than interiors that were separated by a dozen rooms or so. Maybe it is my woodenshoe side but I still wold much rather go on 4-5 cruises in 5 years in interiors than 2-3 fancier rooms as the ship is the experience.

    I also prefer a balcony. Reason being this. I have a two year old and I foresee it being the same even after he’s past taking naps. The balcony has a door, so when he’s sleeping we can go on the balcony and hangout, not worry about us walking him and having some us time. When he’s passed taking naps when he gets older, we can go on the balcony while he hangs out in the room. I feel the door on a balcony gives a separation while still being in the same place.
    So we have a two year old on a cruise so maybe the extra usable space would make sense. Well for us that’s where we find the jr suite a must and not a splurge because we get the space we need and the balcony, so dollar to comfort it pays for itself.

    I booked a balcony room on Celebrity. That cruise was switched to a newer ship, and I was put in their Infinity "balcony" room. Once I zoomed in on the room photos for the second ship, I cancelled the cruise because I could see it was not a balcony at all, regardless of what they are calling it. So I ended up on RCL. I agree Infinity is not a balcony room at all. It's actually deceptive labeling; it's a sunroom at best.

    The infinite balcony is a scam you open it the entire room gets hot so no way if I can’t do a regular balcony then I won’t cruise on the ship
