Chris Stuckmann's book about movies you need to see before you die and Jay's book of movies he hasn't seen are the same book, but somehow Jay's has more detailed info on why he hasn't watched them (and why Jay's a bad person)
I feel like his argument is basically back in the day bad games were charming. When you're a kid you play most of your games with your friends so the bad ones don't seem so bad. There are plenty of objective measurements to show that the gaming industry is likely repeating its 1980s game crash despite the high numbers.
Well there are still many successes, seems like the thing has become too big to fail by now. I mean will the industry care if Ubisoft goes down under? Or if Micro$oft buys up another worn out studio, forcing them to churn out slop after slop (barring Id Software who somehow got lumped in with Bethesda). Especially since China is flooding the market in every genre with arguably ever increasing quality while niche games still hold out strong (and come out strong like Lethal Company or Warhammer Space Marine 2).
@@CheeseOfMastersI don't think it will crash in the same sense as in 1984, but I do believe it will contract and be reorganized. @18:00 No, if anything games today hold the player's hand too god damn much. You're looking for loot or doing anything instead of the puzzle or going to a specific place? The player character or some NPC is going to nag you EVERY 10 SECONDS with hints or just tell you what to do. The original Pokemon games were perfectly fine, you were told about about type advantage through a prompt or by playing if you skipped it and really only had 1 way to go up until you mid game or so when it opens up a bit and by then you knew exactly what you where doing. Now, in the Eevee games, the game won't even let you do the first damn gym unless you have a specific Pokemon type even if you had another type that works just as well or if not better. In the Scarlet and Violet games before you can do a specific gym you have to find 10 Sunfloras in a town but half or more of them spawns directly in front of you out in the open not even remotely hidden. Either don't waste my time on a pre-gym minigame if you're just going to give them to me or actually hide them.
Old games didnt really need in game tutorials. Old games had bigger manuals. 2d pixled games have instructions that are simple enough to type out. Instructions in 3D space are generally more efficiently displayed in 3D space. Back then hardware was a factor in limiting all sorts of games whereas these days game design is so streamlined that devs can spend resources creating tutorials rooms without sacraficing elsewhere. An 8-bit game can only count to 256. So the tutorial would be in a manual to not use game recources/memory. And memory was expensive, you couldnt just add another kilobyte of storage.
I know it's not possible, but it would be funny to have highlighted lore for some old old memes like "leave me be" and "lu gism" and "aim striggly". I’ve been here since Day 1, and it’s been so long that I’ve forgotten the lore for this joke. P.S. Wolf, please reupload your videos on Alpha and Omega. It’s my birthday.
Around 50 minutes they get hung up on what he means by "simplicity". I can EASILY think of what he means, having gamed in the old days like what he's referring. If you bought Wasteland 2 Director's Cut at one point, it came bundled with the original version and the 1980s original Wasteland 1... but a little updated. A few years ago they released an even newer Wasteland Remastered. The original game has a clunky interface that uses hotkeys to navigate, and due its age, the UI is almost entirely text with a few images. The updated version has streamlining and added audio, because we're not running games on Apple II's and Commodore 64's. The Remastered version has even more streamlining and added graphics where they didn't exist in either the original or older updated versions of the game. The newer versions have more and more Quality of Life features that simply didn't exist back in the 80s and early 90s. Playing the older games without these "simplicities" (as he dubbed them) made for very tedious gaming. Like old DOS prompts vs newer Windows buttons and drop down menus, you needed to know a series of commands to meticulously input the get the outputs you wanted. But we all just knew these inputs by heart because it was what you HAD to do, so we memorized them out of such frequent repetition. Modern conveniences gave us macros, pop ups, context inputs, delayed commands, and TONS of automation, making the EXPERIENCE of playing games much mire simple. However, it goes without saying, the actual programming involved to provide these QOL features is anything but. As usual, this whole misunderstanding comes down to a poor choice of words, and EFAP getting hung up on the most basic, literal interpretation of those words. This is one of the reasons I stopped watching EFAP on the regular... they ere on the side against charitability too much for my tastes. It really wasn't hard to figure out what Tone was saying, and many other videos had this issue as well. He's still got plenty to criticize, but beyond a poor choice of words, they really blew this one out of proportion.
A lot of the EFAP reply videos have this issue. I like the discussion, and there are a lot of interesting viewpoints that come from the discussions, but the point they're arguing is often one of "I can imagine an exception to this general statement so it is a silly statement." Just look at the Final Fantasy GUI debate. Yes, 70% of that screen is GUI. But they were dealing with a lot of technical limitations. Such as only having 256x240 pixels, meaning they literally have less than 3% of the pixels to work with compared to a 1920x1080 game, and only having a few buttons. Not being able to dedicate a button to opening a menu means you need a menu selection option. Then that text needs to be readable. The GUI looks that way because of the technology it is running on. But if we look at what the GUI is actually showing you... Character name, HP, targeted enemy. That's very little information compared to the HUD in even Dark Souls, which was out for quite some yers before EFAP 21. Let alone Elden Ring if we're going to go more modern. A game with a GUI about which other game designers complained that it wasn't providing players enough information. But yeah, I watch EFAP for the points that get brought up. Not so much the opinions of the crew. Although I must admit they have gotten better at it.
@slaapt I suppose I'm out of the loop at how much better they have gotten. I mostly check out the videos on subjects I GOTTA hear. FOLA (I refuse to call that show "Fallout") was one of them. Arcane s2 was another, albeit for opposite reasons. Even when I agree with their assessments (Dark Souls 2, FOLA, etc), it impresses me how much they MISS as to why they're bang on the money. Thank God other users gave Mauler the context as to why FOLA was 100% non-canonical to _Fallout_ and he put that in his video. But without that, he'd have presented a strong case for why it's terrible, yet missed SO MUCH reason as to why. That was basically their EFAP coverage of the same subject: good points, but they were all, each and every one of them, absolutely oblivious as to the gargantuan depth of the iceberg they were glimpsing.
Bit of a nitpic but the busy bee winter is just him wording it too fast. I think he was trying to just say its a busy winter and busy bee is an old british saying because your as busy as a bee. Unless efap already knew this and were just mocking him making me look like a fucking tard then ok lol
Nah Terminator 2 is awesome but not better than the first. Terminator 2 is inherently flawed because it was established in the first movie that only 1 Terminator could be sent. Even if sending a second one was possible, the decision to send it when John is a teenager instead of when he was a child or before he was born doesn't make sense. Sending the T-1000 to back up the T-800 in taking out Sarah would obviously be more efficient. Or just send an army of T-1000s and don't even use the outdated T-800.
if i remember right the t1000 was an experimental prototype so likely the only one if not one of only very few. and at the time of the sending of the first terminator to 1984 the t800 was a new model. so i think the implication is that the war went on and some time later skynet sent another assassin when it had the resources to do so. clearly skynet and the machines werent eradicated if they continued developing additional terminators to the extent that a relatively new advancement had become obsolete.
Dude, you had one funny pirate joke at the beginning. You don't need to keep milking it and doing it literally the entire video. It got annoying after the first 5 minutes. Everyone else was annoyed too, but they didn't want to say it.
