I think I had a subconscious aversion to using Melodyne before these short videos due to my general incompetence with navigation etc. It's gone. I use it absolutely every day now. No hesitation. First choice rather than when nothing else can do it. Thx much.
You can quantize notes to the timing grid by double-clicking on them with the Timing tool in Melodyne assistant, editor or studio. In Melodyne essential, you would use the Timing macro (which, of course, also works in the other editions of Melodyne). Whatever you use, please note that what you are time aligning to the grid here is the first section of the blob that contains tonal or pitch information. For example, if the lyrics say "I see", you will have two blobs: The "I", which would have the vowel aligned with the grid. And the "see", which will also have the vowel (in this case it's the "ee") aligned with the grid, while the "s" remains in front of it, making it early in terms of timing. This is exactly what a singer would intuitively do when trying to sing this phrase on time. Of course, you could always separate the "s" from the "ee" (using the "S" key command as in "Separate") to end up with two blobs that you could then decide which one to align with the grid and which one to place before or after. Try this yourself. If you need further instructions, write to support@celemony.com. I will also be covering this topic at some point in this series of short videos. - Stefan
@@celemony Thank you for your response! I truly appreciate how your team actively engages with your client base-it’s a fantastic approach. I’m a proud owner of three studio versions of your software and absolutely love it! That said, I think I may not have fully articulated what I’d love to see in Melodyne’s future updates. Specifically, I envision an automatic vocal quantization feature, similar to your tuning automation tool, to quickly time-align vocals to the grid. A “snap-to-grid” functionality that recognizes vowels and pitch would be incredible. Additionally, I’d love to see you develop an enhanced version of the “Vocalign” plugin-perhaps one that focuses more on pitch alignment than just transients. I understand this might be a lot to ask, but it would be a game-changer for vocal production. Thank you again for considering these ideas!
@evenform Thank you very much for your kind response and valuable input. Your ideas are very welcome and considered over here. Let's see what we can come up with in the future ;-) - Stefan

With all due respect (love Melodyne and your tutorials), the noise compression in the audio is jarring!

Is there a way to snap vowel sounds to the grid ? That’s what I would love…
