    I haven't seen any kids play with Star wars toys, because they all play with their tablets or I phone's.

      That's not entirely true. I have a great story about my niece and nephew (who everyone complains about spending too much time on the phones and tablets their parents gave them) spending 3 straight days playing with a big doll playset my niece got for Christmas. Kids still play with toys in some capacity. It's just different to how we played with toys a quarter of a century ago.

      I have three kids. My oldest is 16 and my youngest is 9. From what I've seen over the last ten years things have changed. Kid's play with toys a lot less than they used to. The toy department in most stores was massive ten years ago. Now it's a shadow of what it used to be.

    @polarboy5862 6 месяцев назад +7

    Yes the bulk of toy sales are to children (7 and under) but only a tiny percentage of toys are action figures. Kids don't play with action figures any more. and that's why the vast bulk of action figures that do sell are old properties that sell to adults.

    • @erickiernan1578

      Kids still buy toys. I would say on average most kids stop playing with them at an earlier age but even that comes with caveats. Legos and Nerf guns are very popular. I have known kids that were still requesting them up to 13. I think one of the biggest problems action figures have was they were too large. A 10 year old can't do much with a 12-inch action figure it's too large to manipulate. It also then creates a space problem for storage.

    • @ScooterinAB
      @ScooterinAB 6 месяцев назад +3

      @@erickiernan1578 What they are saying is that kids as a whole don't play with action figures until they are 13 anymore. They have other things they do and are also incredibly busy because parents like to enroll their kids in 12 different sports and dozens of afterschool activities. The entire market surrounding childhood has changed over the last several decades. There are also far fewer kids to buy things like action figures.

    Even if The Dark Knight had been a little more child-appropriate, that is a very boring interpretation of the Batmobile.
    Good movie, but not a good toy design for a vehicle.

    Re: GL - Isn't the... lack of color... a big "toyetic" problem here? Everything's green. And not even a "cool" green; a dark emerald that is kind of an eyesore if it's only broken up by sparse blacks or skin tones? I also think you fundamentally got the GL ring mechanic wrong with the "origami"; not only did you break up the transparent green, but the gimmick is "I can make anything"... not "I can make 2 things." Hindsight is 20-20, but it strikes me that to solve the first problem you could have done what ML does and pad a movie line with non-movie villains. For the latter problem, I take it that you want to dive deep into transparent green accessories; you want to do a transparent race car or transparent mech for your "big ticket" items? Go for it. But simply having GL come with toyetic hardlight constructs like swords or mele weapons is easy enough; especially since you probably wouldn't need to tool much of anything.

    Using the Indiana Jones 6” line is a terrible example. The made 25 figures and that was all they were ever going to make. They said that from the very beginning. They sculpted a Mola Ram but he got banned.

    I can honestly say that toys of an upcoming movie release can dampen the expectations of that movie.
    A good example of this was 'Masters of the Universe'.
    Premium shelf-space was reserved for the then upcoming movie's Masters of the Universe movie-tie in action figures, while the main toyline was mostly removed and what remained was placed in a small section tucked away.
    This is how I found out that there was a movie being made for the franchise in the first place.
    I didn't care for what was being offered, and I was afraid that if the movie was successful, the quality of the action figures would have dipped going forward to match the style of the movie tie-ins.
    I can't say anyone else felt the same way as I did back then, but it definitely is a great example of how toys and the movie it's based on can undermine each other.

    So I understand betting on a movie that doesn't go well is a risk. Do they ever consider maybe the product's hot right now but not going to be in the future? The only example I can think of this is Teen Titans Go. There was a time when my little cousin was really mad for the show about one of us came out and it seemed to be on Cartoon Network almost constantly. Yeah I never saw any product for it minus a few shirts

    • @brettwood1351
      @brettwood1351 6 месяцев назад

      Teen Titans Go was cheap to produce and a network darling. Which fed into it doing well in ratings, because it was all CN ever ran, which meant of course it got the best ratings, so run it more... But there wasn't really much they could have done in the modern toy aisle for them. Any older fans would have turned away in disgust, and zany action feature toys aren't as much of a thing now.

      Anyone who had watched toy story would know the voice of Tim Allen was not used. I never watched the movie in protest, but did buy the boardgames and mini ships toys, for $5 at the dollar store. Captain America actor is a odd guy, and I don't like the theme of a super soldier made with drugs, the idea he could punch Ironman in his suit is laughable. Buzz lightyear lost his leader spaceman charm, saved by others in his own movie more then once, hiding from zerg and his robots. I would rather watch paint dry on customs made out of the toys

    Ok, I have a question in regards to the Kenner Star Wars series of the 70s and 80s. Characters like R2-D2 were way off when it comes to movie accuracy. I mean, R2's face looked nothing like the movie. However, it was re-tooled several times to add features. Why wasn't the face corrected when it was re-tooled? And one more question. As kids, we'd talk about how cool it would be to have a Darth Vader with a removable helmet. Heck, we'd talk about how cool it would be to get a new Darth Vader toy. Why couldn't Kenner be bother to re-freash some of the more popular characters such as Vader. By ROTJ, the sculp was pretty outdated.

    Toy companies have unfortunately had a case of what I call "the star wars syndrome"since 1978.that's where they have been pursuing nearly any movie or tv show for content trying to have a line which did as well as the first line of figures from that galaxy far far away.so many have tried and so many have ended up in the REDUCED FOR CLEARANCE aisle sometimes while the show is still playing.the company really to blame for this use of mining the entertainment world for toy ideas was Mego back in the seventies who did everything from PLANET OF THE APES to of all shows figures from THE WALTONS.some IPs worked out great but many did not.to me toy companies being so dependent on media instead of creating things in house is a waste.star wars was a unique once in a lifetime event which succeeded because at the time it came out there wasnt anything else like it on the market.that's why any product succeeds.

    Apologies if this may have been answered in the past. How long do Retailers keep unpopular toy lines on sale/clearance in stores before returning them? I guess it depends on the type of store, I would imagine a Supermarket would have a much faster turnaround than a Toy Store. As I was saying in a comment with another subscriber on this video, that at my local chain Toy Shop I often see toys from lines that were released over 2 years ago.

    Sad seeing Hasbro going under due to disney tanking all the boys toys franchises. Who would have thought a day would come where a new Star Wars movie came out at Christmas time but Hasbro wouldn't even bother making a toy line for it because they knew it would be pointless and wouldn't sell.

      Hasbro isn't going down because Disney is taking their properties. Hasbro is failing because of a series of incredibly poor decisions, like constantly pissing off their customers and getting involved in legal problems.

      @@ScooterinAB Star Wars merchandise sales have tanked since Disney took over. The third in the trilogy made half the amount Force Awakens did so they lost 50% of their audience over those three films. Viewership of their Disney + shows has been going downhill. I'm not sure what makes you think SW is as popular as it's ever been? Same has been happening with Marvel over the last five years. Merch sales have tanked. Movies are getting far less positive reaction. Disney+ shows getting less and less viewers.

    Green lantern was one of the first movies to have woke parts, his girlfriend should have been taken out movie. The green lantern toys looked good but where dirt compared to Marvel universe action figures articulation. No one cared about the green constructs that caused the figure to fall over, the head could not look up and no elbow movement or knee movement, green lantern figures where a down grade in the use and play of the action figure. The 3.75 inch line for batman was horrible, Purple batmobile?, no elbow articulation, it was Batman Returns articulation level of toys, compared to Marvel universe spiderman and Ironman. My larger 5" joker grew something on the plastic, my first ever figure to do so. Didn't even look like the joker from the movie, looked like a joker henchmen. I could have told you what was going to be a hit, but no one asked me. 😢 I can't even display my best green lantern figure on my desk, because the green translucent version falls over, all have a warped right leg with all 3 I bought, lesser quality then final faction figures from dollartree. Hasbro is finally getting the hint with xmen'97 figures, the retro line was junk, I only got two of those for the card art at a dollarstore for $5. Sorry to burst your bubble. I also don't like lego figures, some of the sets are ok, but I have to upscale for Mega Construx figures size. Your intro would be better with a Mega Construx custom of yourself with Call of duty figures, the chair you use is too big for a lego figure. I can't deny Lego's brand reach but lego is for kids who haven't seen Mega Construx yet. Like you have said it's about the market, the Halo TV show bombed, because the Helmet was removed. Finally Halo games move to unreal engine. A statue needs to not fall over and a action figure needs to move. I seek your kind of collaboration work, with my 200 year lithium battery technology, a customer's toy diorama will safely and 100% cleanly be a renewable portable power source. Plastic building blocks will be getting high tech really fast, and with new AI video generation, Toy story animation with every RUclips toy review, get your lego custom guy to read a book or jump out of the chair, like the Simpsons, the intro in different every show. Mattel board know of me, I can pressure a toy company to change from the outside.
