Well in this case it/he did start a war and everything - but you're right, most of the logs we hear aren't "I found paradise!" are they? Thanks for the sub, glad you're enjoying the content!
The happy stories don't leave logs in remote parts of space. All the dead generation ships have depressing logs, but I'll bet you a whole bunch got where they were going and just got dismantled, so you don't hear the happy mundane stories of life in a crowded generation ship, although it would be cool if there was one as a museum piece somewhere with happy stuff.
This may not be correct but I read somewhere that in the 3100's just after the reckless commanders destroyed a thargoid fleet (including a mothership) they were interdicted by a fleet of 30 motherships. I'm convinced that those thargoid sites are actually either dead, injured, or repairing motherships.
Many of us think that's the case and that one day, we hope, they will be confirmed to either still be active or we'll see some kind of hiveship in the game. We know it exists, Jameson just confirmed it for us.
Well God, that was depressing. I'll still visit his ship to pay my respects. On a side note, I wish the cobra ingame were a cobra VIII or IX because boy Jameson's cobra truly looks older and retro. I honestly wouldn't mind them including that ship model as an older retro ship. Still wish our combat missions felt as immersive as that sounded, at least change the lights on launch from the station, maybe have some radio chatter in combat. I usually just play random radio chatter over my game when in combat to make it feel real. Ace Combat does this, why can't Elite? Make the messages on long just radio broadcasts. That would add so much depth it'd be crazy!
"Still wish our combat missions felt as immersive as that sounded" They you might want to try Frontier: First Encounters. There are some modernized versions around. That had a similar(but not the same) Thargoid mission.
Someone told me to visit the crash site when I first started playing last July. I downloaded the logs by mistake, I had meant to scan the comm panel. But wow! I did not expect that. That was very emotional to listen to. Elite had a great lore. So much, that you can’t possibly uncover it all. The Dark Wheel, Raxxla, CMDR Jameson, the Thargoids, the Guardians, and so on. I’m slowly working on becoming allied with The Dark Wheel. I’ve come across a couple of stations where they have a presence.
Thanks, it was fun as a diversion to my normal, boring ass tutorial content ;-) Have some more of that planned soon, one I'm really looking forward to - 10 places you must visit in Elite...
I thought the voice acting was alright, its the story that's cliche. I'm not going to argue with 1984 BBC Micro canon though. I'm in the middle of engineering a Corvette so I might head out to pay my respects and pick up some data while I'm there. Thanks for sharing OP.
I'll take that as a huge compliment as Ant is clearly the leader in the Elite creator community. Nothing wrong with personal preference, I absolutely enjoy his content and damn does he have a voice of gold that I'll just never match.
Mabye he has golden voice but you shine in places he might not :) Seriously you are good channel i am happy ive found you, then i have doble the content for elite video's to watch from obsidian ant and you :D
Again thanks very much, I consider it a huge compliment to even be compared to Ant. He's also such a super great guy - I hope you can join our weekly live stream together every Friday at 1 EST (with Yamiks, Paroxsym, Plater, etc as well)
Yep, many of us have speculated that the "bases" are in fact the hive ships and agree - it would be amazing to see them actually take off from the surface.
I do have one question for you, if I may. Is there a way of plotting exact locations on planetary surfaces, e.g. crash sites, prior to arrival, or do you have no choice but to rely on the grid co-ordinates displayed on your HUD?
Nope, that technology was clearly outlawed given we have it in 2018 - but if the location has a data beacon (or a ship data cache) once you scan that it will show up in your nav computer. So you only have to do it manually once.
@@Exigeous What does this mean? I flew to this planet, scanned it with a Detailed Surface Scanner, targeted the crash site and flew down to it? What are grid coordinates?
CMDR Exigeous what about that one system? COL 70 SECTOR FY-N C21-3. ? Wasn't it deciphered from the thargoid star chart and thargoid probe that pointed to that system?
CMDR Exigeous not confirmed, but I believe frontier did make a mention of this players findings at merope. But here's the link from what I had read www.reddit.com/r/Canonn/comments/4yn18w/col_70_sector_fyn_c213/
Seems crazy you cant type in the coordinance in your ship to go to this spot....this is something they should implement, it's painful trying to fly to these locations....and yes im new to the game.
We've basically begged for that for years - it really is absurd isn't it? Apparently that tech was banned in the next 1200 years since we have that today and all....
Not undermining what you said, but: Go to the galaxy map, fly to the system. 300lY from the bubble, not too far out. Go to moon 1b. Detailed surface scan it and look for the non-geological signal. Then you have him straight in your crosshairs.
im trying to play ED again.jeez i whish there was more stuff like that to find.anyway how people fidnd those things? you get some readings from your scanner or somethings?
there's a looot of audioLogs already found in the game, and a bunch more waiting for someone to find them. you can find all that stuff and locations online ;)
Yeah, as Bazzuk says there really are a lot of these kind of logs/lore in Elite. As for finding them it's rather difficult - you drop from supercruise into glide at a very shallow angle, like 5%. Then you glide for as long a distance as you can, looking for a single pixel on your scanner to denote a POI below you. Then dive down to it and see what it is. Insane, right??
I love all the lore and little details in elite dangerous but the whole Jameson thing about inra not telling him the mycroid virus (idk if I'm spelling any of this right) would actually target the thargoids themselves and not just their tech to me is so dumb. I mean is he really going to sympathize with the alien race who was trying to take human civilization out and act so shocked about inra and their true intentions? C'mon lol. It's a shame that they killed the commander and tried to cover it all up so shame in inra for that but they should have just told the truth from the begining about the virus and found a pilot who was willing to actually fight back! Destroying all thargoid tech would actually probably just piss them off even more lol.
Sorry man wasnt trying to be a jerk. I just wanted to post the EXACT co-ordinates. I went to -54.3000 x -50.3000 and had to do some running around to find it. There were several "outcrops" that kept popping up on the scanner and making things a little confusing.
Oh no worries, I was just being cheeky myself. As for the exact coordinates you didn't see the big area from the air as you approached? Not sure how you'd miss it, when looking for something like this make sure you're several KM high so you can see at distance.
It was really dark when I flew down there. It seemed to be kind of hazy too. There were 3 red circles I could see on scanner but couldnt see much of anything on the surface. I had parked my SRV and was using the camera to look around when i noticed the faint blinking red light from the com stations. Pro tip for anyone else looking: go down there when that side of the planet is in the sunlight :D
While the video is excellent as usual and I normally love this kind of stuff, I don’t think Frontier did such a good job with these audio logs this time. Cmdr Jameson comes across as a totally naive rookie, not a seasoned veteran or a „one in a generation“-type superhero.
now gathering materials from his crash site will not be the same again. There should be a "Pay Respect" option. Not the F key, god forbid. But you buy and item and place it there for his honor.

CMDR Exigeous It was found by me 😀 you can read the wiki as suggested, frontier forums (stickied INRA base discoveries thread in Aliens subforum page 1), also on reddit, laveradio and such.
