    Before they could even dream of lifting the trophy, South Africa found themselves faced with a very tough Wales team in perhaps the highest game of the tournament. So how did the Boks see it through, and what did an outmuscled Welsh team do to keep it so tight in the first place?

      @robertporter4501 4 года назад

      It is masterclass. The scoreline did not reflect the Bok's dominance. Further, the second penalty to Wales that gave it 3 points was from a poor ref decision. The Welsh player ran into Vermeulen and was forcefully pushed away. What was Vermeulen supposed to do? Hug and kill him? Silly penalty! Then at the end Pollard chose to end the game by kicking out instead of taking a fairly easy kick for 3 points. Hats off to Wales for a gutsy effort, but the game was less close than the scoreline indicates.

    Mr Squige
    I like your analysis always - so good. Especially among the northern hemisphere chaps who usually try to down play SA and AUS a bit. Especially before that final. The embarrassed themselves with their emotional and biased heavy breathing commentary over ENG...disgusting - very un-rugby.
    I will however say as a South African and a lifelong Wales fan (absolute favourite northern hemisphere (NH) team) your disclaimer at the start is valid. In my opinion as brilliant as your analysis is (as always). It does however weigh/favour Wales. Though not as bloviating as most NH pundits (because your brilliant) it does betray itself.
    Especially when your consider the two main pivot points of the argument:
    Wales = tired
    Wales = Out thought the boks
    I could say a lot on this however I would need my own YT channel for that and that would be unnecessary as we already have your great channel suffice to say.
    1. If indeed SA never hid how they were going to play. Add to that the obvious 6/2 split. Why did the great (not ironic - actually mean that) Mr Gatland not see that coming and work a way around it.
    2. Wales did create those over laps, true. As did everyone however they did not out think the boks because that defensive style does force the side creating overlaps to either pass forward or get intercepted which were the options that were quiet visible on my viewing of the game and your analysis.
    I could go on however I will not because this is already the longest thing I have ever written online.
    You lost me at they were tired - sloppy with a hint of bias.
    Do love your channel though - I also never had any doubts SA would beat ENG in final - only worried about Wales, NZ and even JP because homeground pride and how well they were playing.
    Thank you

    I think it was a combination of factors. losing the attack coach just as the tournament began, losing Josh Navidi and Liam Williams and Talaupe Faletau was a defence nightmare and George North during the match shows that Wales still don't have the depth of squad of other nations. However it was probably poor refereeing that tipped the balance against Wales in the end. I'm not claiming that Wales played particularly well but in a tight match the refereeing should be accurate and consistent. The in air tackle on Moriarty warranted a card or penalty at least and the final penalty against Rhys Carre for going off his feet was just cockeyed, as he tripped over a South African player on the wrong side of the maul, so surely it should have been a penalty to Wales, all the referee had to do was consult the TMO. Now before anyone claims it's all sour grapes, well done to the Boks, I'm not sure Wales could have beaten England in the final, although with the brain fart performance they put in, anything would have been possible. I did enjoy the tournament but some of the refereeing left me bewildered and can't help but feel a bit cheated that once again we felt the wrong side of the whistle. I feel desperately sorry for England having played a blinder against the All Blacks only to choke in the final but still don't understand why they removed their medals before leaving the podium, very bad sportsmanship.

    • @doppies2001
      @doppies2001 3 года назад +2

      actually it is Sour Grapes.
      by your "Analysis" of the Refereeing being against Wales how about you look again at the Scrum that led to the Wales Try.
      clearly a Penalty for South Africa !
      so, their goes your Theory.
      it was an immense Arm-wrestle.
      unfortunately there could only have been one Winner...

    I am an American who is relatively new to Professional Rugby, but I loved this game!! No, I don't understand all of the nuances of the game, but I know strategy when I see it. I won't lie, I was rooting for RSA because I had noticed Faf De Klerk a few years ago while watching games from the Southern Hemisphere. He reminds me a lot of my brother in his look and stature, but his tenacity is unrivaled. I became an instant fan of his. There is an up and coming American Rugby League, but it's only a couple of years old, and no team is near me. That said, I enjoy watching the games without having a specific team to root for. There are certain players that catch my eye, particularly during the Six Nations tournament.
    Rugby is such an exciting sport, and light years better than American football.
    But anyway, this was a great game for a neutral fan to watch, and learn some of the intricacies used by the players.

    One thing you mentioned that I'd like to highlight. The freshness of the Springbock players. All the subs Rassie made were DELIBERATE. and the mission was simple. KEEP THE BOYS FIT.

      I'd think twice before just making a wild-card statement calling England the "better team" who "deserved to win". The fact is, they were comprehensively outplayed by the Springboks, in every facet of the game.
      In fact, I heard an amazing stat: in that game, England made the second lowest meters gained of any team ever in any match ever in the history of the Rugby World Cup.
      If you were to pick a combined 15, or even a combined 23, from those in the final, you'd not have too many English players in that lineup. That doesn't really look too good against your claim of "better team", does it?

      arronison your tone is extremely petulant, just like the crap team you support. Yes, I said "crap team". Because guess what, they were truly awful. I have seen rabbits in a car's headlight beam that looked more competent. A team is only as good as the last match they played, and boy were England crap in that last game.But that is secondary to their piss-poor attitude when it came to medal time. Much, much better teams than England have lost the final but still managed to accept defeat with dignity. It is the thing that sets this sport apart from that game played by over-paid prima-donnas kicking a round ball. Your piss-poor attitude makes me think you are one them. Probably best to leave rugby to real sportsmen and go and cry into your loser's beer somewhere else.
