I appreciated showcasing the minimum focus distance. That is something that is often overlooked in reviews.

The 10-18 is not bad of a lens takes some nice landscape photos on the r7

Good review. I just purchased one and I’m very pleased with it. Never had the kit lens though. If you have the choice, I think it’s best to skip the kit lens all together and purchase the body and lens separately. It’s a much more usable range. Consumers kinda get sucked into the zoom features (i.e., kind of a gimmick) but I think the wider the better. It tells a better picture (no pun intended) of what you’re taking either in video or photography. I also think the 16mm 2.8 is a good choice, but if you want the versatility and don’t mind the very small drop in performance on an R7 then this new lens is a good compromise for both video and photos.

The 16mm 2.8 is a good option for wide angle. Canon really created a quagmire here. Ideally one would want both the RF 10-18 and the RF 16. Though both being wide, they have separate uses due to the aperture differences. The 16 is likely nice in low light and outdoor night shooting. The 10-18 Im assuming would struggle some in that scenario, but provide greater versatility for wide angle daytime shooting. Canon really grasps you by the short hairs here and gives a strong yank, knowing their customers would love both of these in their lens collection. They might have been able to do the 10-18 at 2.8 at a reasonable price but that’s not how you increase profits.

How do I tell what size ND filter I need for the 10-18 ?

The 10-18mm takes a 49mm filter, usually there’s a number on the front of the lens that tells the filter size :)

Does the 10-18mm will crop on the canon r50 or you’ll get the 10-18mm? I’m planning to buy it soon but I don’t want the 1.6 !

Hey Adam! Which of these would be better for at home RUclips videos, mostly floating head style. Thanks!

Yo Adam! How big of difference is a selfie shot?! I'm holding the camera and filming myself. How much more background do you get with the 10-18?! Thanks!!

Upgrade? Going from a banana to a cauliflower is not an upgrade. It is just a change. An ultra wide lens is completely different to a wide to normal angle of view lens.
