🎣 Welcome to Moonlight Fly Fishing! I'm Brandon Moon, and tonight, we're tying the Chaos Hopper. Created by Roman Nyman from Blue Ribbon Flies in West Yellowstone, this pattern is hailed by Craig Matthews as one of the best hopper patterns for the Yellowstone area. 🏞️
Materials Needed:
. Hook: Size 12 Moonlit Premium Toata ML12
. Thread: Seer Fly's Classic Wax 12O, Floral Yellow 🧵
. Foam: 2mm 🟨
. Wing: Brook Hog Wing
. Legs: Semper Fly's Silly Legs, Chartreuse and Bar Silver 🦵
. Super Glue: Loctite with Brush Applicator 🧴
Steps:
. Start thread behind the hook eye, wrap to the hook point, and back.
. Trim 2mm foam, punch a hole, and slide it over the hook.
. Secure foam with wraps and super glue.
. Attach Brook Hog Wing, fold it back for durability.
. Pull foam through the hook eye, secure, and trim.
. Add legs, secure with wraps, and trim to desired length.
. Attach and trim a foam indicator for visibility.
. Finish with a whip finish and clean up any excess material.

thank you for updating a tying video for the Chaos Hopper. Great job tying and explaining. I have used this hopper pattern extensively on small streams. I do have problems with the foam twisting on the hook so I have resorted to adding superglue to the finished fly along the hook under the foam. Also in the original tying videos, (10-12 years ago), it was reported that pink foam was very effective. I have found that though pink does not seem very "natural", it is very effective color for small hoppers?!

I worked in ynp for 8yrs fished everyday, at parks fly shop the pink in that fly was and is deadly
I haven’t tried Pink, but o know it is an effective color for the hopper patterns. I bet that was a fun 8 years.
It was unreal, lived in Gardiner mt, best ever till centennial happened they showed me places untouched, I tied all their flies and they just kept talking lok@@MoonlitFlyFishing
