If nothing else, you have some time in a beautiful setting. Half is going and the other half is catching, either way, you are a winner just for being there.
Even though we have few hogs here in Oregon, I would like to see a trapping video where we are able to see a trapped hog. Thanks for your consideration.
Yooper Digger57 No problem - hogs will dig and dig to get sour corn. I need to carry in some post hole diggers and make a deep, narrow hole and pout the bait in, then bed the trap over it. My hole in this set was too wide. Next time it will be narrower.
Todd Wittenmyer I hope so - this property is a long way from my house, so I'm basically limited to weekend trips. I'm pretty sure once the hogs find the bait - I'll be in business. Stay tuned.
Endurance channel Yes - that is true. You can add beer - the yeast helps speed the souring, which is just fermentation. Just think of making sour mash. I have a video I'm about to release on making sour corn. I take a bucket and fill it half full of corn, add some yeast and some sugar, fill it with water and let it sit in the sun for about two weeks. When it stinks so bad you can smell it upwind - then it's ready.
I'm only assuming but I'm guessing you probably didn't catch a hog I bought one of these traps and quickly realized that you cannot camouflage it with dirt or anything that will fall down inside of the pan it will slow the trap down too where it will not throw the cable. I figured out how to make it work properly under natural camouflage
Hi. i enjoyed your videos on the #220 JP modified conibear throwing a snare on a hog's foot. You speak so highly of the concept that I wonder what your catch rate is by now?
I really hope you get one, pretty cool stuff! It seem like you would catch them by the face, my pigs have there head in the dirt 90+% of the time. Maybe wild one are different, but either way best of luck!
backyardmeat Yep - either way you have them. If you can get them to dig - you'll get them by the front feet and if they root with their head the trap will throw the snare up on their head.
Hi. In response to one comment below you report on the efficacy of the Fremont foot snare. What kind of set do you use? Maybe you could make a video on this. So far, I have had ~90% misses with both, Fremont and Hold-a-Hawg. I'm very frustrated about that as no set I've tried with those devices reliably catch. What works best for me so far is the #9 Bridger Brawn in a post set.
+SHGYJ That #9 Bridger is a beast of a trap - never used one. A little rich for my blood given how little I get to trap hogs. As far as the Fremont, the best luck I had was a blind trail set in thick cover near wallows. In a trail through heavy cover, I put two crossover sticks to make a vertical 'X' in trail to make them step over into the set. I also use a piece of hardware cloth as a pan cover. For an illustration of the crossover sticks take a look at the Bear Pen set illustrated here: www.wildlifecontrolsupplies.com/pdf/Fremont%20Bear%20Foot%20Snare.pdf. It will be February before I can do more with the hogs. The two properties I have permission to trap them on are two hours away and I have to wait till deer season is over. Hope this helps. Good luck and keep us posted.
Very similar to bear set up here in Maine. we use leg hold cable snare. what do you mean by sour corn? How do you make it. Any reason you poured so much in hole and not spread some around?
+Jeffrey Berry When we want to attract hogs, we mix corn, water and sugar and let it ferment in the sun. It puts out a lot more scent that way. By pouring in a single hole, it forces the hogs to work a single spot repeatedly rather than wandering around over a wider area. The idea is that if they work a single spot your chance of a catch goes up.
Howdy, When it comes to hogs, the most important thing is to open and gut the animal as quickly as possible. get the animal open and try to cool them down ASAP. Their hide is very thick so they stay hot longer than a think skinned animal like deer. Next is simple cleanliness when butchering. Keep the hair, urine, etc off the meat. I never found that old boars tasted bad because they were boars - just that they were harder to clean (leading to mistakes and contamination) and being heavy, it took longer to get them to a processor, so they tended to go off flavor faster. Hope this helps and good luck!
You definitely have some cool stuff going on down here that we don't have in the north. I can't imagine trapping hogs. What do you have for a trail cam? It appears to take good night footage.
thebossoftheswamp It's an old Tasco. What's amazing is that I lost it on a flood last year. Was set on a beaver dam and got washed downstream about 50 yards. The camera survived and after being dried out - it still works. I need to get me a new fancy black light model. Of course, there's lot of things I "need" to get :)
+Timothy Deisler You can order them directly from Mr. John Pray. Email him at southaddison@gmail.com. Tell him MeatTrapper sent ya - he'll fix ya right up!
Hello,I’m Nabin from India I watch your video a lot, so I have a lot of heart in it. You can arrange for me to arrange Mini Pro Lock and Recoil Spring please please please Answer me
The Wooded Beardsman Yes. I will be going to Mississippi this week to hunt them. If you look at the Meattrapper Facebook page you will see what a snared hog did to a 1,000 pound breaking strength snare cable. I spent 3 years as a hunting guide in South Carolina at a hog Plantation. I've probably killed about a hundred hogs to date. My newest track of learning is foot snaring hogs. I am still learning.
The Meat Trapper Thanks, I'll look it up. No doubt about their power. That's what I've wondered about deer. Our deer can weight up to 300 lbs or more on the hoof for a mature buck. They tear the crap put of a snare and anything it was tied to.
That's really cool stuff. I can't wait to see you snag about a 200 pounder. Question is how are you gonna drag it out when you do? Once again I really enjoyed your video. Thank you.
Michael Luck I'm too old to drag hogs out of the swamp. I just do the gutless method and butcher them where they lay. I do most of my deer the same way unless they are close to where I can get a vehicle in. One tip from my days as a professional guide - when a client shot a hog deep in the woods, I would drag the hog to the nearest creek and float them downstream to where a bridge or a road was close by, then I'd drive and load them up. Walking in the creek and floating them is a lot easier than dragging!
I do not own, and have never used a HoldaHawg. Since the video is 2 years old, Dakota Line may have updated the link. Thats one of the issues with posting a link. The video will be here 5 years from the time you post the video. In that time, the link can change, go dead or change. I did a search and this looks like a good link: www.ebay.com/itm/220-Hog-Foot-Snare-Hog-Trap-Handmade/142532226156?hash=item212f952c6c:g:7E8AAOSwEeFVLp7- Let me know if this doesn't work for you. Thank you for watching.
I was born in mobile and dauphin island is my favorite place as well I feel at ease there we should get together one day and go reek havoc on these pigs in the tensaw river wma and perdido river wma if your ever around they are getting bad
+Robert Leatherwood Sounds good. Last time I kayaked out to Mound Island in the Tensaw Delta I ran into hogs at the Indian Mounds. Love that area. I'm the only trapper in Alabama with a permit for the Demopolis WMA - I need to see if I can get one for the Tensaw. Have a good evening !
it doesn't matter, I use this bait technique a lot. the only difference is I pour a can of the cheapest beer I can find on the corn. cover it with dirt and in a few days they will come.
If nothing else, you have some time in a beautiful setting. Half is going and the other half is catching, either way, you are a winner just for being there.
Wow. Easter here in Northeast, still have snow on the ground! Great vid as always.
2bonosc Thanks buddy - hope it clears soon up your way.
a great setup hope you get him next time.man you got some nice forest down your way
Wallace Vivian Thanks buddy - I'll nail one sooner or later! Hope you and yours are doing good up there!
everything is good spring is coming around, still gets a bit cold in the nighs
Even though we have few hogs here in Oregon, I would like to see a trapping video where we are able to see a trapped hog. Thanks for your consideration.
Nice set my friend were getting a few hogs up here now I've seen there sign but not them going to have to try that set thanks for sharing

Good looking set, (even though I know nothing about hog trapping), I do know a good set when I see one! You'll get 'em next time Tim!
Todd Wittenmyer I hope so - this property is a long way from my house, so I'm basically limited to weekend trips. I'm pretty sure once the hogs find the bait - I'll be in business. Stay tuned.

Larry342516 Thank you sir - I'll keep everyone posted.
right on meat trapper, you'll hook one next time....
Got some good hog night vision footage coming out in a few weeks so stay tuned.

Do you sell the traps or know where to buy them?
Hi. i enjoyed your videos on the #220 JP modified conibear throwing a snare on a hog's foot. You speak so highly of the concept that I wonder what your catch rate is by now?
Hopefully I'll be back in hog country in a few weeks. I've been busy with beavers so far. I'll be sure to post an update.

The link you have goes to snare traps that say for "racoons to coyotes". Are they strong enough for a hog?

Trapper when you kill a board in field do you cut him to prevent boar taint immediately after killing him. Thank you!

Is there a video of a successful catch with this trap?

How do I order more of the spring snares. I can only get one use out of a snare.
+Timothy Deisler You can order them directly from Mr. John Pray. Email him at southaddison@gmail.com. Tell him MeatTrapper sent ya - he'll fix ya right up!
Have you successfully used this to trap hogs?

Did you ever get any activity around your bait?
+James Reynolds Yes, the hogs eventually found it and tore the place up - but I had to pull my trap before they came back.
I would trap around there wallowing holes and just spread the corn out where they could see it
The foot snare you are showing doesn't match the one linked to this video. It DOES resemble the HoldAHawg snare.
I do not own, and have never used a HoldaHawg. Since the video is 2 years old, Dakota Line may have updated the link. Thats one of the issues with posting a link. Link works--kinda pricey, though...
where bouts you hunting in alabama I live in escambia county just north of the Baldwin county line
I'm in Hoover up in Shelbyville County. Grew up in Mobile. Love to hangout on Dauphin Island.

you must not cover the bait(corn). Hog will comes of its smell.

all this land you trap on, is it blm or state land ?
Mostly State land, with a lot of private land with permission
