  • I needed to create my own bullnose molding for the laminate floor installed because they did not offer a piece that worked for my application. All you need is a piece of the flooring, the bullnose piece that is offered for your laminate floor, glue and brad nails. A table saw is recommended to make the cuts. You just cut 2 opposite 45 degree angles to make a 90 degree when glued together. You will need to clamp those 2 pieces together and allow time to dry. I used tight bond 2. Take the finished piece and glue/nail that up to the subflooring butt it up to the first step. Install the bullnose piece overlapping that top edge and your floor. Done!

How did the 45 degree cuts hold up? I want to do something similar but for the top side. Meaning, no bullnose just a 90 degree angle from the tread to the riser.

Perfect! Still the same as it was when I installed it.

What type of laminate did you use for the floor? I have never seen laminate floor with a flush stair nose like that.

Sorry for the delay. I have traffic master. I believe it's called lakeshore pecan. It was from home depot. I had to create my own bullnose transition using what was available. The flooring is a thin laminate with no barrier attached. I used a matching reducer transition and some of the actual flooring to create this bullnose. I hope this helps. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Are you able to tuck in the carpet right under the stair nose?

The way this was designed i think I went all the way back to the riser on the stairs but you could leave a gap to tuck carpet behind it. My carpet (not the carpet in the pic) goes all the way up to it and hides the transition between the 2 just fine.

I wouldn't worry about someone sliding off Id be more concerned about tripping over the lip coming down the stairs

So far nobody has tripped over it all all. My steps are a little more steep than most and people have slipped on those with carpet. And the wife wanted to do laminate on the steps lol. Hell no!
