I mean for me, the ride was awesome because of its theme. The abandoned hotel, the stoic and emotionless employees, that awesome video you would watch in the tiny library room, how amazingly decorated everything was, the wave goodbye, and then the real fun began. It was a cool experience as a kid to be scared and thrilled at the same time.
One of my favorite childhood memories was driving to Disneyland, arriving at nighttime and passing the purple glow of the TOT while we made our way to our hotel. It was always so ominous and foreboding; that ride always gave me such adrenaline and the atmosphere was incredible. I don't think I'll ever get over it changing into GOG - even the building is ugly... Just super obnoxious and hulking. :-(
Sophie Mia i remember going here a few years ago a few times and every time we would always point out TOT and i think tot for me was a huge part of disneyland
Sophie Mia I remember as a child feeling/doing the exact same thing arriving to the park at night and seeing the purple lights. I remember even just staring up at the tower gave adrenaline and nostalgia -even my first time being there! Rip DCA tower of terror...I’ll never forget the way Disneylands California adventure made me feel, i May never feel that way again due to them changing all of the classic DCA rides but I’m glad it will forever be apart of my childhood Disneyland experience...gone but never forgotten❤️
The tower of terror was one of my favorite rides there, it was heartbreaking literally for me when it closed, I love the twilight zone and the fact that it was a spookier theme was up my alley so I loved it automatically, the drops were fun it wasn't made to make me feel comfortable but uncomfortable the random times was the best thing ever so I could not predict it
Fun fact for anybody who rides Mission Breakout: when you’re escorted into the Collector’s office, pay attention to everything kept within the shelves, as they are all mostly old decor and pieces from Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. You can see the Indian elephants, some of the old books (whose bindings feature the names of the imagineers who built the original ride), and a bellhop’s hat in the back shelf. On another note, Harold, the old snow monster animatronic from the Matterhorn, is kept in the queue where the boiler room was, though he’s a far easier trivia piece to spot. I highly encourage all of you to look through the ride and see how many pieces you can find, because there’s a lot more than you’d expect.
As much as I love Disney, this is one thing I can honestly say was a massive mistake. The Tower of Terror was a perfect edition to DCAs new " Old Hollywood" redesign. Playing on the image of CA when Walt Disney first came here. Hollywoodland, the red cars, etc. It was perfect. Evan Paradise Pier fit in perfectly to 1920s California. But now even thats going away, making way for the new Pixar Pier. In other words, I find it really odd that DCA is going through yet another redesign (pixar pier, etc) when they just revamped everything to look like CA in the 1920s-1930s.
This video just made me sad.... Really sucks that such iconic ride theming was replaced with something like this. The Tower Of Terror's are my favorite Disney rides and seeing one go is just... Let's just pray that the other ones won't be rethemed (Paris & Orlando, and then ESPECIALLY Orlando)
YoungCoasterFan Don't worry. Florida's Tower of Terror will thankfully prevail. Speaking of which, I've read somewhere that a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction will replace Ellen's Energy Adventure at Epcot, which was an attraction that apparently not a lot of people cared for. I figured that might've been a response to the vitriolic backlash against a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction replacing the California Tower of Terror, so the backlash against a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction replacing Ellen's Energy Adventure would probably be more downplayed in this case.
Paris's Tower is exactly the same as the California one but with French narration. I'm glad they are replacing a weird ride no one knows about instead in Florida.
YoungCoasterFan I don't know, Guardians is kind of better in my opinion. Not better than the Florida version mind you, but I think the more fun type of vibe is, well, more fun. On a technical level the ride was improved with a more engaging queue, actual animatronics, randomized drop sequences, and a halloween overlay to top it off. You might prefer what's spooky (though the Halloween overlay of Guardians sort of checks that box), but in my opinion nothing beats a straight up good time.
The Paris Tower unfortunately now in imminent danger as well to the same fate as the one in California. It does gets a little complicated in Orlando due to the design's differences.
So just to note, the Generator Scene is the old "Wave Goodbye" scene, and is a real set for 90% of it. The Wave Goodbye floor had A LOT more room than people realized on it. The "action scenes" are where the hallway scene used to be.
I think it's actually flipped, The hallway went back quite a bit, enough to fit the generator set with the screen showing the generator at the very end of the hall.
I avoid CA adventures usually, and I was sad about it becoming soarin around the world. But I do think incredicoaster is fun and cute, guardians was WAY better than I had expected (and for now, thankfully, WDW has tower of terror!), and the Ariel ride is cute too.
I thought they were turning the Hollywoodland portion of DCA into a Marvel Land. They have the GoG ride and Marvel superhero meet and greets in that area already. All they would have to do is retheme the gift shops, maybe add in another Marvel ride.
Natalie Moore Yeah, they're adding Avengers and Spider-Man attractions. Plus, the whole Pixar Pier thing means that the California theming will be virtually nonexistent.
Bryce Bitetti Well I will miss the California theme tbh But, what I don't like about this is how will the park's overall theme be based on. Seeing as it's only a mix of mostly Disney themed, Pixar themed, and Marvel themed attractions, I have no idea how the attractions would have in common. So it feels like it's now only Disneyland 2 and that it feels like an extension of Disneyland rather than a park that really stands out from Disneyland
I really think they made a mistake with this one. I fear that Guardians of the Galaxy won't have the longevity that The Twilight Zone had since it's basically timeless. I have the creeping suspicion that this might be the beginning of the end when the licence has gone out of style, which it might already have...
keniakittykat You got it. Haunted Mansion and Tower of Terror got it right in the first place... Both had a timeless quality that Guardians of the Galaxy theme lacks... Probably will have to retool it again in 15 years.
If it even lasts that long to begin with. And whenever Disney retools a ride it's usually for the worse. A few other notable examples are: Mission to mars -> Alien extraterrorestrial -> Stitch's great escape Submarine voyage-> Finding Nemo submarine voyage Maelstorm-> Frozen ever after (The only exception to this trend, as far as I know, is Superstar Limo. But that one was dead on arrival, so any change would have been better.) I only hope that they treat the ride with more care and respect if they do update it.
I'm sure the ride will be rehashed again. But apparently the marketing team at Disney thinks that this theme will rake in the money even though the first film that made it popular was only released in 2014. If the next sequel tanks what will happen then?
As a long time Marvel fan (before disney got ahold of them) I have to affirm that no, I do not see the Guardians of the Galaxy having any hard hitting staying power. It upsets me that they lumped them in against Thanos in Marvel's greatest comicbook arc in history: The Infinity Guantlet. Guardians is trash TV.
Agreed. Guardians is the Forrest Gump of Marvel: it relies on being a giant nostalgia circle jerk instead of it's quality. A lot of people I know, me included, thought it was mediocre. Take away the 8 tracks and rock music, and you don't have much left...
wonderful video. I was never a fan of Tower of Terror, but it had an awesome look, great theming, and it fit really well with the area. I loved the way the tower looked with the Red Car passing in front of it. Even when I was in the area it was great to listen to the 20's era music in the area. I prefer the Tower of Terror to Guardians. Worst of all, you have always been able to see the tower from all over the resort, but let me say it looked better before from Disneyland, than it does now from Disneyland.
Yes! I completely agree. TOT did such a great job with blending into the other nearby hotels, but it stood out because of its creepy vibe. I even think it looks better than the one in Florida. It fit perfectly with the Hollywood theme and the park itself. I actually enjoyed TOT because it was so eerie. No other ride has ever made me feel like that. Now, having this weird metallic building in place of the original tower just makes you feel out of place. It looks terrible, in my opinion, and it kills the whole 'California' vision that the park was aiming for. It's sad to see it gone.
We went to Disneyland for my 14th birthday back in 2015 and my biggest regret now is never riding Tower of Terror. I don't do roller coasters or drop rides because of my anxiety, but if I'd known it was gonna close I would've ridden it anyway.
There is just something about the classic 1930-40's and it's themes. Is the decor or just the fascination of the time period. Either way, there is just something about it that when you translate it into horror, it just works so well.
Forge GD - been to the one in florida a few times, its been ' updated' to kid type stuff like making your own virtual car and then all of them ' race' when you run around the track. the revamp is a whole lot faster and bit longer then before. if i could, id go on test track all day and not see anything else👍
I agree that it didn't really fit the theme of Hollywood Blvd. and Buena Vista St. As well as TOT did, but disneyland is now getting a new Marvel Land, in that area so its going to much less of an "eye sore". (Also, mission breakout is an amazing ride with a much more entertaining line que *in my opinion* and it has much more drops and fake-out drops than TOT)
I love Breakout, but it's not my Tower. The facade of the attraction totally voids the theming for Hollywoodland thus voiding the "California" in "California Adventure." Now when I walk through Buena Vista Street all I see is an oil rig.
jonsmovies18fan which finally makes it relevant to film but still doesn't make it thematically correct for Hollywoodland or California Adventure. Like is said. I LOVE Breakout. It's just...... eh.
Hello everyone, thanks for being so patient with this episode. Had a few technical difficulties with it. Also, I tried out a somewhat new format on this video, did you guys like it? Should I go back to the old one? Let me know, I always appreciate your guys' feedback. Either way, hope you enjoy the video and I'll see you in the next one! Quick correction: At around 7:36 I referred to the world showcase lagoon as the "Seven Seas Lagoon" I must have gotten the two mixed up. The real seven seas lagoon is in front of the Magic Kingdom.
That guy must've lost a BIG bet to have to wear that ornament(?) on his ear. It looks like a magnet that you fished out of the kitchen junk drawer and it had all kings of crap stuck to it... lol!
Their plans for Marvel Land cut into not only the Hollywood backlot area, but Bug's Land as well. So both Bug's Land and Tower of Terror were doomed. Tower was simply picked to be refurbished into Guardians as it would be much cheaper than a new attraction, and it could be done in time to coincide with the second movie. Tower of Terror was doomed no matter what, this was just the smarter business option.
Another Disney classic ride rethemed that would make an interesting video would have to be Submarine Voyage given there are three versions of it. The original 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, the one just called Submarine Voyage, and the rethemed Finding Nemo version. It does cover two parks as well.
Clarrisani - I agree, maybe talk about how the Disneyland Submarine Voyage was changed over time, and the Magic Kingdom's 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea as well. Could be two separate videos, or maybe one longer video.
I am so glad they changed a ride i don't understand and has music that haunts me in my sleep, into a ride i understand and can enjoy with characters I know and love.
It's hard to go to California Adventure anymore with the Tower of Terror gone. I personally prefer it over the Guardians of the Galaxy skin- I'm not a fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, but the Twilight Zone is iconic and fits much better with the atheistic of California Adventure. I'm really sad to see the Tower go, and to add insult to injury Paradise Pier is going to get taken out as well and replaced. Screamin' California is probably my favorite roller-coaster and that's going to get canned which means I probably won't be going over to California adventure anymore- if I even visit Disney Land anymore.
"Screamin' California" as you call it is actually called "California Screamin'" and is not being canned in any way shape or form. The ride will be exactly the same, except the tunnels will become enclosed and there will be incredibles themed show scenes in them. So much for knowing all about your 'favorite ride'.
He produced 1981's The Elephant Man, too. He kept his involvement on the QT because he didn't want people thinking it was a comedy. (Anne Bancroft co-starred in it. Seems like she only got the job because she was sleeping with the producer. XD )
You could do the history of: River country Mission to mars Disneyland peoplemover World of motion Sky way to fantasyland 20,000 leagues Magic journeys Etc
Also someone pls explain how this superhero thing fits into a 1920s Hollywood area? Seriously, how do you justify ruining your own theming??? Now I've never seen GotG or ridden the ride, but I can't help but mourn all the California themed attractions that just get tossed out. California Adventure is losing its California!
I am sad about Tower of Terror being gone but Guardians is good too. I feel like the attractions are just so different in tone and atmosphere it's hard to compare. I hope an aspect of the twilight zone stays in the parks.
Great video. It really is heartbreaking the damage Disney has done to DCA just a mere five years after its complete remodel to better the park by giving it a more contingent theming of Walt's California.
Josh TROR How is trying to get more people into your park worse? You can dislike Guardians of the Galaxy, but don't act like the entire park is terrible now because of this one ride, which is undoubtedly the beginning of a fresh start for California Adventure.
Loved this video and all the others as well. As someone who was an AP member for the last year of DCA's Tower and who logged around 40 days in-park in that year, I have to say that as sad as it is to see it go, the ride itself was not bringing in people the way it used to. It was often under 30-minute waits, always had Fast Passes available and generally didn't get a ton of traffic. We will see what the lines do long term, but since the retheme, the traffic through the ride and that area of the park have shot through the roof and we've been seeing wait times of 300 minutes, just like we did when Radiator Springs Racers opened up, which for a mere retheme and not a brand new ride, is pretty impressive. We didn't get that same reaction to the retheme of Soarin at all so clearly this has been a more popular move than it is getting credit for. While I do get the frustration of fans, the main issue is that the land the Tower sat in has been dying a slow death for some time and it was one of only two rides/attraction that was even open at all. The way Disney has appeared to have chosen to save that area is to turn it into a Marvel land, which would totally kill the theme of the Tower completely, so the retheming makes perfect sense and I think will be a great thing for DCA in the long run and bring new life to an area that has needed some desperate help for a long time.
Agree that DCA's Tower of Terror was losing popularity despite being awesome. The idea of this retheme is growing on me because I truly love DCA in general and hate it's reputation as one of the weakest Disney parks. However I didn't know they were planning to change the Hollywood backlot area into Marvel Land...somehow I thought the Marvel area would be an expansion. I LOVE the Hollywood area and would be truly sad to see it go rather than improved under its current theme. I hope Buena Vista Street sticks around at least! It would be so weird to enter DCA and immediately be in a sci-fi outer space area when the rest of the park is still themed around real settings in California. It would've made sense for the Marvel stuff to be entered through Hollywood though because it's movie magic.
+thisismysea I agree that DCA is one of the most underrated parks in the Disney Parks system and we really grew to love it as much as Disneyland itself over the last year. There have been a lot of rumors surrounding the Hollywood backlot, but if they were to add a Marvel land, there really is no more room for expansion in DLR, no matter which park it is. Even Star Wars Land isn't an expansion. They had to tear down a huge chunk of Tom Sawyer's Island and some of the back storage area to make it. As far as I know, Buena Vista Street is not going to be touched nor is the Art of Animation area. There is too much there for kids and young families that is still really popular and has a huge amount of traffic. I know it is really popular for my husband and I. We just love the Beast's Library and Turtle Talk with Crush and more over there. Not to mention that Buena Vista street is the shopping area and Disney won't get rid of that. I have a feeling that the plan is more to take over that area by the Monster's Inc ride and some of the more defunct theaters (aka everything but the Hyperion), but it is still all at the rumor stage at this point. No real telling. I would like to see more rides over there and a bit of revitalisation for sure as that area that had the Mad T Party is just pointless right now, but I too hope it isn't a full land overhaul.
bigevilworldwide1 that is true, which is why we are talking about DCA in California where no such rules apply. I felt like I had heard the new Guardians had added the randomized thing, but I didn't want to say without being sure and I've not been back recently due to having a baby this month.
I know I keep saying it, but hearing that the Tower of Terror gets to be replaced made me a bit sad, but hearing that it'd be Guardians of the Galaxy that would take its place, made me actually really happy, because while I understand what feelings many people may have towards the original ride, I absolutely love Guardians, so I was happy to hear about this, and I'm hoping to one day take that ride, if I'll ever visit the park :)
The tower of terror is, and probably always will be my all time favorite ride. They did an amazing job with design and atmosphere. Really makes you feel like you're in an old, abandoned 1930's style hotel. Sad to see the California one go, but fortunately the Florida one is still here!
The Japanese Tower of Terror has a completely different story, since I guess Twilight Zone never took off over there. I live in Tokyo so it's the one I'm most familiar with. When I came back home to California for a visit and went on the Tower in Disneyland Anaheim, it reminded me of how different it was and I got a whole new appreciation for both rides. Sadly, that was on the very last day the Anaheim tower was in operation. RIP. Also Holy crap a Texas Chainsaw Massacre ride would have been so awesome!!! Wish they went with that.
Thank God that our European version in Paris hasn't changed! So yeah, The DCA version isn't really gone, it's a bit more hard to visit it if you're living in America though xD But I agree; Even though I like the movies from Guardians of the Galaxy, the theming can't hold up comparing it to the original Hollywood Tower Hotel Twilight Zone theme.
Thank you for this. I love that the queue video in the library contained snips from a real episode of the twilight zone. That really made the ride very special. I feel lucky to have gotten to do the tower in California a few years ago.
I think the new Guardians ride is incredibly technically impressive with the stunning Rocket animatronic and lighting effects. That said though...the exterior looks absolutely horrific and I personally think lacks any real thought in regards to the design. It just doesn't make any sense how there's all these little bits and bobs sticking out all over the place. And you can't tell me that's just themeing for the films, the movies actually had some well-placed designs. And I understand the atmosphere is SUPPOSED to be different, but I never felt like the Guardians story, atmosphere, ride in general had any lasting effect. It might just me being salty about them getting rid of my favorite ride ever, but I honestly just feel like it's a bit lazy...
I really want the tower back in DCA, however they did a good job with the gardians lay over. I just like the Tower of terror better! Twighlight zone is awesome! We got to go on last check out, twice once during the day and we were in line at night and the park closed. That was an awesome expense, especially because it was totally dark. My hubby was shaking and I was like yasssssss queen 👑
This one is a bit of a cluster; I am assuming you are talking about the rides in Magic Kingdom in Florida? It originally was the "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Submarine Voyage" ride, which opened in 1971. This was very similar to the submarine voyage in Disneyland, albeit with the fantastic 20,000 Leagues themes. It was suddenly closed in 1994 due to controversial and debatable reasons, and just left there to rot for around 10 years. What a shame, I only got to ride this only once in the early 90s as a child. Around 2004, the ride was demolished to make way for "Poohs Playful Spot". In the more recent years, it was subsequently redeveloped for the "Seven Dwarves Mine Cart Train" ride that exists today, which probably coincides with the removal of "Snow White Scary Adventures" ride.
Swel L, I actually did not know that the two Snow White attractions in the Magic Kingdom were in different areas, thank you for clarifying that. I think it would be interesting to see a video that would encompass the history of the two Snow White attractions and the things that were once in their place, also.
Intentional: IT WAS A WARNING. To quote Mystery Science Theater 3000: GOOD OLD-FASHIONED NIGHTMARE FUEL! The much less obvious 'TERROR' in ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter probably didn't help that ride, so, interesting comparison.
I'm so grateful that i was able to ride it! It was my most favorite ride ever in the California Adventure park, when i found out it was closing, i was super sad since it's been my favorite ride since i was little, i will always remember how fun it was.
The moment I wanted to be brave for this ride... and then it turns into guardians of the galaxy and crushes my hopes and dreams... please no touchy the one in florida.
You're missing the key reason why the Tower of Terror was Switched to Guardians of the Galaxy. Simply, Disney does not own full rights to the Twilight Zone. Everytime someone went on the ride, Disney had to pay a royalty. With two locations, that became rather pricey. Not sure how you missed this key part.
blackfox1320 actually. The license to use the Twilight Zone expired and they didn't want to renew it. That's my theory. It could have happen but I'm not a Disney employee to know what happened.
If Walt was still alive, i don't think he will like that they changed it to Guardians of the Galaxy. ToT was a classic to California Adventure. Or if I was Walt I would not like it and I will say "yeah NO."
@@enzocold6611 Most definitely. His body has probably dug to the center of the earth with how much rolling he's done in response to what Disney has done to arrive at its current state.
In fairness, Walt was not even alive when the Tower of Terror was built. I always loved the Tower of Terror but I'm not sure how Disney would've felt about any of his parks being mixed with a Rod Serling theme.
I'm finally going to Disneyland after 30+ years in September 2000, but I waited to long. So many rides came and went I missed. Disneyland was my heart. And I blew it.
The tower of terror in California adventure opened on my birthday in 2004, when I happened to be at Disneyland for my birthday. I remember riding it on opening day and instantly fell in love with it. It was my favorite ride and was on my Must Ride list. I was very sad when they decided to change it into the Guardians of the Galaxy ride. I rode it in January and it was cool but it was kinda disappointing. I just hope they don't change the other tower of terror rides to this ride
Thank you so much for this video! My heart was broken when they announced the change. Best time to go on the ride was during the Disney land firework show. Not only was the line short, but you saw the fire works at the top story when the doors opened! Best memories and feelz of my life!
A really nice and informative history of DCA's ToT. Mission: Cash Grab is an embarrassment. It's like Disney just threw out their rule book on Imagineering and copied what Universal is doing: cheap and easy screen-based attractions. Disney and Marvel fans deserve better.
They paid a royalty on ToT everytime someone rode on it. Disney does not own the rights, hence it was never intended to have both locations be permanent.
Kram Sacul What's cheaper, an original attraction, or a downgraded clone of another. Like it or not, but GotG has more value to a non passholder or tourist, as it can't be found anywhere else.
The rights to use the Twilight Zone are a lot cheaper than doing an overlay. They did this to put Marvel into the parks and quickly and as cheap as possible. That's all there is to it.
the end of April 2004 my husband and I were on our honeymoon at Disneyland and California adventure we were invited to ride HTH before it officially opened
Same. I still have our complimentary photo. My name is in the guestbook. Who knows where that guestbook is now. >: (I also still have the "I took the dare" sticker they gave us)
I think it makes a lot of sense. It brings another original ride to the park. Plus, just like the Tower of Terror, it has a great Hollywood theming, based on a property Disney acquired.
I really like mission breakout! I think it makes the up-and-down mechanic more interesting, and from a business standpoint, it was a very smart decision 👍👍👍 Also, the new Rocket animatronic in the pre-show room is sooo cute! Not Disney’s best or most fluid figure by any means, but I think he looks good nevertheless!
Oh no it wasn't a smart business decision. After I take over Disney, I'm breaking them up and that includes selling off Marvel and removing all traces of Marvel from the parks. I'm going to make DCA great again and put Tower of Terror back. I don't care if that causes attendance to drop like a rock and turns the park into a ghost town.
I wish they didn’t replace it with the guardians of the galaxy, Disney should really stop filling up Disney land with marvel, maybe they should build their own separate land it’s kinda annoying.
Dude I miss this ride so much... I’m only 14 and tower of terror was one of the first rides I went to in Disneyland. I went to that ride every single time I was able to go to Disneyland. This is such bull this is like the only thing I’ve ever felt nostalgic for
I got to go to Disney world my senior year for band. We rode this ride like 10 or 15 times. Great fun! It only dropped twice when we went in 1998. Brings back good memories. J.
Thanks for the video! I worked at the ToT in 1997 (including the night the ToT movie premiered on TV) and remember the days of the long lap bars. Good airtime in those.
zombiekiller2112 It boils down to the concept itself. Disneyland takes you to exotic locations, while DCA takes you to the state you're already in. It needs more things that you can't find anywhere else, not a clone of a ride at two other parks already.
If you're unfamilliar with the Twilight Zone.... Me: But but but... It's the Twilight Zone! I thought Everyone knew about the Twilight Zone! Sigh... I feel so old now... *crawls into corner*
Let's be real here: The Twilight Zone is one of those things that pretty much everyone knows about even if they don't know they know. Like...so much of it has been parodied and ripped off in various forms over the years in other pieces of media (the S2 theme music, "it's a cookbook", all the episodes featuring sentient toys, and the gremlin on the wing of the plane in particular) that it's virtually impossible for someone who consumes even a basic amount of media to *not* know about it even though they might not be aware of it.
My family and I were lucky enough to go to the DCA ToT a couple of years before it’s transformation. It was a wonderful classic and timeless because of its theme. It was museum worthy and is a loss. The Paris version however is also very good. This year I’m headed to the Florida version so will collect the trilogy. Grateful that I had the chance!
I mean for me, the ride was awesome because of its theme. The abandoned hotel, the stoic and emotionless employees, that awesome video you would watch in the tiny library room, how amazingly decorated everything was, the wave goodbye, and then the real fun began. copperkiddo never trust a guy who thinks it’s okay to wear that kind of earring in his ear lobe lol
That dude's earlobe freaks me out.
Joseph animation I was hoping that was some kind of joke prosthetic
Joseph animation yassss
Yea
Makes you wonder if an earlobe like that improved his hearing or not.
He's a very creative bloke, but I doubt Walt would have anything to do with his choice in jewelry.
Wants tall attraction to fit in with the rest of Anaheim. Changes it to a huge, orange mass that is Guardians of the Galaxy.
Jason's Star Traders Such an eyesore
Tower of terror may be gone but the horror is real at 10:12
Lol
XDDDD
that was ear-y
Agreed. XD
🤣🤣🤣
But you know it's gonna be good when the imagineer guy with the crazy earring shows up.
I thought he was using his ear as a keychain.
his ear dropped like the tower did
I don't see how anyone can listen to a word the guy says with that earring pulling his ear like a nut sack
When I saw it I was like "the fuck?!?!"
Chase Munro i have stretched ears an i said the same thing
Christipher Gedge I see.
Tower of terror was really the only reason to go to California adventure.
What about Radiator Spring Racers and California Scre- Oh wait

I avoid CA adventures usually, and I was sad about it becoming soarin around the world. But I do think incredicoaster is fun and cute, guardians was WAY better than I had expected (and for now, thankfully, WDW has tower of terror!), and the Ariel ride is cute too.
@@brittniep9219 ok but no one missed the Golden Dreams show that was replaced by Ariel anyways so
What an eyesore. Abandoned hotel fits better with the California theme.
Well, Disney will be turning away from the California theme
They're slowly retheming DCA, and surely they'll rename the park
kendrick5501 Exactly! Finally someone without tunnel vision and looking at the future.
Bryce Bitetti Well I will miss the California theme tbh
But, what I don't like about this is how will the park's overall theme be based on.
I have the creeping suspicion that this might be the beginning of the end when the licence has gone out of style, which it might already have...
keniakittykat
You got it.
A few other notable examples are:
Mission to mars -> Alien extraterrorestrial -> Stitch's great escape
Submarine voyage-> Finding Nemo submarine voyage
Maelstorm-> Frozen ever after
(The only exception to this trend, as far as I know, is Superstar Limo. But that one was dead on arrival, so any change would have been better.)
I only hope that they treat the ride with more care and respect if they do update it.
Exactly
We went to Disneyland for my 14th birthday back in 2015 and my biggest regret now is never riding Tower of Terror. I don't do roller coasters or drop rides because of my anxiety, but if I'd known it was gonna close I would've ridden it anyway.
Same
@@Flora_Dawn Paris still has its tower
There is just something about the classic 1930-40's and it's themes. Is the decor or just the fascination of the time period. Either way, there is just something about it that when you translate it into horror, it just works so well.
10:16 Wtf happened to ur ear!!!????
TheEnderGirl I know WTF
WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR FACE.
I was looking for this comment.
Right!?
I mean I have 22 piercings but that shit is ludicrous!
Would love to see the original test track in Epcot
Forge GD - been to the one in florida a few times, its been ' updated' to kid type stuff like making your own virtual car and then all of them ' race' when you run around the track. the revamp is a whole lot faster and bit longer then before. if i could, id go on test track all day and not see anything else👍
I went on it when it was new. It was fun but.. not amazing.
Forge GD yes
Forge GD Radiator Spring Racers uses the same ride system as Test Track.
Forge GD ive been on it a long time ago I barely remember it
I find mission breakout to be kind of an eyesore and really ugly. The rides fine I guess just feel like it’s a cash grab and not needed.
Have you ever been on it? The animation is amazing, and the visuals are fun. It also has much more action than TOT
thought u were talking about the guys ear
Jourdon Aguilar there is a chance that it will pop up in the MCU in Thor: Ragnarok.
jonsmovies18fan which finally makes it relevant to film but still doesn't make it thematically correct for Hollywoodland or California Adventure. Like is said. I LOVE Breakout. It's just...... eh.
Jourdon Aguilar I think it'll fit more cohesively when Marvel Land opens.
Bryce Bitetti yes it will. And bring back Iron Man to the parks.
"Marvel Land." "A Bug's Land." "Cars Land." Oh yeah, Disney. Really nailing the California theme out there.
twilight zone is a definite must see. Netflix is running it currently and its pretty amazing what effects they were able to pull off.
Park Ride History i like this new format
Park Ride History yo do back to the future the ride pls pls PLS!
Hey Park Ride History Can You do Kongfrontation?
Park Ride History Im pretty sure that the generator scene is a real set
Liking the new format. Keep up the great work, love your videos!
The one in Florida is my all time favorite ride.
amazing detail, build-up and pay-off.
What the hell is with that one dudes ear? it looks like he has his keys hanging off the side of his head and it looks awful.
was half expecting his earlobe to fall off mid sentence
I know I stop listening to what the dude was saying and just starring at the thing and all I could think was dude just get thing thing off your ear
Given how much DAMAGE Joe Rhode has done over the years to real modern and old classics, I'd love to rip that ear lobe off.
I know!!!! The earring looked cool and get what he's going for, but it looked like a pair of sagging balls...
Thank you for saying what I was thinking.
That guy must've lost a BIG bet to have to wear that ornament(?) on his ear. It looks like a magnet that you fished out of the kitchen junk drawer and it had all kings of crap stuck to it... lol!
It was my favorite ride ever I'm sad to see it go
I fell in love with it when I was 7!! RIP 😞
Well HAVE U RIDE GUARDIANS OF THe GALAXY
What makes me the most mad is that Disney Keeps bugs land around likenwhy not take that out and out Guardians of the Galaxy there
Their plans for Marvel Land cut into not only the Hollywood backlot area, but Bug's Land as well. So both Bug's Land and Tower of Terror were doomed. Tower was simply picked to be refurbished into Guardians as it would be much cheaper than a new attraction, and it could be done in time to coincide with the second movie. Tower of Terror was doomed no matter what, this was just the smarter business option.
I'm still mad that they turned Sid and Marty Krofft world into CNN headquarters
Another Disney classic ride rethemed that would make an interesting video would have to be Submarine Voyage given there are three versions of it. The original 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, the one just called Submarine Voyage, and the rethemed Finding Nemo version. It does cover two parks as well.
There's also a version in Japan. I wish he would talk about the overseas versions as well.
Clarrisani the attraction kinda sucks tho...
This potato opened with the park. Much like the people mover.
Clarrisani - I agree, maybe talk about how the Disneyland Submarine Voyage was changed over time, and the Magic Kingdom's 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea as well. Could be two separate videos, or maybe one longer video.
Defunctland goes over all of this stuff.
Tower of Terror is one of my favorite rides. I love the story and the use of the Twilight Zone.
I miss the Tower of Terror
UbinTimor ik good thing I'm in Europe tho cuz I go to Disney land Paris and they have it there
joeylantis22 they're putting an incredibles theme on it?! But I think it looks better the way it is, it really fits the southern California aesthetic
joeylantis22 if it’s the same, then what’s the point of changing the ride.
Don't worry, nothing is getting canned, Disney won't give the budget to do that!
Tower of terror was amazing now it's just a building with colorful pipes thrown all over the place
no ones gonna mention that one dude's ear?

Also someone pls explain how this superhero thing fits into a 1920s Hollywood area? Seriously, how do you justify ruining your own theming??? Now I've never seen GotG or ridden the ride, but I can't help but mourn all the California themed attractions that just get tossed out. California Adventure is losing its California!
I am sad about Tower of Terror being gone but Guardians is good too. I feel like the attractions are just so different in tone and atmosphere it's hard to compare. I hope an aspect of the twilight zone stays in the parks.
Great videos. I love how you're organizing them into play lists based on what park they were in and not one big catch all. keep up the great work
Great video. It really is heartbreaking the damage Disney has done to DCA just a mere five years after its complete remodel to better the park by giving it a more contingent theming of Walt's California.
Josh TROR Hey, you again. Still salty as ever I see.
So true!!! The went to all that trouble perfecting buena vista street for nothing!!!!
whats so heartbreaking about wanting to make a park better?
It's heartbreaking because they made the park worse just after making it better.
Josh TROR How is trying to get more people into your park worse? You can dislike Guardians of the Galaxy, but don't act like the entire park is terrible now because of this one ride, which is undoubtedly the beginning of a fresh start for California Adventure.
first the Tower of Terror now California Screamin, i'm so mad!!! they are getting rid of all my favorites!!!!!!!!!
To be honest if they didn't add all those dark ride segments, the coaster would still be fine.
Disney should have used randomized drops for DCA, or make special drop events, just like they do in TDS Tower of Terror.
I felt like I had heard the new Guardians had added the randomized thing, but I didn't want to say without being sure and I've not been back recently due to having a baby this month.
under 30 min waits and always having fast passes available sounds like a dream to the guest though...
I know I keep saying it, but hearing that the Tower of Terror gets to be replaced made me a bit sad, but hearing that it'd be Guardians of the Galaxy that would take its place, made me actually really happy, because while I understand what feelings many people may have towards the original ride, I absolutely love Guardians, so I was happy to hear about this, and I'm hoping to one day take that ride, if I'll ever visit the park :)
i'd love to know the history of how the countries in epcot were decided on and created, and which ones were rejected.
From memory I can tell you that Russia was in the process of being added in the early 90s, but the collapse of the USSR in 1991 put an end to that.
The randomized drop sequence did wonders for the ride. I'll miss the tower of terror theming but honestly guardians is a great ride
Thank you for this. I love that the queue video in the library contained snips from a real episode of the twilight zone. That really made the ride very special. I feel lucky to have gotten to do the tower in California a few years ago.
11:09 I was behind that lady walking through cars land when they opened it up for the press tours... That's crazy
the detail in the ride is incredible! From the outside to inside, I love it so much!
Snow white's scary adventures to seven dwarves mine train
They have a Snow White book in the new Princess Fairytale Hall to honor where Scary Adventures once was.
mehrdad shoar nobari That would b cool in my opinion
Intentional: IT WAS A WARNING. To quote Mystery Science Theater 3000: GOOD OLD-FASHIONED NIGHTMARE FUEL!
The much less obvious 'TERROR' in ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter probably didn't help that ride, so, interesting comparison.
I'm so grateful that i was able to ride it! It was my most favorite ride ever in the California Adventure park, when i found out it was closing, i was super sad since it's been my favorite ride since i was little, i will always remember how fun it was.
His ear has trinkets of peoples hopes, dreams and souls that he has collected along the way to commercialism! Just snip it and set them free!
Len Tayo 😂😂😂😂
It could have happen but I'm not a Disney employee to know what happened.
blackfox1320 if the Twilight Zone License expired then why didn't they change the WDW ride??
Irene Zamora they will just drop The Twilight Zone name.
jonsmovies18fan if the license expired why didn't they Change the wdw ride?
Irene Zamora well I'm not a Disney Imagineer to know how they would do it. It's Disney who would figure it out.
I used a Fastpass reservation for Tower of Terror in Disneyworld a few years back. It was definitely one of my favorite rides from my trip.
If Walt was still alive, i don't think he will like that they changed it to Guardians of the Galaxy. ToT was a classic to California Adventure. Or if I was Walt I would not like it and I will say "yeah NO."
I'm pretty sure Walt would rolling in his grave if knew what his company has become.
LOVE JOE, what a creative! Really enjoyed him on Disney plus talking about Animal Kingdom. Very special fella.
Update! To date Pandora World is the most expensive attraction. It capped over 1 billion
Now Star Wars as well.
Went on this ride countless times during our visit to Disney world in about 1995-6ish, sooo much fun. We had the double drop.
Why didn't you mention the Rocket Raccoon animatronic? That was a huge addition to the ride.
死んだ赤 He showed a photo.
Despite it replacing such an iconic ride, the Rocket animatronic in the ride looks REALLY good and so much more lifelike than their other ones.
Yeah, it looks real!
at what point in the ride do you see rocket? i’ve heard about it but haven’t ever actually seen the animatronic in action
It cost them $100 million just to retrofit the ride into the GotG version. That is NOT cheap.
But you’ll still pay up anyways.
I have awesome memories with my kids and that ride at Disney World. Awesome photos.
the end of April 2004 my husband and I were on our honeymoon at Disneyland and California adventure we were invited to ride HTH before it officially opened
Linnea D I had the same opportunity a couple years back! It is one of reasons I’m so attached to the old ride.
Same. I still have our complimentary photo. My name is in the guestbook. Who knows where that guestbook is now. >:
(I also still have the "I took the dare" sticker they gave us)
Cool
This will always be one of my most favourite ride
10:12 I couldn't stop looking at that dudes ear
Dude same
I think it makes a lot of sense. It brings another original ride to the park. Plus, just like the Tower of Terror, it has a great Hollywood theming, based on a property Disney acquired.
I really like mission breakout!
I think it makes the up-and-down mechanic more interesting, and from a business standpoint, it was a very smart decision 👍👍👍
Also, the new Rocket animatronic in the pre-show room is sooo cute! Not Disney’s best or most fluid figure by any means, but I think he looks good nevertheless!
Cuddle Bee yeah. They sold out to make a quick and easy buck. How long do you think Guardians will even be relevant? A lifetime? wrong
Oh no it wasn't a smart business decision. After I take over Disney, I'm breaking them up and that includes selling off Marvel and removing all traces of Marvel from the parks. I'm going to make DCA great again and put Tower of Terror back. I don't care if that causes attendance to drop like a rock and turns the park into a ghost town.
stanfordite well it’s never going to happen because you appprently need to have no soul to be a CEO of a devilish company
They should’ve never got rid of it in LA. It was the best ride in the park.
TOO MANY EARRINGS!!!!! TOO MANY! TOO MANY!!!
JJ Koester Yep! 🤣
its a perversion
Damn that outro with the classic music got me all choked up.
This is such bull this is like the only thing I’ve ever felt nostalgic for
Something that ruins it even more is that they are building something futuristic in a 1920's area! Something like that would belong in Tomorrowland!
I got to go to Disney world my senior year for band. We rode this ride like 10 or 15 times. Great fun! It only dropped twice when we went in 1998. Brings back good memories. J.
Why does nobody ever talk about the tower of terror movie.
dude your knowledge on this is stuff is crazy. Great work my man!
Does anybody know where the Hollywood Tower of Terror sign has been relocated to? Haven't found any info on it yet
Wow these videos are great! I love your channel! So looking forward to the next video! Thank you for producing such quality content!!!
At least it's still in Paris
Hope they don't change that one
Thank you for these videos, I love seeing the changes and the history!!
The Twilight Zone is actually a CBS property, not NBC. :)
I was a bellhop at the DCA Tower, I loved every minute of that job. I quit just before Mission Breakout was announced to the public.
That guy's ear was a janitor
Thanks for the video! I worked at the ToT in 1997 (including the night the ToT movie premiered on TV) and remember the days of the long lap bars. Good airtime in those.
You should do Spaceship Earth!
Have I finally gotten old enough to be sad at a ride being closed? I'm not ready for this sadness.
Maybe do a history on Cali adventure. Why was it so bad?
zombiekiller2112 Super Star Limo, that's why.
Micheal eisners Yacht collection, Thats why
bigevilworldwide1 Igner is greedy bc he is jewish i heard
zombiekiller2112 hey we enjoyed ours too.
zombiekiller2112 It boils down to the concept itself. Disneyland takes you to exotic locations, while DCA takes you to the state you're already in. It needs more things that you can't find anywhere else, not a clone of a ride at two other parks already.
Thanks God I had the opportunity to ride it once. It was fantastic. It was unique.
If you're unfamilliar with the Twilight Zone....
Me: But but but... It's the Twilight Zone! I thought Everyone knew about the Twilight Zone!
Sigh... I feel so old now... *crawls into corner*
DisneyMagicDreamer85 boomer confirmed
Grateful that I had the chance!
can you do journey into imagination or the time keeper
This video made me cry. I took the renovation very personally.
