    For anyone reading this: I know that dog training can be difficult sometimes, but you're doing great. Keep up the good work, and your dog (and your own sanity) will thank you for it! ❤️💕

      What is great about it ? Throwing kibble in the bath tub?

    • @SomeMinorDogTraining
      @SomeMinorDogTraining 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@TLFaun because many people who have dogs with this issue don't do anything to help because they're not sure how to go about it. So the issue gets worse. He's showing them a method to help. Helping uninformed dog owners is what's so great about it. ❤️💕

      @TLFaun 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@SomeMinorDogTraining You have lost your mind :D There are so many much better ways.
      You can achieve 500% better results with 1 piece of dried beef liver and a slip lead. Imagine the dog gets too stressed ? Do you think shoving kibble in its face will help? You lot have no clue ... thats why 80% of dogs on the streets are jackasses

    • @SomeMinorDogTraining
      @SomeMinorDogTraining 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@TLFaun yes, there are plenty of ways. But to an uninformed dog owner, any way is better than not training them at all. And we also have to keep in mind that not every method will work with every dog, so it's advantageous to have multiple ways to do the same thing.

    • @SomeMinorDogTraining
      @SomeMinorDogTraining 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@TLFaun that would actually be more along my methods. I'm a big fan of the slip lead. I also know at least 3 different ways to teach this off the top of my head, so if I ever come across a dog that can't have a slip lead due to neck injuries or something, or that can't eat a lot of different things due to medical conditions, I have a backup way to teach it. That's being a balanced trainer. Not shunning every way that isn't yours.

    also well done with this video. This is EXACTLY how I got my personal dog (golden retriever who I got at 15 months old) from hating and being scared of the bath, to loving it. It's still a working progress, but he now quite enjoys bathtime.

    I use a lick mat covered in peanut butter, stuck to the tub, to get them comfortable with baths. It was a really good reinforcer and distraction and now whenever my dogs go into the bathroom, they go straight to the tub in search of the lick mat 😂
    I like to just send them to the groomer though, it’s easier for all of us. They started getting professionally groomed as puppies (after all their shots), and the groomer did short intro to grooming sessions to condition them. It makes life easier and my dogs love going.

    Our dog Rigby gets a bath in a tub filled with water and he enjoys the warm water but he didn't always like it. We did not start him as favorably as Shade is being started sadly but he is very tolerant. It also took him 3 summers to learn to swim. We would take him to the river and allow him to wade in the water which was all he would do. For 2 full summers he watched us swimming while he barked from the shore at times to warn us as he seemed sure that total immersion in water was a bad idea. Then one day he just jumped in and joined us. That day he had a great time with his discovery that swimming was fun and swam for most of the day bringing us many round rocks from the river bottom that he knew weren't balls but figured close enough lol. Patience seems to be key. Also some pet stores sell wet wipes for dogs for those times you want to wash a dog until they become used to baths.

    Cane corso s are extremely powerful and strong willed dogs. They need boundaries but also gentle leadership. I have a 9 month old male and he is so sweet but from time to time he will push to see how far he can go doing the wrong thing. Great work with the bath doing small steps.

    My husky puppy has had two baths now, and his comfort level is definitely going the wrong way. He enjoys his wading pool, and will jump in and out of the tub and check things out, and likes to watch me while I'm in the shower, so he's not completely adverse. Thanks for this video, I'm going to back up and do this for his engagement sessions for a few days.

    I think what I appreciate about you is that you remind me that I need to slow down and break steps up more.
    Today I gave my brother's roommate's 6 month puppy a bath, and I jumped a little too far ahead with the blow dryer and he got nervous.
    Unfortunately the owner may not work with him, but I visit enough that I hope to continue getting him used to the sound and the blowing air with treats and positive reinforcement.

    Just out of curiosity, if you already had a dog that was good with baths, would it make things easier to have the puppy in the bathroom while bathing the other dog before trying to train the puppy? Would a dog pick up that the bath is no big deal from the already trained dog? I'd expect the training process would be the same either way, just that the initial session might be less stressful to the pup and could possibly go a bit faster/smoother.
    By the way, I'm glad you're posting another full Shade training video.

    I don't have a dog yet, but I am planning and thinking, that in the bathtub, there should be a slip-proof pad of a kind, so the dog won't be slipping on the slippery surface of the porcelain bathtub. I am planning to get slow progressions, and let it very much being in the dog's pace.
    Since it's a hairy dog breed I am going for, I also plan to practice and condition them to the sounds of more motorized objects in the household, maybe take it to the hairdresser salon, for people, so it gets to hear the loud sounds of all those weird things, and see those things making those noises.
    Final step I am considering is towards being in the groomer salon. First without getting groomed, but to learn the things in there, the scents, and the sounds coming from there, for later, getting an appointment for getting a propper groom.

    Our Chihuahua/JRT doesn't like baths but she's gotten comfortable enough to accept it, even following a command to "place" in the tub. Her look is kind of like, "OK, let's get this over with quick." Our Yorkiepoo and standard poodle are more used to formal grooming and feel like they're missing out if they aren't included during a bathtime.

    Wish I saw this when my dog was younger. She doesn’t get aggressive but she’s extremely fearful. Imagine pulling, jumping and crashing into objects. I have trouble handling her because she tries to gtfo. Whether I’m bathing her indoors or outdoors. It’s so tough. I never had this issue before and I feel like it’s too late to fix it now that she’s 1. Would be great to show what one should dog with an extremely fearful dog during bath. Like a wild animal type of fear.

    Hi Zak, thanks a lot for the vid,
    I very much disagree with a lot of your fear, aggression etc. methods, but stuff like this, well done. Out of the positive reinforcement community, I respect you by far the most. The proof is in the pudding. Although a lot of your videos are mostly you just talking, which means almost nothing to most people (such as the way K9 Tay reacts to videos, yet her dog Adonis hates other dogs), your dog Inertia is so good. That shows that purely positive methods work and are preferable for general obedience. I never punish to get a dog to follow a command either, but thank you for showing us Inertia being so well behaved and happy, thanks to you. Wish the same could be said about Veronica (you didn't socialize her with other dogs like you did Inertia), but anyway, well done.
    Also, I'd love to see you put up a video explaining exactly how you got Inertia to where she is, obedience wise, particularly the amazing heel, left and right.

    My dog just shakes the whole time during bath time
    He dislikes water more than anything else
    And it was my family's fault for that
    When he was a puppy, we just gave him a bath when we had to take a bath
    We did it too fast. The ground was slippery, and it gave him the fear of water
    He will tolerate it, but honestly, he wishes he never had to take a bath
    Took him YEARS to feel comfortable walking into that bathroom

      @user-eg2dz7gm2q like I said
      He will tolerate baths (we bathe the dogs outside, but as a puppy, we did the shower )
      He's able to go into the bathroom without fear
      But the pool- nope
      Anything water, he avoids
      He's almost 8, and none of my family members trained him to like the water
      He's my childhood dog, so that's why I haven't trained him yet to like the water
      My parents were too busy to help
      It's not a huge problem
      It's honestly good that he fears the pool
      He's top heavy and can drown easily

    The real question here is why bath your dog rather than how to bath your dog. A short coated dog like a Cane Corso should not need bathing. Allow the coat to dry after a walk and then brush and comb off any dried mud. If you regularly bath the dog you will remove natural oils from the coat which will reduce it's ability to repel water on wet walks leaving the dog cold and uncomfortable. If you do need to clean the coat use dilute canine hair conditioner and a chamois leather and lightly rub over the coat to remove just the surface layer of oil which may have trapped grime. This was all we did even when successfully showing our Rotts in breed competitions. Ask yourself - do you really want to scratch your bath and damage your back by lifting a 100lb dog in and out?

      How much or what ratio do you dilute the dog conditioner? Also, any tips for cleaning their paws? I just adopted a 3 year old Boxer/Staffy mix and she's super stinky with an oily coat. I was going to try a full-on bath with water, but your method sounds great. Thanks in advance.

    • @johnhubble5156
      @johnhubble5156 5 месяцев назад

      @@FlwrCats76 We used canine conditioner from a reputable manufacturer, there should be several to choose from. We used a very dilute solution around a capful (3-5ml) in around a gallon of warm water. Make sure the conditioner is well mixed the soak the leather in the solution.. Once wet squeeze out as much solution as possible then firmly rub over the coat. If the coat is very dirty also rub against the grain of the coat to lift the hair to bring it into contact with the leather. You will need to rinse and resoak the leather a number of times and you should see the solution become dirty as the grime is removed. This will leave the coat slighty damp but not wet so there should be no need to dry the dog. A further advantage is the conditioer will be slightly scented which might help with the smell. Hope this helps.

      That sounds like a much more interesting videos. Zak has done 'puppy's first bath' videos before. I understand prevention is better than having to try and undo any negative association, but lots of people struggle with their adult dog if they really don't like baths. And often, when baths are needed, you don't have the luxury of taking it very slow and taking an hour or longer.

He's happy to jump into water troughs or wade in a creek when he gets hot. Rain doesn't bother him either; he's happy to go for a walk or play fetch in a downpour.

    😄 After giving a dog a bath , the one that is most wet is the parent .

    Since ya'll have not continued your series on a regular basis I have been checking out Dunbar and Victoria Stillwell. AS it turns out I am not a BIG fan of either. They talk talk talk while training and skip steps that while not cruciel to a trainer (me) it can really throw off a new dog owner.. Zak your great but you do skip steps on occasion.

    Best to train when they are pups, but training older dogs are acheivable. 😝

    Don't think I've ever seen anyone make so many mistakes with a dog. What are you drugging them up with for the 2nd half of your videos. It's so obvious to real dog handlers what's going on. Stop ABUSING DOGS!!! WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?

    Zak, are you joking? Throwing kibble in the tub? You have lost your mind :D You failed to train your other dog, so now you are messing this one up again. Sad to see

    ZAK's CREDENTIALS ARE A PETSMART CERTIFICATE. He makes these videos simply to make money. TRY to find a testimonial for his traiming of an ACTUAL client. You won't be able to lol.

    I wouldn't trust this guy with a dog you'd buy for a kid at a toy shop

    Im sure this guy loves dogs but his training doesn't effectively deal with the biggest problem people have with their dog, thats canine aggression. I heard him being severly critical of a trainer called The Dog Daddy. So that got me interested enough to check out his videos. Now i know why he hates on the man. Its jealousy because Zak dude sucks! compared to The Dog Daddy who's training techniques are more effective for the dog and the owner.

    See if you let other trainers do their job without emphasizing negatively, in this case the dog daddy, you are nothing more than envious, but at the same time the more negatively you talk about this trainer, the more your real face is seen. see if you gain some shame
