I love your series. I have a 12 week old puppy and am sitting here laughing at your leave it. I am so glad you leave real life in your series. With babies and that is what puppies are it is some times one step forward 2 steps back. The reward in staying with it, even on days when they don't remember anything, is they grow up into well trained adult dogs. Thank you for all your advice
I have a German Shepherd, that will be a year old next month. She doesn’t do too bad on the lead, I would really love to see some training for older dogs thank you I love your episode I have learned a lot since she’s been a pup.
I am so glad I stumbled on your channel. I'm actively looking at getting a puppy for our family. Although I know the committment is huge, I want to research as much as possible beforehand. You have no idea how much I've learned watching this series! Thank you Zac, Bree and Kona ❤❤
I've seen so many dog training youtube channels, rachel, Kip, marie, etc they're all great, but you do it in such an approachable and in depth way...thank you soooooo much. like thank you! For someone like me who gets more stressed about things than excited cuz I'm just an anxious person, I can finally feel a little confidant in getting a pup of my own soon. Thank you!!!
This video was so helpful! I took my Pomeranian puppy for her first walk yesterday and she started barking at people and dogs. I kinda freaked out because I already have a reactive sheltie (who is in training and is doing very well) and I thought that she’d end up like my sheltie. I’m so pleased to know it’s just a puppy thing and now I know how to deal with it. Thanks for all the help Zak 😁
I’m getting a goldendoodle puppy next week and I’m trying to learn the most I can so I Can be the best dog mom!!! So happy I found you and your book!!!
I find that dog training is as much about training the owner as it is for the dog. I'm watching these videos because I know there are a lot of things I need to learn before I start trying to train our dog.
My 1 yr old French Bulldog sometimes just refuses to walk on leash. She sometimes just stops abruptly and is hard to get attention. This was super helpful. I only ever see videos on how to get a dog to stop pulling but not how to get their attention and keep them moving. Thanks! Excited to try out these tricks.
Zak I must say your training is great! I really want a dog and my aim is for my birthday in March if i can convince my parents. Even though I'm 22, it's a struggle to convince them! I've been binging this series just like a TV show - I'll definitely be referring to your training methods when I have my own dog! I'm aware of the basics such as sit, stay, leave it, look at me etc that I can execute because I taught my aunt's dog these but there are others that I have no clue about!
I appreciate your videos and training us to help our dogs and families. I gotta say though, as a grandmother 👵🏻 I don’t begin to have the level of energy you exhibit when Kona does something right! It’s important and a great motivator but it’s just not in me to give. I can manage a “good boy” and a treat though. 🤞🏻🤷♀️🙏
We’re bringing home a goldendoodle puppy in a few weeks and these videos are super helpful. We also have a GSD who still needs a lot of training but is 2 yrs old now so we’re hoping to get an early start with our new pup and hoping we can engage our GSD to do the same!
I have a little dachshund mix and he's doing great with your training methods! I have family members who still believe in showing your dog force and they'll comply but I've found that my puppy seems to love training and listening to me instead of being fearful when asked so to do something
Zak,i m beyond grateful for all the content you put out there! How do you create distance from a distraction that surprised you without pulling them when they are unresponsive to treats?Thank you so much!
I adopted my first dog about a month ago. A 4 year old red Australian Shepherd who was brought in as a stray. We were so pleasantly surprised that she will walk half a step behind us, off leash, without any treats to lure her, on all our trails and off trails hikes. My question is how do I walk her on a very long leash and allow her to explore without the leash getting tangled or wrapped around a sagebrush or tree trunks etc? Which long leash would you recommend? I very much resonate and enjoy learning to train my dog through your videos, Zak. Thank you so much!
Fun fact - my dog hated the sound of the clicker and initially shut down to the point where she wouldn’t take food so I had to use a target word (yip)! I have conditioned her to deal with it but she doesn’t associate it with positive reinforcement because she just naturally hates clicking sounds! But is alright with banging sounds, alarms, etc just goes to show every dog is an individual!
I'm way too neurotic for a clicker. I see/feel a button, I must click it. I'll use the "yess" with a very sharp end to make it more unique than normal conversation.
Hey Zak I just found your youtube channel and it is great! I just got my first dog and your training tips have been helping a great deal. I have one question for you. She is a year old, pitbull mixed with a lab (mostly pit). She is a sweet dog. The one thing I have no clue on how to change is her putting her teeth on people. Not in a bitting or nipping way at all. Just like she is trying to get your attention or something. Do you have tips for this?
Zak, what's your opinion on the whole "positive reinforcement only". It isn't actually +R only since something as simple as you withdrawing the treat when she got up from a crawl is literally defined as a "negative inhibitor (or punisher)"?
Hi Zak, I am sure you have answered this a ton, but what are your favorite training treats? Our dog is about 9 months and we are using your training videos religiously! Thank you!
We have 2 8 week old puppies. We are binge watching trying to learn everything we can. We listened to you book on Audible before we brought them home. Can we train the 2 together at the same time? It seems impossible at the moment. 🙂
You can do behaviours they already know really well. I wouldn't recommend it for new behaviours. For more puppy info check out these two free puppy ebooks www.simpawtico-training.com/learning/downloadables/
Hello Zak! Thought I would try and reach out to you to see if you had any idea on how I could keep my puppies in shape and happy during this horrible 180 day Quarantine before we head to Japan. Any Tips? They’re not allowed to be with other dogs or be outside for any times other than to potty. So this is where I’m kinda struggling.
I always find it difficult rewarding my 2 cavalier dogs with a treat when walking as they are small and I'm always needung to crouch down to deliver it lol.
I have a hard time with leash training my four and a half month old golden retriever. Sometimes he just stops walking and wants to go a certain direction I’m not comfortable going (I.e the neighbor’s yard, closer to the highway we live by). I’ve tried luring him with a high value treat but he absolutely refuses to budge. I’ve tried calling him and being really excited and even trying to run to get him to come but he will NOT budge sometimes. I let him sniff the air or whatever has his attention for a minute or so to satisfy his curiosity but even then he doesn’t respond. He has gotten a little better but it’s still a struggle. Any suggestions?
Oh man do i hear ya. My great perynese just flops over literally and won't budge if he doesn'twant to go in a direction, wants to stop, or wants a different direction. I can either look like a fool dragging him along or up (I wouldn't don't worry lol) or stand there for 5/10 minutes until he is ready to getup and continue. Would loooove to stop that behavior
How would you change it up if your dog is not as willing to follow the lure when outside? My dog is great at the lure inside but outside he is not interested in treats at all.

Kona is so smart to associate that clicker with a treat. It's taking a bit longer for my cat to make that connection.
zak's kick game is super fresh
Amazing. Really needed this video
Love your content Zak! Thanks for helping everyone in the world be better dog parents!!

Inertia is such a good name for a high energy dog!
