"The amount of gold you pick up along the way does little other than determines how nice your grave ends up looking" I don't know if you MEANT this to be a philosophical truth, but it ended up like one!
Wow nothing in Young Indiana Jones looks like human beings moving. That’s the most hilarious game footage you’ve shot since the Speccy port of the Mega Drive soccer game.
7:42 I must say, the image of Sonic the Hedgehog running up to a mirror image of himself and just decking him is pure gold. Like a tramp who's had too much special brew and picks a fight with own reflection in a shop window. "Wot you lookin' at?! Fuggin' 'av it ya blue bastard!"
Can - Can we like.... give _Jammit_ some kind of award for that back of the box blurb? I mean, calling the NBA the "Nerds and Babies Association" is *objectively AMAZING writing* 😆😆😆
Something i only noticed by now about that Woody Woodpecker game. The name is "Férias Frustradas", what is "Frustrated Vacation" in English; it is a reference to the title they gave here to National Lampoons Vacation, "Férias Frustradas". And since its a comedy they tought if the title was kinda hard to say with the alliteration, it would be funny if someone slips and says it wrong. In the end its a joke probably nobody noticed. As i said, i just noticed this year and for anyone out of Brazil it gets lost in translation.
Great to see Zero get some love. I remember renting this as a kid for reasons unknown to me at the time but I had such an awesome time with it. Couldn't find it in any shops though sadly. Quite an obscure game but a genuinely fantastic platformer
Have you ever had the chance to play any of these titles? Have you ever been lost in a Fatal Labyrinth, or dealt with a strong case of Super High Impact? Have a shout in the comments, and thanks for watching. :)
I have to say that fatal labyrinth is pretty enjoyable. A good commuter game - get lost in a dungeon for half an hour, knowing you're never really going to beat it and the RNG won't be in your favour. With this mind set it works well
I stumbled upon this channel a year ago and it's been my favorite gaming RUclips channel ever since! There's something that pulls me in here more so than on any other channel. Keep up the great work :)!
That young Indy game looks like such a missed opportunity! Some neat graphics tricks in that iceberg/lake hopping bit, and the unique whip weapon/traversal ability - looks like there was a interesting core there that got rushed out with zero QC or refinement, that and well, the series it's based off not lasting. RIP River Phoenix!
You know, I’ve been curious about Joust on the Genesis through William’s Arcade Hits, and it makes me happy seeing Kim Justice cover how it was possible! I mean BEFORE MAME?!?! WOW!! That was actually my first exposure to Joust-my FAVORITE Golden Age Arcade Game!
31:47 sorry Kim but this on screen bit had me in absolute stitches for a solid few minutes. I am sorry you had to endure this but it did bring me a hearty joyful laugh so thank you.
Instruments of Chaos has at least the bonus of being hilariously bad. It's not boring bad, at least not the first time you play it (on an emulator. If you were to pay money for it, then 'funny bad' is still a very poor use of $45-50) But watching someone else try to play it is like watching a good silent slapstick film, because everything goes SO wrong. It's beautiful in that respect.
Missed this video when you posted a few months back, missed out on some gold here! That Jammit blurb was brilliant 😂 and ill definitely be checking out that squirrel game after a recommendation from the justice!
i still have not tried Robotron for the Genesis but i trust ya that it plays good and i'll be getting around to playing it some day. Trampoline Terror is a game i'd like to have made into an improved part 2.
Ive been a good fan of Fatal Labyrinth for a long while now. It's the proto mystery dungeon exploration game ive always loved. Its game gear counterpart Dragon Crystal has a good but better additions.
Férias Frustradas do Pica-Pau is definitively a sight. I like how they went through the effort of doing the little cartoon intro and all but yeah... not a game worthy of the courtesy of the "Replay Instantâneo".
That Sonic Eraser music, though. I don't know whether to give them credit for trying to be experimental and make the equivalent of video game soundtrack noise album, or just pray for my tinnitus to drown it all out. As for Woody Woodpecker, you got to give credit to the Brazilians on this one. They're such big fans of the character that they pay tribute to him by making a shite video game and an even more shite movie. Actually played that for a little bit once and it drove me madder than when Woody was trying to get those BUTTERSCOTCHIE FINGER PIES!!!!!
I discovered Fatal Labyrinth on the Ultimate Genesis/MD collection on the 360, and was surprised to find a pretty early console roguelike. It's pretty addictive!
Hey! Seeing Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel and Fatal Labyrinth get some good attention makes me smile And Instruments of Chaos gets the proper bloody Kim kicking it so deserves
If you’re still thinking about which games to cover in part 3: Tintin in Tibet is an ABYSMAL game! The first 3 levels involve having to dodge people who walk (even though they have no intention of harming you!) or you’ll die, all the levels after that are frustrating as hell, there’s no combat of any kind, it’s based on a Tintin story that’s not cut out to be made into a game and the difficulty level is unforgiving! VGRetro reviewed it back in 2009 and I am still shocked by his words regarding it! Its Nintendo/PC follow up Prisoners of The Sun is no better, maybe even worse! Pretty shocking when you consider both games come from Infogrames, whose Smurfs games (except 3 2 1 Smurf on the PlayStation) are rather good!
I used to play the hell out of Dragon Crystal on SMS, very similar to Fatal Labyrinth, mainly because it was one of the first 2 carts I ever hard, but also because it was just calming fun.. Edit: I may have posted this comment before you mentioned the SMS game, heh
Not familiar with Fatal Labyrinth but I DID play Dragon Crystal a lot back in the day, and I haven't played a rogue-like since... because Inknow I just get mega-mad when I die.
Quite an interesting selection of obscure games. I admit I avoided Fatal Labyrinth back in the day because of its simple graphics and randomly generated dungeons. I knew nothing about Rogue or that style of game at the time. I'll have to check it out sometime.
Great Vid Kim. Are you sure Trampoline Terror only got released in the USA? I have a copy of it somewhere(live in Europe). I believe as a kid we picked it up as an ex-rental(could have been imported though, but I remember it being a tiny store so seems like a lot of effort) . going through a move atm so when I find it, I'll let you know. Ill unpack my games tomorrow.
Yeah, for sure. It wasn't uncommon for imports to be kicking around rental shops and the like back then, mind - I remember my local had various games marked "Genesis" as well as Japanese copies of Sonic and Golden Axe.
@@Kim_Justice Just googled the cover and you are 100% correct. who would have thought a tiny shop did imports... :D thanks for the response. Is the Mega Drive II region free or did it never have any copy protection? Or did it just run slower because its a PAL system?
I don't think too many MD games in the system's first couple of years were region locked at all - I think it's around 1992 where you start to get more of them?
@@Kim_Justice yeah cause the more I was thinking about it, the more I was like why did it run on a stock MD? Wasn't like the PS1 that over here got sold pre-modded 😂
I think of TJ&E as more of a roguelite because of the setting and having lives while Labyrinth is much more about classic dungeon crawling. It's close though and I probably should have mentioned it
I'd like to see a Young Indy and Earnest Evans crossover. Then again, I'm also the type of guy that wanted to see a Sabu/Sin Cara Hell in the Cell match.
I don't know, the little you played of Sonic Eraser's music sounded alright to me. Then again, I have a soft spot for the Genesis'/Mega Drive's twangy music. So, I'm probably not the best judge.
Greendog is an enjoyable game when i play it. 🤷 oh wow, youre damn right man, that game is not bad at all as some people exaggerate and i understand it wont be outstanding or above average to people but Fatal Labyrinth is a good decent game with its own unique gameplay with fun to be had.
although High Impact is better on the S.N.E.S. having more of the arcade elements that the Gen/M.D. version is missing, i prefer what graphic is there on SEGA's console.
People will get offended by anything these days. How can you possibly be offended by Zero's moves? Especially while saying you like the game! I know he has a lot more abilities than a standard platform game but i would definitely not call it offensive!
I've played a few levels and really enjoyed it and may go back today instead of playing the Mario World hack I had just started! I will also be researching whether you have any reason to be so offended and upset by his glides and double jumps!
Zero is a good Gen game but its one of those like i get it was ported from the S.N.E.S. but common SEGA, so improve upon the game instead of it being a just tad better on the S.N.E.S. 🙄
You can tell when a brit is talking about football games because they are always clueless. Talking about the only game worth play is madden like the Joe Montana sports talk series wasn't a huge franchise on the genesis.

Young Indiana Jones gives off serious "Super Castlevania IV at Home" vibes.
What if Castlevania IV but the only attack available is the lame whip?

Like most Brits of the right age in the 90s I was 100% sega (well and Amstrad). Played plenty, but not many of these!

The level of vindication I'm feeling for Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel getting ranked that high is absolutely off the charts.

Kim, I'm ecstatic to see you giving Fatal Labyrinth the love it deserves.
Personally I really didn't liked it... But one cool thing I liked in this game was talking to the people in the village at the beginning of the game.
