That's cool and all but I would argue that if a game crashes and corrupts your save file, it is a slight concern... But I'm with you on that games don't have to perform perfectly with 60fps and the highest resolutions to be enjoyable. Game breaking bugs is where I draw the line though.

My Skyrim Journey in a short story:
It started with the Skyrim save debacle on PS3. If you want a character past level 42ish...TOO BAD SAYS "The Todd." Then an update basically made my PS3 disc drive faulty. It was perfect with zero issues ever until immediately after an update, and then it malfunctioned half of the time. I limped it to gamestop to trade in for the new PS4. My first game "Assassin's Creed Unity" was a broken mess on new system and required 20 GB or more in updates. I became a PC gamer shortly after and never looked back. I love "Nolvus" Skyrim. The "other" became a glorified bluray player and MLB: The Show only.

My PS3 Skyrim Save File bricked at level 34. I was a Stealth Archer and I remember it clearly because I realized first between my friends how important Enchanting was. That + Stealth Archer made me the only one who could progress the game on Master Difficulty. The game bricket when I was in Whiterun training smithing. I stillown it and bought it day 1. graphics were 'mind blowing' until around 10 hours in where you had to restart the game every 30 mins to reset the lag/shit fps.
Been playing on PC since 2013, and now in 2023 replaying again with a 4090 and like 200+ mods + enb @ 4k. Crazy how well this card handles this game. Can push 120+ fps easily but physics starts to break, seems engine wasn't meant to go beyond 60 fps. I was on a 970 for 10 years and couldn't even handle an enb without being at a 30-40 fps with decent mods @ 1080p. Temps at average as well, same goes for fan speeds. Only game thats cracked it up to the max has been cyberpunk with Path Tracing and even then still getting 80 fps average at 4k
Sort of want to dust off my PS3 and hook up to my 4k and even 1080p I originally played it on to spot the differences xD.
Especially that mushroom area in the game. Forgot what it was called but I t was a huge underground area with a bunch of blue growing mushrooms. Was mind blown back when I played on PS3

I grew up with the Xbox 360 version, and for the longest time, i was actually playing it on a Xbox 360 Slim without the Hard Drive, so it was only running on internal storage. Yet the whole time it worked fine. Now my Xbox 360 does have a Hard Drive, and i’ve been trying it out again for nostalgia, and games not Backwards Compatible with newer Xbox consoles. So far it has been running just fine, but for some reason i couldn’t find my original character on my old profile, no clue why i would’ve deleted it. (unless i put it on another storage device i later used on my Xbox One, i had to format the memory so it could work)
To this day it runs Skyrim just fine. Consistent 30FPS, which actually feels better than a dipping 60fps on other games. I also made a lot of saves on my old character before i got the hard drive and the game never deteriorated. Somehow though, it runs better when my Xbox 360 isn’t struggling to connect to internet (it barely can, Wi-Fi speed horrible, downloads take until the day Jesus returns, and i get signed in and out of Xbox Live). I was wondering why i was playing at 20fps for a while, and i didn’t remember it running this bad. Then as soon as it said i was disconnected from online, i felt like i was playing a next gen title lol.
Besides internet issues, Xbox 360 runs amazing right now even though it collected a shit ton of dust and smears i never cleaned up even when I actively used it. It’s just annoying when i have to re-update games that are on the storage device i formatted, and because of the shit Wi-Fi speed, it can take from as short as 20 minutes, to literally half a day. I’m serious, Minecraft Story Mode Season 2 literally took half the day to install while sounding like a nuclear meltdown you could hear from the hallway. Only for me to have to install the episodes too, and when they finally installed they didn’t even install correctly so i couldn’t even play them. Luckily i found an Xbox One copy though that’s usable.
(how did i go from what Skyrim platform i grew up with to everything about the Xbox 360?)

All the Bethesda games were ticking time bombs on PS3, thats how i first experienced most of them.
Fallout 3 had a glitch that would cause the loading screen to "tick" forever. It happened to me at Tenpenny Tower which was my residence.
New Vegas was majorly unstable, I dont think i was able to get through everything without a few important things breaking.
Skyrim gradually degraded over time, usually by the time your dragonborn was a G the game would shamelessly break down to lower single digit numbers and the very seams of the game would break.

I'm currently running Skyrim on an SSD on PS3 Super Slim. I'm going to do my best to commit to a full playthrough. So far, I've actually been enjoying myself. There are still frame rate issues in some areas but so far the loading times have been decent. I probably won't know about the bugs until way later.
Strangely enough, The Xbox 360 playthrough that i was playing keeps crashing so I gave up on it lol.

    • @necromax13
      @necromax13 11 месяцев назад +3

having the SSD and running the game from the SSD would help a lot. The problem with the ps3 as opposed to the 360 is that while it has roughly the same amount of ram (512mb), it's divided in two chunks, one for ram and the one for vram (as opposed to the 360 which had straight up 512 mb unified). Skyrim squeezes everything out of the ram, and with savefiles being so awfully optimized on bethesda games (they definitely didn't need to be that large at the time lol), the ps3 runs out of ram quickly when also needing to have that savefile loaded in.

If for some reason you want to do a playthrough of Skyrim on the PS3 in 2024 I highly suggest that you:
    1) Do not use a FAT PS3 model.
    2) Upgrade to an SSD.
    3) Play the digital PSN version or pirate it with CFW, absolutely avoid using the blu-ray drive.
    4) Install all the game updates.
    5) Turn autosave off.
Then your experience will pretty much be stellar without any of the problems mentioned in the video. I know because I do play it right now.

Playing the PS3 version without the Autosave feels like you are running on an SSD when it comes to loading times as someone who got the Platinum trophy and the DLC trophies for the game back in 2019. But God help you if you forgot to save and then the Infinite loading screen hits you, you'll lose sometimes 1-2 hours of progress. Heck, it would crash the console because of it.

  • @sunnyssundries

The PS3 had an unorthodox Hardware architecture, not Software. Further most problems you describe were fixed in 2012 with patch 1.04. Not all, but most. If you do not take my word for it, there is an article from IGN…and that guy used a 13 Mbyte save file
Look for Skyrim's PlayStation 3 Fix: Does it Actually Work? on the internet.
Sometimes you have to be patient. Some RPGs age like wine, see the Witcher 3, or Cyberpunk 2077.

I am probably one of the few people here that have only played Skyrim on PS3. I've spent hundreds upon hundreds of hours on this version so I have plenty of experience with the problems.
The PS3 version of this game is probably THE most broken game on PS3 aside from New Vegas. One common minor fix to the crashing is to turn off all autosaves and to never sprint when traveling the open world. Even then, there is still spots in the world that will 100% crash your game. One notorious area actually being right outside Whiterun. Keep in mind this is all exclusive to the PS3.
The framerate is atrocious from start to finish of a playthrough. The more you play, the worse it gets. The loading times get worse over time as well. The questbreaking bugs are far more prevalent as well. After around 100 hours into a playthrough, (Around Level 50), the game becomes completely unplayable, especially if you are doing the DLCs.
I do not know how all these years I put up with it. It really has to be played to believed.

Its amazing they could even get it playable on PS3 with 256mMb of Ram, I wish PS3 had been Ram upgradable.
I believe a modestly sized SSD may have been an option 2 or 3 years after launch to improve load speeds.

Dawnguard broke my game and I have all of the Achevements in it except for the Werewolf and Vampire skill tree related ones. 400 plus hours on the PS3 version alone. lol. Sure I had a few crashes and other things like the Blood on the Ice glitch where that Necromancers Amulet can get stuck in ones inventory if you mess up that quest. PlayStation players have always gotten the short end of things when it comes to Bethesda titles. Later got the game on PC and had a much better experience. Still feel bad about all of my friends who still play Bethesda games on PS.

I strongly disagree with the kids are spoiled with their SSDs part, because even with NVMe SSDs, Starfield takes absolute ages to load from one instanced area to another. It really has me thinking if it's the secondary storage medium, or Bethesda have no idea how to efficiently load areas and content properly.
