My fiance and I gave up drinking a week after your video at the start of December and have never felt better! Thank you for inspiring us to try living alcohol free!
2 weeks in. I've known for a long time that my life won't get started until I quit. This is starting off as Dry January but I really hope it is forever.
I’m also 2 years sober and it’s been game changing. 42 years young now. The scariest thing for me is looking back and realising how naive I was not understanding how much of a negative impact alcohol was having an every aspect of my life. I was existing at 50% of *my* potential, and now I think I’m at 90%. The best bit is, I’m still improving and ‘recovering’ from 2 decades of regular drinking. Life is getting better not inevitably worse like it was as a drinker.
As a fellow healthcare professional, I really admire what you have done and what you’re doing. You are an inspiration. I kind of feel a part of your team 💪🏼 😆
After spending 2024 being sick in ubers, hungover for work, constantly embarrased by what i said and did and also very often driving - Its time to stop. Finding it a strange place to navigate but learning a lot and Enjoying it so far. Started by not drinking on Christmas eve could drive to see three different groups of friends and still be home in bed and up early for Christmas - same for New years. Feels like ive got a super power!
I quit smoking weed over a month ago and stopped drinking two weeks ago. I wasn’t a heavy drinker-maybe 5-6 beers a week-but it left me feeling tired and depressed. Now, I have way more energy, I feel so much better, and I’ve even started eating healthier. Everything just feels clearer and happier now. I'm proud of myself for making these changes. I know sobriety won’t always be easy, but I’m committed to not going back. This is my chance to learn how to handle life with a clear mind, and I’m ready for it!
I’m considering giving up alcohol. My daughter took her life in November, she is 21. I’m reaching for the bottle and I know I need to find healthier ways to manage my life now
So sorry for your loss and grief … I hope you can be kind to yourself and not let the alcohol rob your precious memories. I understand when I’m exhausted I need a drink but it leaves me restless. I like the idea Dr Alex suggested, concentrate on something you’ll gain if you get rid of booze! 🫶♥️
I am so sorry for your loss. Alcohol brings short term relief but ultimately (in my grief experience) amplifies the pain overtime. You can do this. I promise it does get better ❤
Oh and also wanted to say welcome to all of you who have recently subscribed, its awesome to have you as part of the community, I am really looking forward to making content for you all this year ❤
Stumbled across your videos around end of December, and I’ve decided to quit alcohol in 2025. Been sober for 5 days 😅, will continue. Thank you for what you are doing.
6 days in today. I have been meaning to quit for the last three years. As for someone living with ADHD, I hope this time round I leave this bane of my existence behind! 😩 So tired of alcohol. I don't understand how alcohol is glorified across the globe. Love from Kenya. 🇰🇪
Thanks Alex I am 6 months along now and I would never give up my new benefits of losing my anxiety, getting a deep sleep, better workouts, more wiggle room with keeping my calories in check, loads of spare disposable income! I was averaging £500 per Month.
Wow. Point 3 made me quite emotional, to really consider how much precious time has been lost to drinking. So grateful for your wisdom and for your courage to share it with us all online. Your videos are so inspiring and encouraging. Thank you ❤
Thank you for your advice. I haven't had a drink for over 10 years. I can't remember the taste or the smell. When I made that decision, my life changed forever.😊❤
Seems there's a few of us have quit since 1st Jan so BIG SHOUT OUT to every 1 on a new adventure 🗣 💪 & respect to those who are further along.👏👏 Thanks for the encouragement 👍
I'm 7 days clean and substance free and finding your channel is lightening my fire and focus even more. Thank you so much and wish you all the best on your journey & 2025 :)
Brilliant video. Im on my 3 week sober. Best Christmas ive had remember every bit of it plus not waking up hanging and doing productive things with the family is priceless making memories you remember you can't put a price on that. A clear mind & body. Drink is the great remover. It will remover the stains from your clothes and the carpet from under your feet. He's to a sober 25 . Good luck everyone.
Alcohol does nothing for me anymore - as in I have to drink a huge amount to feel ‘as drunk’ as I used to after a couple of drinks. Going out or having a party at home and realising i’ve had 10-15 drinks and feel like I used to after 3 or 4 when I was 18 has really pushed me to quit. I don’t feel addicted, I only drink every couple of weeks, but when I do I have a huge amount and feel horrible for days. 2025 is gonna be an alcohol free year for me and i’m looking forward to it.
Alex what a blessing to happen upon your videos. I need to stop my wine binges. You nailed so many key points in this video and 2 yr sober. Today PJ begins her sober days. 🎉😂
What an enjoyable listen - everything you said is so spot on to how I feel. I’m 23 and I quit last month. Alcohol also led me to consume other drugs that would absolutely annihilate my Sundays and the couple days after at work and in the gym in terms of being at my full potential. I feel just absolutely amazing now, what you said about it being like running with a heavy backpack on is so true. Thanks for the video Alex, just subscribed🙂
Alex you talk about such wonderful things and every one of your videos is truly inspiring They genuinely help a lot of people You are such a❤❤❤ lovely and kind person I really love you I always wait eagerly for your posts and videos to come
Doctor Alex I'm so happy for you that you quit alcohol and you doing amazing job for the mental health awarenes .I remember I started watching your channel from 2020 i enjoy the way you explain..
91 days today for me. I feel incredible. I hope improvements keep coming. Ine day at a time. Surviving Christmas and my birthday was hard but i keep going to social events to make sure i dont become a hermit. Only thing im worried about is gpinb abroad. Japan next Oct for two week. Nervous
I'd recommend taking up some new habits to gain some new social groups. I've taken up running for example. If someone's only going to accept you for something that you don't want to be (and something that could harm your own mental health at that) then that's not OK. I've still got most of my friends from before but there are a couple I've chosen not to spend time with.
@@ttp-s4c They are friends though, it’s just that they drink and it’s normal for them so they’re sad their friend doesn’t want to drink with them. They think that I think I’m better than them or something. I won’t drop my friends. It will just take them time to understand which is frustrating
I gave up 3 years ago, with my partner, we don’t miss it now. If I had my life again I wouldn’t have bothered starting. Hangovers are so tedious, they affect your work, performance, health and mental health. Alcohol I realise now, for me, got in the way of everything. Now it’s gone the days are so straightforward. And Alcohol free beers are truly agreeable. And I only ever want one all evening. Because alcohol was a drug, it kept me wanting more. Anyway it’s gone. I found it easier to give up than smoking. I craved Cigarettes on and off for a few years after I gave up. Best and most important thing is my sleep patterns, they are far more settled now.
Great stuff! I'm doing 100 days and definitely would love some tips on fighting the urges when mates are saying "f*ck it lets just have some pints" and so on. It's pretty incredible how quickly all socialising becomes drink oriented as we grow up. I'm about the same age as you so I'm sure you can relate. There was definitely a time in our lives where it wasnt all about that, so I'm trying to get that back in some way. So some tips on alternative activities and fighting those bs urges would be great. Well done and thanks 👌
I told my mate I would come out but I’m not drinking and he didn’t want to hang out anymore 😂 you really realise things about your relationships when you quit
You might keep a note in your wallet that says “yes to…” and lists the things you’re saying yes to, whatever that means to you. For me, it’s authenticity, fabulous mental and physical health, great restorative sleep, fantastic energy/mitochondrial health, a balanced nervous system, etc. We aren’t just saying no to alcohol, we’re saying YES to all of those things and more.
Great video…you explain important information eloquently & concisely…but also with a good level of relatability. Looking forward to learning lots through your videos! 👍
I just happened to gradually cut down, nearly quit drinking during the weekdays in the past 6 weeks. My drinking during the week would usually consist of 1-2 light beers after work on weekdays, to have with dinner or to wind down after a stressful work day. I rationalized this was harmless as it wasn't like I was drinking 2 straight whiskeys a day. Quitting during the week, wasn't a conscious decision but just happened indirectly due to daily pattern changes brought on by renovations to my place. I no longer feel totally worn out by 3-6pm each day and I can feel myself not thinking as negatively...the kind of negative thought cycle that might cause me to drink. And friends have noticed my skin is clearer and I don't have that usual cynical edge about me in my interactions. While I have no immediate plans yet to quit moderate social drinking, like having 1-2 drinks over dinner with friends, I see that happening at the rate I'm going.
It’s a pity some people feel it has to be all or nothing. As always MODERATION is the key word here. If you can train or teach yourself to enjoy and be satisfied with a glass or perhaps two of wine to accompany your evening meal without feeling the need to finish off the whole bottle and consider even opening a second then surely that’s the answer. It’s the same with almost everything if you think about it. Fancy a steak ? Have one, just don’t consume red meat every other day! Fancy that slice of highly calorific cake? Have it, just don’t eat the entire cake! You get my point. Only things I would completely refrain from our drugs and smoking. Other than that, go for it, just be sensible and moderate! Life is too darn short to not enjoy what you enjoy.
It's great if it's something you feel you need to do and it can be empowering and a really positive step if you find your health is affected. I'm 10 months sober. I've not necessarily noticed massive differences yet. Don't feel any healthier to be honest (maybe that will take longer) and it hasn't improved my mental health. I can 100% say that so don't expect a miracle. I'm staying sober because it's a complete behaviour/life change now that i'm used to and hoping some of my anxiety will lessen over time. I think i gave up thinking i'd feel so much better overnight and initially felt worse. Giving up can be difficult if the people around you aren't supportive and people shouldn't feel guilted into it as a resolution. Give it a go if you feel you need to, but definitely not because of pressure from others or just because it's the start of a year. Try to be realistic and set the small goals, set yourself up to succeed and don't be disheartened if you struggle with it ❤
Thank you for sharing your honest experience. I found I had to go through hell (mental health wise) to get to the ‘better’ place, but through the hard work and going through all of that, it allowed me to get better. If that makes sense?
@@DrAlexGeorge it does make sense. I will be better healthwise on the inside, I guess it's waiting for my mental health to catch up! Hoping your year brings you more health and happiness ❤
Hey Alex. Would you mind walking us through your timeline. Let us know what it was like from like day 1 through to month 6 for example. You've been an inspiration and I'm currently trying to follow in your foot steps and you did mention at month 6 is when there was a big turning point in another video but don't think you covered what that was. Much appreciated ❤
Ironic I came across this video today because I decided that today (February 1st 2025) I’m giving up alcohol for the month (28 days). I’m not a heavy drinker just constant, each day, and in intend going back to enjoying my scotch and a cigar but only once or twice a week. Looking forward to it as I can see the benefits of better health and productivity even by cutting back. Best of luck everyone for 2025.
I decided to do the dry January, so far it's not as hard as thought it would be, but it's not easy either. I still don't know if I'll make the effort to quit altogether, but a part of me kind of feels like I should.
Quick one What kind of drinker did you fall under. Occasionally. Weekend worrier, heavy, daily??? I've tried to stop but feel back after 8m. Only few pints on Friday, Saturday. The problem is I like the taste but I don't think it's affecting me. I'd like to cut it out . Would the benefits be seen
I am going to go without drinking for the whole year, and I do not think it will be a big challenge because I am not a very regular drinker and have gone multiple months without alcohol many times before. But since I realised I really dont like the person I am while drinking I do feel like it is important to give it some rest for a longer time. I am really focusing on my health this year as well. Moneywise I only think I spend about 300 pounds each year give and take on alcohol so it is not that bad. But I really need to stop buying take out because that- and previously energy drinks (which I have been able to give up since october)- has really been where lots of my money go. But not spending money on alcohol will definetly be saving me alot of money over time:) sorry if there is alot of bad spelling- english is not my first language😅
I've started my sober journey but I do wrestle with the idea of having a single whiskey at Xmas as I always have done. But the worry is it's going to ruin the following weeks. Will it?
I spent at most / worst on £150 a month and £30 at best that was for alcohol, clubbing related stuff, travel, take aways / meal after club plus maybe £10 or £20 for the outfit on top of it if that counts. So on avg 10-30% of my income a month went on alcohol related things. Sense quitting I saved on avg 2% of my income now instead plus by better food bc I’m a gym rat 😅
Hey team! Really hope this video helps. As always please share your experience and journey in the comments. It helps others (and me) ❤
I love u dear doctor so much,u are very positive man also! 😂❤

Thank you so much for your feedback 💙
Thanks for helping me through this!
I am happy to help ❤
Very inspirational young man. I'm going to give it a go
Brain fog, paranoia and anxiety were a driving factor is significantly reducing my alcohol intake
hi alex, you’ve really helped me and this is an amazing video thankyou so so much, been sober for a few months now and planning to never drink again 👍
i want to be well and good for my future children as well and i know this is best decision for them
Do you still get cravings? I´m only weeks in and I feel so bad for them!
Well done you 💙
@@jameswingad3212christmas was difficult as i missed that super happy feeling high- but i knew ultimately it was the best decision for me 👍🫶

Hi Alex, hello from NYC! Great video. Here's to a great 2025!
Thank you! Love to NYC 💙
I love u dear doctor and I can not wait from u something reply!
Hi Alex, Great 2025. God bles you.
Te amaré el resto de mi vida.
this is so nice! really inspiring
Thank you so much!
Amazing video as always
Thanks again!
Cheers dude! You are the man!
Thank you!!
6 days and counting 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Awesome 🙌🏼
Hey Ross! Thank you for the suggestion, perhaps I do a first months alcohol free video to cover those D1 through to 6ms? 💙
@DrAlexGeorge that'd be super helpful ❤️
Easy. Done.
Happy New Year from the Philippines!
Happy new year!!
usually drink 1-2 times a week, lots on those days. cutting it out none since the 1st
❤
Love you 😍 ❤
Amazing video 💚
Thank you :)
I decided to do the dry January, so far it's not as hard as thought it would be, but it's not easy either. I still don't know if I'll make the effort to quit altogether, but a part of me kind of feels like I should.
Great video as always 👍
Thanks again! 💙
I'm about 1 week in, small steps for me I've struggled to go past a month before takes the edge off after work, need to find a replacement
Exercise. Cold shower. Get your dopamine naturally!
Its really important to replace the alcohol with positive things - exercise, people, hobbies. Otherwise it leaves a hole!
@@DrAlexGeorgethanks I'm still going and feeling positive
Thank you for sharing 🫰
You are so welcome
Quick one
What kind of drinker did you fall under.
Great video.
Thank you!
I've started my sober journey but I do wrestle with the idea of having a single whiskey at Xmas as I always have done. But the worry is it's going to ruin the following weeks. Will it?
Interesting topic!
Thank you!!
I'm determined to stop drinking and smoking weed, but I'm afraid escaping to sugar drinks will be my greatest weakness
One step at a time ❤
That financial part makes me cringe because I probably spent $10-12k a year on alcohol
Its crazy isn’t it. When we are honest with the numbers its frightening.
Im 57 days in. My adhd has kept me drinkin. Hope this time i wont go back at it.
You can do it 👊
Day 6
Awesome ❤
I hope everyone has a beautiful sober 2025. Big year ahead! I hope the added productivity brings people closer to achieving their dreams :)
Love it 💙
Just my husband and my daily drinking I've worked out at £1140 a year. That's without drinking at meals out or wine for dinner parties.
Crazy isn’t it!
AF for 5 days. Feeling positive and happy
Same here!
5 days sober. Today will be 6. Let’s see where this journey takes me!
Thats awesome! Keep us updated
Money spent on health is well spent IMO ❤
Happy new year i hope you are always sukses its me Mimi restu
🎉Happy New Year
Happy new year 🎆
@DrAlexGeorge All the best, Dr. Alex

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hai i hope you are always healthy

I had ever been alcohol, about three time but I don't like so I will never try any more😅

6.50 for a pint? I lived in the UK around 8 years ago and I remember I used to pay around 2.50 for a pint. 6.50 is insane.
