I will never understand the depth of the compassion and humanity the author felt for the enemy....by creating a sympathetic character in Bruno....when she herself fell victim to their regime and their insane cruelty.
Because maybe she knew that not all of them were cruel. If you could go back in time you would’ve found a lot of them did not like Hitler, yes there was so many of them that were cruel but I bet you could go back and find some of them that had a heart. Ironic I know. One of the women in the film stated how some of their own men were just as worse, when it came to morals and that is also true.
@@gaylakenney9947 well said! I recently read another book...Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Some pages had me ranting abt the atrocities commited by the occupying German forces and some pages made me pity them as they struggled for resources when they were besieged and cut off from resources.

I'm done watching this beautiful film,i feel inlove with their character.Lucille and Bruno is in love with each other but they need to hide their feelings because of the situation.The unspoken love😢sad ending.

I liked this movie, cause I have feeling that not only WE are in such situation that we have to choose between patriotism, homeland and love. It's so unbelievable that in 21-t century I live kind of situation. I indescribably HATE WAR!!!!!!

Indeed the author couldn't finish the book but her personal notes about the story were found and Bruno was going to die IN Russia and Lucy would suffer and fall in love with the son of Michaud (they're not in the movie).
