You can physically feel the autotune in some of the parts in the english Karaoke songs. Guess most eastern VAs are vocally trained for singing as well.
Nothing beats the original Japanese VA, in the voice acting and definitely not in the karaoke.

I'm pretty sure most Japanese VAs also dabble in singing, yeah. I'm not sure if it's all of them, but a fair amount of talent agencies in Japan also do singing auditions so they have more opportunities to do musical roles and whatnot. Helps them secure more rolls and whatnot.
It also helps that the JP team did a better job at audio engineering, i'm guessing since they've been doing these karaoke songs for about 15 years, and you can barely tell they use pitch correction. Then you see the US dub where the audio engineering team was either non-existent, or didn't know what they were doing to try and correct pitch. Which actually makes performances like Robbie Daymond worse. The dude can sing (see Hell Stew in Y7), but the auto tune completely butchers his performance.
Pardon the rambling; I don't even play dubbed, but if the attempt was going to be this bad, i would've rather they didn't try at all lol.

@@TTParadigm I still appreciate it if only because the translated lyrics are really good, english tonight and hands hit so much harder when you understand what they're singing about, also some of the sillier songs are a lot funnier in english like Summertime Groove (despite the autotune messing up some parts)

alot of japanese professional voice actors are trained in singing as well, you are right. its amazing, especially when you see japanese theme songs sung by the actual voice actor themselves instead of a band or music group. they dont make em like they do in japan. in america, alot of people dont have the chops.

@@PSYCHOraptorBLACKOPS6 it’s more so that voice acting is seen as a “lesser job” in America compared to Japan where it’s on the same level. That’s why they always give a famous comedian or live action actor voice roles in a lot of animated theatrical movies, because they think no one would care about the people who actually do the voice talent. These vas don’t get paid enough for singing lessons, they barely make it by doing the actual voice acting.
Yakuza especially is a series that prides itself on its actors, a good 50% of the important characters are probably live action actors brought in to do voice acting. It wants to be as close to a live action crime drama movie as possible.

Gotta say, the English of this song does not hit nearly as well as the original or even Chinese. The auto-tune is awful and the sentences are really rushed to fit the pacing.
