I don't know what I find more frustrating, the flaws, inaccuracies, and production issues or the many collectors who take it upon themselves to act as corporate apologists, downplaying these problems as if they don't even exist, and labelling those who call-out the bs as being entitled?? Bottom line; these figures are not cheap. It's annoying enough when you find issues like this (asymmetrical eyes ffs!!) on a NECA, but these are £300+ 'collectibles'. It's brands like Hot Toys who supposedly set exceptional standards, aiming for movie accurate, well made "masterpiece" figures. Just because they achieve their objectives more often than not, it doesn't mean we should stay silent when they don't.
I strongly agree with your last point. No matter how well you think they’ve made figures in the past, or even if you think this particular figure is mostly well done, you should be able to critique it.
In terms of this figure I can only speak from my experience. The only thing that frustrates me about the critics of this figure is that their some of the same influencers that gave so much praise to the black suit. Don’t get me wrong, this figure has a lot of issues. But in my opinion, besides the masked sculpt which is 👎👎, this figure looks more accurate to NWH than that figure looked to Spider-man 3.
The Hot Toys apologists are definitely the most frustrating part of all this.

Hot toys is really disapointing... The competition is now doing better for the same price range (between 400 and 600). It's time for them to get their act together and offer us quality.
Thunder Toys got the mask closer to this. That should not happen.
They know there is no competition when it comes to Marvel hence why you got a great figure with The Batman where they do

Well there better be a tomorrow if they want those mask issues fixed. I agree that the mask definitely could have been better, but as long as HT is fixing the mistake I can wait a little longer to get mine.
I think the dark mark on the back of the head is glue from the mask leaked through. The older original amazing spiderman 2 figure had the same problem

The likeness to Tobey looks great from the front, from the side though it looks like his eyes are a fraction too far forward, and yes, he did look a lot more weathered in the film; his forties as opposed to his early 30's. The physique appears just right to me. Tobey has a long slender neck and quite a large head which can make his body appear small in comparison. This wasn't as apparent during his original trilogy because he had more bulk back then. Your natural light footage does a fine job in showing this figure off.

Well then I guess I'll just stick with my Thunder Toys Spider-Man figure then. Ah well.
figure is disappointing but at least batch 2 onward they fix the placement of the raised webbing for the masked head
I would’ve loved to get this and the goblin figure to represent the first movie but there was too many flaws with this figure in my opinion. Thank you for covering it Dean!
So happy you reviewed this one Dean. This doesn’t satisfy that Tobey itch for me and the prices it is going for on the HK market is shocking !! Hoping hot toys go back to Spider-Man 2 and do the Tobey suit from that movie.

Super great review bro!! Been a fan of your reviews especially for the Batman reviews! I actually love Tobey Spidey, my childhood first Favorite, and All time favorite superhero and that Actor. I'm just disappointed that the NWH uses CGI to Tobey and didn't do justice to his Mask. Especially with this hot toys, that MASK and Neck Seam didn't do justice to this figure. Hopefully 3rd party sculptors can do it or Hot Toys can make a Spider Man 2 or Spider Man 3 2.0 soon with improvements on the suit. Great review Man! 🔥🔥

I'm sorry you've had issues with this figure, always appreciate your honest and thorough reviews. This one was at the top of my priority list, but the final product's just kind of lacklustre to me now... Kinda lost interest, especially after seeing all the other issues people have had. Here's hoping the inevitable 2.0/reissue/whatever in a few years is better 😂
I don't think you'll have to wait for that. From what I've seen and heard HT corrected the mask, I believe that's why Sideshow has delayed the release on theirs. Which I hope is true since mine is coming from there.
You made the body look as good as I've seen Dean. The shoulders have more definition than I thought. The masked head should make Hot Toys rethink production going forward. Most of the effort should have went into this release not these obscure releases like Lightyear. And are you sure the second batch fix has been confirmed? I know Sideshow said they were aware of the problems with the mask but I haven't seen anything from Hot Toys themselves. That stain has no excuse and had to happen before it was packaged. I think the entire thing should be recalled and delayed until they work out all the issues. Like you said, the head underneath the mask is wrong and the prototype looked a lot better. They deserve all the criticism that they've been getting for this.
I do like the head sculpt a lot. That sucks how this turned out. Hopefully, they will have it fixed for you. I wanted Andrew's Garfield, but of course, I had too many on preorder and had to sacrifice some at the time. But I still want him.

It is truly disheartening for collectors to receive such a disappointing product. The masked portrait with that horrendous seam line is absolutely unacceptable, yet they continue to do this time & time again. Collectors should not have to spend their money on these mediocre products. This is precisely why I made the switch to statues and have never regretted it. I have found that statues consistently deliver exceptional quality and are worth every penny. I do appreciate your honest opinions about this figure and the company!
Mine has been delayed about two-three times the last few weeks. I really hope this is the reason. I don’t want that ugly seem or those wonky eyes. Still very excited for it. My all time favorite movie suit
Integrated suit has no exposed neck, Andrew Garfield is from TASM 2 and grey lenses, the masked sculpt on this figure has a weird seam.
If you want the trio you have a lot of custom work to do or additional spending. I’m not stoked about these releases man. Kind of a bummer. Good work though dean
the problem is that they based on the version of the insomniac games outfit instead of the raimi movies or no way home

Best movie suit got the most disappointing figure, his face/mask is perhaps the one thing they needed to nail perfectly and they dropped the ball big time
Not sure which spiderman I'll get anymore for a classic suit, I might stick to Scarlet Spider as the one and only
Edit: forgot about the upcoming black suit, doesn't really count as "classic" but it looks way better, and better Tobey sculpt too
The black suit is arguably worse. It’s literally the same skinny body and same mask.
@@Jimmy-Wex maybe you're new to this brand or hobby, but HT takes this kind of criticism seriously and often feel the need to redeem themselves with the next relevant release, there will be changes

In every figure I've seen and even the Spider-Man ps4 game they always get the head shape wrong for this suit. It should have a narrower head with a more prominent jawline
Those clamps are awful. I used one on my Scarlet Spider. I thought clamping around the fabric vest would be fine, but it now has intents on it on both sides and has made the fabric shiny. There should be an option to loosen them so the tightness doesn't damage the figures.
The prototype headsculp is better
Hope neca do a 1/4th scale figure of this. Neca wont fk it up like hot toys. Just a wonky paint job lol!

That’s really unfortunate and disappointing from Hot Toys. Glad I held off on ordering this guy and I’ll see if I can pick up a second batch version down the line to pair up with my goblin. That neck seam really bugs me as well though. Ah man such a shame

Then they’d look even worse… those are video game graphics. If they go plastic for live action it kinda defeats the whole purpose behind realism
Personally for what they are costing nowadays the quality is disgusting half the parts fall off due to bad quality they are almost impossible to display in dynamic poses without damaging the figure and hot toys headsculpts for me I think haven't improved that much at all I recently finally bought the predator 2 City hunter opened the figure and the battery compartment was corroded rusted and hot toys had left old batteries in the figure a good example of the lack of care and attention.

The only saving grace for this figure is the Tobey Maguire head sculpt, which looks really good. Other than that, this is a very disappointing release on the part of Hot Toys. Comparing this figure to the previously reviewed Batman figure is a difference like night and day in terms of the overall quality. Hot Toys can do a much better job and they know it. They simply choose not to do so. This is inexcusable, unacceptable, and lazy on their part. The figure probably would've been just fine if not for the hideous seam line and the jarring black smudge. Hot Toys charges a premium price for its figures and yet, the quality is far from being premium at times. I honestly have no idea how this figure made its way onto store shelves given its current state. Hopefully, you can get a replacement head sculpt without having to return the entire figure. Hot toys is supposed to be the best of the 1/6 collectables and yet very disappointing lately. For the prices of these things and the freaking time they take this shouldn't be happening. They take nearly 3 years to come out and yet they still have issues.

It will. Its just a repaint of this exact same figure and just changed the logos. They didnt even bother to put it on a bulkier body

Im a very fan of Spiderman and i only have 1 1/6 figure, te advanced suit from de ps4 game, and its because i need some spidey figure, i put the Limtoys John Bubniack head, i hate hot toys materials in those suits and the body proportions are ugly, very innacurated arms (No biceps, no triceps) And figure backs look very bad...
In this figure the body keep the same way and that line in the neck its to big for me.. something to talk about its in the new black suit Hot toys put a scrath in the middle of the spidey head for the Symbiote effects..
So many problems with this figure, they should just wait instead of rushing out the product with issues. Theres no real innovations from Hot Toys and Why can they never match the hands to the suit?!
