- At TMFF 2019 we were honoured to screen the World Premiere of Motorcycle Man, Daniel Lovering's film about motorcycle racing legend Dave Roper.
Roper, has been racing every single year since 1972 and over that time has competed in over 2000 races and walked away with a win in over half of those. In addition to that, in 1984 he became the first American to win at the prestigious Isle of Man TT. To say that he's a race track legend is an understatement.
I caught up with Roper in August at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park ahead of his film's Premiere and what I found is that despite all of his incredible accomplishments and the fans that were clearly awestruck to see him, he was one simple, down-to-earth and humble man.

Any man that not only competes in the TT, but wins the dam thing, instantly has my respect and appreciation of their skills on a motorcycle.
Excellent Interview, Dave...Love to hear your endless WISDOM...Joy and Humour...Thanks..CR
Thanks for the comment Colter.
Met Dave Roper last night and what a nice guy!
Isn't he? So incredibly humble for everything that he's accomplished.
I met Dave this past weekend and he is a genuine guy. Didn't know of his accomplishments until afterwards when someone told me to Google him.
I used to see Dave in the pits at Summit Point back in the nineties when I was racing. He was a quiet guy, always messing with his bikes, as I remember. They were vintage machines and required a lot of fiddling, I guess. He had a kind of light about him, I always thought then...like he was doing exactly what he was put here to do.
Thanks for sharing that story Randy and a great observation. I think you're spot on.
Going to this race is a bucket list item
I watched the Motorcycle Man movie yesterday and then had to look up more on Dave Roper. Nice interview was done here. The Motorcycle Man is inspiring to an OG like me to keep on doing vintage motorcycle stuff. Thanks Mr. Roper!!!
Thanks for those kind words.
Very nice disposition that man has.
Indeed. He is incredibly humble and easy going.
True gentleman, met him @ 2nd Barber Festival, get in way ? normally up front. Some yrs ago his 350 failed to fire, jumped on the 250 & still won ahead of a TZ 350 thro' some seriously skilled riding, frustrating the competition taking back markers leaving the TZ stuck behind for a few seconds...... Experience @ work.
I met Dave in 98 at Pasher's restaurant in Deltona and he knew a guy I had spannered for at the 97 Manx GP top fella.
hmm nice to know Dave did win this amazing race . You have to see it (2022 it will happen again!). By the way i was there as a spectator on 1984 an Yamaha XT 600 Tenere ( 7 .3 gallon fuel tank!) and now I know who one of the winner was .
Thanks for the feedback Erhard.
Thanks for posting interview, such a humble down to earth guy !
Thanks for the comment. Incredibly humble indeed. I'm glad I had a chance to meet him.
