People sometimes forget that Cortes and the conquistadores didn't conquer Mexico on their own... they had thousands of aboriginal allies who flocked to their side to overthrow the Aztec empire

Except maybe they were enemies of the Aztecs, and not aboriginals? And saw a way to gain power? Or were they just like monkeys of the jungle to you? Cortes, a christian who was christian only in name, and I am sure he is in hell If Jesus' words are still something to go by. I am sure they are not in most christians definition of the gospel, though

I have no idea where Cortes is now and I agree with you that many Christians past present are not following the words of Christ. My point was more that history isn't a black and white narrative, it is far more complex and nuanced than the good-evil narratives we tend to feel comfortable with. I think that trying to depict colonizers = evil and colonized = good, is essentially creating such a simplistic narrative.@@beardedskyrim8652

@@Reesorville Do you think Jesus was a fan of colonization? He told us to give everything away if someone asked to have it, he told us to give the other cheek if someone slapped us, he told us to abandon our fathers and mothers if he called upon us, he told us to be wary of preachers and pastors in his name. And he was right. Christianity today is an abomination according to his words, and have been for probably thousand years. Popes, the vatican with child rapings, money grabbing pastors, colonization in the name of christ, slavery in the name of christ. I am an atheist, but if there is a place to go for christians, I have a vague idea what it is. You folks did not follow his word. And I have read them all.

@Egill2011 The war went a little different than you might expect. When Moctezuma II was assassinated, his successor (Cuauhtemoc) led an assault against the Spanish and drove them out of the city. The Spanish weren’t able to use their horses effectively in the narrow streets and they suffered a great loss, so much so that there is a tree known as the tree where Cortez cried. The day is known as “La noche triste”.
They were driven out into the open plains where they were able to use their horses more effectively. Unfortunately Aztecs were never exposed to warfare on horseback and suffered a heavy loss.
From there it went downhill because the Spanish blew up their bridges, leaving them isolated in the lake, and then proceeded to pollute their water supply. They managed to hold out for 2 years but were ultimately defeated.
Thus, I feel it was less about tech and more about the Aztecs having to deal with unconventional warfare. I’m sure they were never exposed to things like using disease as a weapon of war, or horses/formations. The Aztecs were more so involved in raids and scrimmage battles.

@@galadrielwoods2332 Modern excavations in Mexico City have found evidence of human sacrifice in the form of hundreds of skulls at the site of old temples. Other human remains found in the Great Temple of Tenochtitlan contribute to the evidence of human sacrifice through osteologic information along with stone carvings and temple murals. The wounds to the bones match the descriptions that were recorded by Europeans and I highly doubt they went around making murals everywhere just to create a story that nobody would have doubted to begin with. Human sacrifice has been pretty common throughout all of history and in every culture.

Back in the 90s I once purchased an old volume called Prescott's: Conquest of Mexico & Conquest of Peru. At the time my family and I were living in Mexico, in fact, right along the pathway that Cortez had taken to get to Mexico City, so this volume interested me. Prescott was an amazing scholar, learning to read in any number of languages, including Aztec. He researched Aztec literature which recorded much of their culture and history. The footnotes in this book are amazing, as they are in English, Spanish AND Aztec. Like a true scholar Prescott documents what he reports, all the way back to the Aztec priests themselves.
Anyway, I remember reading about the increase in canabalism and human sacrifice. It reached its worse a few years before the Spanish showed up. At one point, because of a drought, the Aztecs sacrificed 40,000 (FORTY THOUSAND) people in the manner described in this video. It took three days to line them all up and cut their hearts out, burning the hearts on a brazier. Where did the Aztecs find this many people to sacrifice? From other tribal groups. This had a lot to do with Cortez' success, when with a tiny force he conquered the Aztecs. Part of his success was due to the fact that many of these other tribal groups allied themselves with him.
There is even an entire state in Mexico called Tlaxcala. The Tlaxcalans were fierce warriors who, unfortunately lived right next door to the Aztec capitol. When the learned of Cortez' plan and his profession of faith in his God, who would give victory, they pledged, not only to join him, but to join with his people. Sure the Aztecs did good things as well as bad. Sure, the Catholics did both good and bad. That's how it is with human beings. The point of the video was that it would be preferable to be under the Christians than under the Aztecs.
Have you ever read any real history of pre-conquest Mexico or of the conquest itself, written by, or at least documented by writings of those who were there?
I only mentioned 3 days out of the history of the Aztec Empire. it has also been documented that Cortés' men, entering into Cholula, which is outside of modern Puebla de Los Ángeles, encountered storehouses full of human skulls, which were what remained of human sacrifices practiced on that site. The estimate, based on shear volume was at least six million skulls. This is documented.
Modern archaeology continues unearth evidence of abundant human sacrifice and cannibalism under both the Aztecs and their predecessors.
I lived for over 8 years near Tula, Hidalgo, where there is an archaeological site and museum. There it was discovered that the Olmecs (predecessors to the Aztecs) would periodically make a treaty with a neighboring tribe, taking one of their young women for a "wife." After a year they would sacrifice her, skin her and stretch her skin over their idol to worship, presumably until they needed another skin....
Do you have such examples documented about the Catholic Church? Canninalism, human sacrifice, and that in the MILLIONS?
Last I checked the average Mexican is 70% indigenous, genetically. That's what happened to the natives in Mexico. They're still there.
Prager U certainly doesn't mind healthy disagreement. But they probably roll their eyes over folk who make broad accusations fail to back them up.

You have to take into account the fact that those Aztec codices were written post conquest, all previous codices were burned by the church. They are very likely embellished to favor the church, because in reality Cortés in fact first raided Tlaxcala and warned them that they would join forces with the Aztecs instead if they didn’t join him in fighting the Aztecs. Also without them, Cortés would not have even survived a skirmish. Cortés only had a couple hundred men, the Aztecs were like 300k strong, and the Spanish would have to funnel themselves through bridges to reach their city so they would’ve easily been picked off, the victory goes to the native tribes

Take note of the bad both sides did, and realize that you are your own person living in the PRESENT that can CHOOSE what you want to emulate about both lineages of your ancestors, and what you can just let stay as history.

Their sacrifices were a whole event, they would pick someone to embody the god Huitzilopochtli and treated him like a god for the entire year until the 15th calendar month, then they would put on a festival type of show called the feast of Panquetzaliztli, that led to the extraction of the heart, then they were thrown down the steps of the Templo mayor to symbolize the death of Coyolxauhqui. Coyolxauhqui was the embodiment of night, and her brothers were the stars, they were threatened by the virgin pregnancy of their sister Coatlicue, Mother Earth, who became pregnant with the fifth sun Huitzilopochli, the new sun obviously means the death of night and stars, so they all charged at Coatlicue’s home atop of serpent mountain to kill her, Huitzilopochli sprung out of her mothers womb fully grown and in battle armor and fought them off, killing Coyolxauhqui. The Mexica were originally a shamanic nomadic people, Huitzilopochli was a real person, went by a different name that I can’t remember, but he eventually died, so the Mexica attempted to bring him back through witchcraft and the extraction of the heart. Once the Mexica reached the valley of Mexico and learned about the religions of the area, they incorporated their own beliefs with those of Quetzalcoatl, who practiced self sacrifice in the form of blood letting

They’re a colony of European Jews larping as the Semitic heirs of the land, when in fact the real semites have converted to Islam through the years and are the very people they’re subjugating

This is the most unapologetically discriminatory video I’ve seen all year. Regardless of how brutal the Aztec’s were to their own people and their neighbours (can’t have been THAT much worse than the Mesopotamian’s, Egyptians, Nubians, Romans, Greeks, Israelites, etc), there is no scientifically possible universe out there in which the slaughtering of 9 million+ people and the near complete and utter erasure of an entire culture and religion is even slightly justifiable.
The Spanish committed a genocide, the West African slaves they brought into the carnage didn’t consent to fight in their war and Christianity incentives people to demonise and sometimes even kill innocent women, people of colour, homosexual people and transsexual people. End of discussion.

Could you explain to me how a handful of Spaniards were able to eliminate 9 million natives with 16th century warfare technology?
Deaths from disease do not count as genocide, since they were involuntary and unexpected. No one had enough medical knowledge to foresee or avoid it.
In the African slave trade, Spain was much less active than Portugal, the Netherlands or England.
Was Juan Garrido an example of those Africans who opposed collaborating with the colonialists?

Why can't we just say that all colonization is evil?
Instead of comparing which one is worse?
It was all pretty terrible and heartbreaking 😭😭😭😭

I found this video very insightful. Not only does it help us generally understand how to reconcile past colonialism, but it’s a good conversation starter on how we should act to either support or oppose current colonialism efforts such as Russia in Ukraine. While the left seems to oppose colonialism in general, what is it doing when opposing “colonialism” that established the nation of Israel on one hand while they promote the illegal colonialism of the US by allowing migrants of all types to pass through the southern border illegally for political purposes on the other hand.
