Im just glad you didn't include footage of me shaking my bike above my head trying to get sealant on the sidewall as I watched $7000 ride away with you and Konny 🤣
Mega! Thanks for posting!
Congratulations on a season well done! I always enjoy your race videos despite backwards hat Dylan's commentary🤣
I might be wrong, but your rims look very narrow compared to the tyres. You would have a big aero gain from getting the widest external rims you could to minimize tyre ballooning and drag. It makes a massive difference.
"Guys hitting holes blindly made heavy duty rubber that much more important"
Don’t race anymore but your story telling is 1000 watts for the entire video. Thanks for the time and effort to bring us into the front of these races.
well said!
BHD should totally do one of these races, I can only imagine seeing him taking off at 600watt, passing the neutral car, all the while yelling ssssttttrrrrrraaaaaavvvvvaaaaaaa
Pretty sure he was at Sea Otter yoloing off the line haha
Negotiate start line pay for BHD.
I rarely comment, but I just had to. I can’t emphasise enough how much you have helped me become a better cyclist, I was a fairly average cyclist in my club last year but after applying your science based training tips I’m now one of the fastest and being selected to compete. To see your channel grow so much in the same way is incredible and well deserved, and I’m so happy to see you having an amazing season (302W NP for 5 hours is nuts 😅) Thanks Dylan :)
Right on!
"This meant just 267W NP for the next 37 minutes, which REALLY goes to show how cooked we were at this point" .... meanwhile my lifetime best 20 minute power is 265W and that was fresh.... crazy how strong people are
Hell, I can't even break 225
What's your W/kg though?
All of this information means nothing without your weight and height though. 265W for me is all day pace easy but I’m probably much heavier than you.
@@xAudiolith same, 200lbs 265 easy
@@tednruth453 only about 3
You achieved a significant improvement! You were ranked 41st in 2022, but this year you've jumped to 16th place, which indicates that your training has been very effective. This video does a great job of bringing the racing experience right into our homes, allowing us to witness the effort put into the race and the filming. I participated in a 2-hour mountain bike race 25 years ago in Austria, and it remains the most physically demaging experience I've ever had.
wait you used HOW much sealant?!? seems wild, but I'm just a slow recreational rider. anyway, great vid/recap as always, thanks and congrats on your result!
Man... can't wait for 2024 Dylan vs. Dizzle!!
Hey Dylan, curious to know (if you know) how many calories you consumed during the race, and in retrospect was it enough, too much, or spot-on..
Energy (kcal) = Power (watts) * Time (hours) * 3.6
@@sepg5084He meant nutrition not energy output....
I think backwards hat Dylan needs a mustache 🤔
Overall you had a great race. I love your insights on all of the gravel races. I was fortunate enough to get into a few of the Lifetime Series races this year that I had been not picked in the lottery for years. Now that I am on the verge of 60 and have an arrhythmia my goal is to finish...No longer is it to finish at the top of my age group. The gravel at Big Sugar was by far the worst of the year of any rides in the series. For Unbound I ran Hutchinson Toureg's in 40mm and they seemed fine but a slow-ish tire. I also ran these tires at The Crusher (Dooode!!!...where is a video on The Crusher?) and at Gravel Worlds in Nebraska. Then for The Rad I put on some 50mm GravelKings, which I also ran at Big Sugar. The sealant that I ran was a mix of Silca, Bontrager and MucOff about 1/2 Silca and a 1/4 of the others with some left over FinishLine Fiberseal. I did not flat at Big Sugar but I got a puncture that I never knew I had as the tire sealed, the frame had the tell tale sealant spray on it. Great video, thank you so much for sharing your insights and experience.
I was not prepared for the amount of sealant this man was ready to use.
Came for the science videos, stayed for the highly entertaining race recaps! Thanks for the great content, Dylan, and congrats on a successful season!
Would have been interesting to comment on how much sealant was left in the tires at the end of the day
If you follow a Trainer Road program you could top 10 next year. 👌
Congrats on your best year ever. Massive amount of work to keep on improving like that.
Congratulations Dylan. You're not only an amazing athlete but a great person. Btw, taking the time to produce these videos and improving your racing performance at the same time is beyond inspiring.
I would have wished you that 15th overall !
Why doesnt factor make a bike that just fits the larger tires at the bigger diameter
Well done Dylan. Looking forward to more training videos
Incredible performance. I'm able to sustain like 150w for like 90 seconds.
Great result, Great video!!
Love BHD.... gotta keep him around. That closing statement by him was hilarious.
so the real winner is BHD? .....
The solid effort doing the wisdom and experience justice. Nicely done Dylan. Hope you're healing up as fast as you ride 💪
Another great insider and motivational video from Dylan to watch during the off-saison. Great tire choice and extra stylepoints for the mismatch! Continentals Race King is one of the most underrated XC/Graveltires on the market in my view. I run a pair of these since years on my Dropbar Singular
Now THAT'S the kind of course the UCI should choose for the Worlds Gravel race.
Yeah bring the race to NZ.
@@gregmorrison7320 that would be beautiful too. Gravel worlds should be at least 95% gravel!
I love your videos race recap! Question: did you got throat sore during this race?
Man it was my GOAL to meet/talk to you so really appreciate you taking the time to do so at the Meteor and the signing table!
Surprised that backwards hat Dylan had no comments for the mismatching tyres… 😂
DUDE 28oz of sealant between two tires!!!! Thats insane!!
Hope you are adding Cape Epic 2024 to your plans!
Been WAY too long since we've had a plug for the cupcake flavor! Thanks BWHD
Good to see you healthy Dylan!
Dude, you're a beast! LTGP would be dumb not to shoo you in given the great coverage you provide for the series. Enjoy your offseason, and I can't wait to learn more from your upcoming training videos.
Mid-pack dominance!
I run those 48 Rene Herse knobbies on my gravel bike, too! The biggest tires I can fit.
From Goettl, Werner, to Dweezle, and others creating gravel content yours is by far the best. The detail you go into explaining equipment choices and the humor sprinkled in really makes these race reports a lot of fun. Keegan may be the most talented but he is by far the least relatable. Looking forward to hear about your 2024 training plan to finish 14th overall in the LGP.😂
YOUR DOING AMAZING DONT STRESS I THINK NEXT YEAR U GOT TOP 15 EASY NICE RIDING FROM AUSTRALIA
6:23 when backwards-hat-guy takes off his hat but keeps his attitude. Congrats on your finish and continued progress. Very inspiring!
I just got ya on 5 hour power. 265 is my best but I’ve done that a few times. Too bad I’m 30+kg more than you! 😢😢
Great job with 16th - Life Time would be stupid not to include you next year.
Well done Dylan. I have enjoyed your videos and season journey. Wishing you well for the future - Cheers Nick (a keen mtber from Wales)
Cool vid Bro, I really enjoy all your stats and setups. Wow, mountain bike tires is Genius!!! imagine how much worse you would’ve done without those mountain bike tires fixing flats and all. You got to finish the race without having to get off your bike that’s an accomplishment in itself.
I just wanna know why your parents signed the age wavier so you could get a tattoo.
So I guess those 30 hr weeks worked again for big sugar?
This made me happy because I still have a stockpile of Race King 2.2 tyres from my racing days that I’m working my way through.
One point. Argh! Well, great season anyhow. Good to see you on camera after that post race health scare.
Have you ever experimented with CushCore?
Love your content Dylan! Great job on the Series!!
Dylan, your commentary about how you've seen improvement in your fitness and power is inspiring. Work harder and smarter and the results will come: you're living proof. Your philosophy on "success" is also very motivating, it seems to emphasize becoming your mentally (because suffering requires GREAT mental strength) and physically strongest and "giving them hell" to the best of your abilities on the race course. And I love the "always empty the tank at the end" approach, it's not just about winning or losing, it's about finishing having given your absolute all: it's awesome!! Thanks for sharing and congratulations for what you accomplished this year!!
You crack me up dude! 😁😂🤘🏻 Also, awesome numbers and progress over the years man!! You rock.
Why not run inserts with gravel wheels?
Congratulations on a fantastic year. If you keep getting stronger, that’s what you can control. Looking very forward to your follow up training segments, esp with weightlifting commentary
@DylanJohnsonCycling - Congrats on the consistency, It is paying off for you! And thanks for the meticulous analysis!
Great race summary. Your approach clearly worked in avoiding flats. Great result in the Grand Prix. I look forward to watching your progress next year.
Oh, a tyre tip for you….Kenda Rush 29x2.2. So light, might be worth trying in training….
33kph on this setup is crazy
Chapeau Dylan, on an outstandig accomplishment, you are a legend mate! Solid effort to come in 16th this year, all your tweaks and science really came through. Next season, you are definitely going to be top 15. Thanks for the great content.
just wow, you really have come a long way.
Awesome video! I love your race recaps!!! Keep it up!
Great ccontent yet again, thank you!!!
Love the competition between Drew and you! Great vid again!
Congratulations on the successful season, looking forward to following next year - both videos & races 👍
Congratulations on a great series 🤘💪🖖
32onzes that’s a ridiculous amount of sealant = 900 grams. That’s also rotational weight, so harder to accelerate. I’m wondering if you could ditch the sealant and just use a tyre insert. Had a quick Google search and I found one that’s 130 grams per tyre. If you could save yourself half a kilo of rotational weight over five hours that might be a big boost. Obviously I’m not saying you should, but might be worth testing. You could still add a couple 100 grams of sealant on top of that and you’d still be less than 1/2 a kilogram.
Kudos on the result btw
I forgot to mention I had tire inserts in there too. I wasn’t messing around.
2024 will be your absolute best Dylan
Awesome season Dylan! Missed you on the BB podcast last week. Heal up and smash 'em next year!
Congrats on the great season. I, myself, had my best season in a loooong time following your training plans. Also, you forgot to mention that Alexey had Willie in his pack the whole time!
So were the 650b wheels the right choice? Are they slower?
Been waiting since the first pics of this race to hear about this tire setup!
Awesome Dylan, Love all your content and training and tech tips, congrats on a great season, you should be proud of your achievements, looking forward to see what you can do next year. Thanks again Bro!
your best video this year I'd say
Congrats! Your race videos is the most exciting for me to watch.
dude, worlds next year
Well done! 👍 hell of an effort!!
Congrats, great racing and great video.
you still a beast, good job bro
Gravel tires being unreliable in actual gravel 🤷 they should call those tires something else lol
For real though, gravel promoter's idea of "neutral" roll out is absolutely hilarious. As a less competitive rider this is often one of the highest output portions of the race.
Thanks for pointing out Andrew Dillman-now I know who that really fast guy from the southwest side of Louisville is.
Impressive Dylan, well done. Im curious to know what your Vo2 max is? If you don't mind me asking.
Congratulations on a fabulous season. Well done. Thanks for sharing the videos
Thanks for sharing Dylan. As for your training I'd be interested if/what you train to increase your fatmax power, as seems to be common among Triathletes (at least those that go the Ironman distance).
Great year! Great videos! Keep it up!
You must always sprint for the finish, even if you are dead last.
Great race! Thanks for sharing a terrific recap. As usual, love BHD ...
Wow, what a day! Solid work dude
Great race report and congratulations on a great season! 2024 will be amazing for you!
Banger day. 5k kilojoules 😮
I've never raced but really enjoy your videos. Congrats on a great season.
Congrats on the excellent season and another excellent video. Would you ever consider a vid on general tips for gravel racing outside of training IE how to descend gravel roads quickly?
Good job man ! Stay healthy and attract next season again
you're killing it Dylan, thanks for all the inspiration
Kudos. Well done
Yes Dylan! Awesome improvement on last year. 💪 Excited to see more in 2024. 🎉
Those RH tires were probably eating 50watts. But they’re tough. 🤷🏻♂️
Great Job bud!! Have enjoyed your coverage of the GP this year! Storytelling is on point 👌
Congratulations Dylan! Thank you for entertaining and educating us! :- ))
