Evaporated milk is what I use in my mashed potatoes & in my sausage gravy. I love the flavor. That’s how my mom always made those too. We love those country fried steaks too. And I definitely want to try the beef & broccoli. Looked great!
Thank you so much!! I think a lot of that comes from my Grandparents. They were born during the depression and were farmers. When you live out in the middle of nowhere, you make what you have work. Same is true when you’re on a tight budget
Never thought to use evaporated milk in mashed potatoes. I always make mashed potatoes from scratch using milk. I always keep evaporated milk on hand so I will try that!
@@MaegensKitchen Okay so they’re not really mashed potatoes but you make your mashed potatoes just like you normally would except for that right before you go to mash them, you melt some Velveeta and milk in the microwave to your likeness and you pour the cheese sauce over the potatoes and gently stir it in instead. Although my mom has actually mashed them before and they were good too. My mom used to make them all the time and they were incredible and so easy. We have only done it with peeled russet potatoes, though. I’m not sure how it would work out with any of the others.
Hi Maegen - I did not realize how much salt was in baking powder until I had to go salt free... Take a look and you will be surprised. You and Gary are young so you don't have to worry yet about salt but too much salt is not good for your heart or blood pressure. Also, just FYI - one Tylenol has 440mg/salt. When I was going thru dental pain/surgeries, I was taking 2 tylenols about 4 times a day -- not realizing I was taking in 3500mg of salt with the pills. I would love to see a "Salt-Free Thursday" on anybody's channel. It has been so difficult for us to find anythng that is salt-free that has any taste at all!! I did find some "i-Spice" seasonings on Amazon that I now use on everything. Tks for the nice video; it all looks so good. Granny hugs from Biloxi, MS
Hi! Thanks for watching! We are, but I have a history of heart disease on my Mom’s side, so I do try to be mindful of our salt intake. That’s also why I’ve started trying to incorporate more of the mediterranean cuisine as well

A couple other people suggested using evaporated milk in gravy! I’ve got to try that. Thanks so much!
Everything looked good. I also appreciate how you always say to use what you have, and aren't afraid to make substitutions.
