I'm SO glad chat didn't tip Joel off to saving Zane. I feel like since so many players get attached to him (or at the very least are amused by him), having him die in their first playthrough is so much more meaningful. Better to just let them know afterwards that he *could* have been saved

Has been one of my favorite series of streams in a while, so it's sad to see it go away, but atleast Joel murdered like 3 pets and also Zane before it was all over.

And to be fair to Joel, I didn't save Zane either because it wasn't very obvious you could - there was little reason to return to his page and less still to indicate you should go to his got-game-way-lame page to strike him some more.

Honestly when he first started this, I thought it was a silly fun game about 90's shitty websites and such. But holy shit this game took a really really dark turn at the end. Like prop to Jay to making a game look so comedic at first to turning into such a sad story in the end. Joel you coulda saved Zane! Damn you!
Imagine having a goddamn metal band AND streaming videogames any time you want with a gigantic audience.

Joel has never bound himself to a schedule or timetable or anything. He's always only ever streamed what he wants, when he wants, how he wants.
He's abandoned several series, he does one-offs on games that could easily be more, he's taken months off at times. He is flexible and free, and his audience is fine with that.
That's the key to not making the lifestyle stressful, or seem like a chore.
The thing that got to me the most was tiffs death. Not because her or whatever but because in one of her earlier posts she says she has epilepsy. Then during tims mindcrash, its implied that she got an induced seizure from that because it's flashing lights. Out of everyone, tiff is the only one who tim may have actually been responsible for.
Even Tiff wasn't Tim's fault. Did you forget the lightshow Outlaw 1.0 release caused?
@arciks11 yeah but tims mindcrash was publicly visible. Outlaw 1.0 (assuming you mean the first version we get to play that breaks our headset at the first time skip) was only given to enforcers and staff. If you mean the one that came on the y2k update, its entirely possible tiff had already suffered a seizure from joining teentopia and seeing tim's mindcrash on the home page. That official release of outlaw didn't become playable and subsequently breakdown the headbands until after the enforcer shuts down tims mindcrash.
This game actually broke my heart. I built connections with the characters without even seeing them. I felt like i lost best friends at the end. Never has a game done that to me.
the idea of thinking you killed your ex friend/crush for like 20 years and wasting your youth in prison for a crime you didnt commit is such an awful concept to think about
I wonder how Tim felt after finding out the truth, relief? (Finding out he was never responsible), anger?(from the wasted youth and possible trauma from being the only teen in prison surrounded by people who probably knew what he did and possibly tried to seek further justice against him)

Agh wtf are the chat members talkin about when he's stuck on getting hypnocure pro? He was so close to getting it the freelands and they talked him out of it???? And then with the reverse donation thing, people talked him out of that too???? Those are all fully legit, intended methods of getting past this step. So pissed at chat for convincing him it was "cheating" or not real.
“One guy” moments or people who intentionally lie to Joel in chat (with moments like that) are the fucking WORST.

ah heck, I'm gonna miss this series, but I'm glad joel saw through with it to the end. now all that's left is to wait for zane to invent doom so dr joey drip can REALLY prove if he's got game or way lame
I really like this game, nothing else quite 'feels' like it. I have some thoughts on the ending;
The format the story is conveyed in makes it tricky to 'arrest' DM without it feeling messy or heavy handed, so he has to kind of just confess himself and give up very quickly after you find the evidence needed to actually convict him, taking the wind out of your big 'ha I got you' moment somewhat.
I also have seen multiple streamers that when sent the link for the final version of 'Outlaw', felt incredibly averse to it, as if they were expecting it to give them a bad ending by killing them through the headset, and honestly with the way the story was going and previous events, it's not too crazy of a thought to have, so it feels a little odd that it's the only option. I'm sure that's meant to be the point, like you expect it to be dangerous and it's actually something sentimental, but it doesn't really make sense for the character you're playing to do that, in my opinion.
He also doesn't really come off as likeable until the very end when he actually has some nice things to say about the departed, but by then it's a bit too little too late so the entire sentiment feels like it isn't enough and that he's just trying to make himself feel better about what he did. Maybe not letting you get the satisfaction is his final revenge; a true villain to the end.
Whatever way you interpret the ending, it is very compelling and I look forward to more from the team.
It would have been interesting if he could have interfered with you finding evidence with your own headset. And I agree, DM comes off as ominous and then he just gives up. Pretty anti-climatic.
I never thought he would try and kill you. He seems pretty remorseful in his last email and throughout the game you see that he doesn't have any real malicious intent. He just wants to be recognized by the hacker group while still tending to the corporate interests. I really like the characters in this game, even the ones that seem like assholes generally have some background reason for it. Except Artie I guess, he is just weird lmao
The thought of him trying to kill me did cross my mind, but I was willing to give him a chance after his confession.
Plus, the game is called Hypnospace outlaw, when the outlaw in question presents you with a finished version of his "outlaw" game, you might as well try it out
I really like this take, so I'll offer mine -
I somewhat agree with the seeming sort of 'anticlimactic' end but I'm not too affected by it, probably with how I view Dylan. At first, I thought of Dylan the same way (someone willing to go out of his way to keep everything hidden, even kill if he has to?), but after the ending and reflecting on everything to that point, I now see him differently.
Especially with his confessions at the end and stepping back to see the bigger picture throughout the entire game, I see him as someone who meant well and wanted to do what was best for his company/dream/whatever, but he flew too close to the sun and had his metaphorical wings melt. Especially with his behaviors and mannerisms toward the end, he was really trying to grasp at every last chance he could to save Hypnospace and make it successful.
Unfortunately, he seemingly got tunnel vision and lost sight of the greater aspect of what needed to be done, no matter the begging and pleading from Samantha and the criticism offered by other users (for me, especially with the Zane/Corey/Tiffany ChitChat fiasco. He should have done something but was too pre-occupied to bother). I believe in the Leaky Piping screenshots when he goes off on Samantha when she asks him to focus more on the development of the OS, after he screams his head off at her he quickly apologizes for doing so and expresses his concern that the competitor Cyberworldz will destroy everything he's built. To add to this, in his eulogy to Roddy,
_"Roddy, you might not buy this, but I considered you my best friend at the end there. My work consumed me and became me. People who weren't helping me build my masterpiece were invisible. Through all of it, you were always willing to come back and put up with my garbage and God I wish you hadn't. I'm sorry."_
With this in mind, and added with the screenshots from Leaky Piping, I truly don't believe he meant to harm others. Maybe he's just someone who wanted to do the best he could and try to make his dream (ha) a reality and share it with everyone. But he steered the wrong way and paid the ultimate price for it.
Also, his somewhat chill and lax nature even when being criticized by those in M1nx. Especially when they're specifically calling him out or insulting him, he seemingly holds no grudges against any of them and even allows the 1-HypnoCoin HypnoCure Pro and DreamToolz to stay up. He really seemed to be trying (maybe too hard) to, as knasigboll above me put it, 'be recognized by the hacker group while still tending to the corporate interests."
I agree that with how the game plays out, the ending is a very tricky thing to make work out/satisfying, but I believe what was done was the right choice. If Dylan had tried to kill you or hinder you in ANY way, it would have really taken away from his heartfelt apology and the impact of the eulogies at the end.
You also mentioned how you feel like he doesn't come off as likable until the very end and "that he's just trying to make himself feel better about what he did," and I mostly agree. But I don't think you _were_ meant to like him during the main game. At least, on the surface level. When you finally start to uncover the truth is when all the pieces finally start to come together. As I pointed out above, how I saw it spoke a lot of tones to me at least. I don't think he was just trying to make himself feel better, I truly believe he was remorseful about what he had done. Is that to say that they couldn't have expanded on this further? Not at all. I feel like there are a few points that could have added to the impact, but the end result is still satisfying.
I'm also not saying that this is the definitive for Dylan's character, I'm mostly coupling it with my own personal experiences (haha remorse go brrrr) as I've been through and done something similar in my life. But hey, that's just how I saw it when I played through. Whether you agree with anything I said or don't, in the end all that matters is if you enjoyed the game or not. Don't let it take away from your experience.
The one thing I wanna say is I wish I could have kicked Adrian's ass though. I hate him with a burning passion lmao.
@@BulborbStan I ultimately think Dylan is more pathetic than ominous. It's simultaniously what makes him so despicable and yet so human. His cowardice is what allowed him to cover up his crimes for decades but it's also what ultimately makes him unable to let go of his guilt, leading to his eventual confession which is, of course, too little too late.

A lot of the profiles and webpages of the hypnospace users have little details that upon first read can seem like they're just little jokes but can have strange/depressing implications when you think about them more deeply or when you have more context to them.

retro rap album covers are powerful. they are the most photoshop nightmare garbage ever and they remind me of state fair vans selling french fries
the entire ending really does effectively make you feel "icky" for continuing to use hypnospace even though it's a fictional technology behind your normal computer screen. at least, i felt that way playing it myself.

This game pulls you in with goofs and gaffs but it is genuinely heartfelt and sincere, a lot of people when this game came out saw the goofy graphics and I think assumed it was just more silly nostalgia bait, I'm glad with time this game has grown to be quite popular and received the acknowledgment it deserved.

Apparently Jay is gonna start work in the next month. I think the process was delayed because he needed the bulk of the engine completed, which that got delayed due to one of the devs of it having unavoidable issues, so he's going to get that and I assume get everything built on it.

I do agree with Joel on the rap thing. Of course I like other forms of rap but, Lyrical, Melodic, and almost an experimental kind of sound is good to me when it comes to hip hop and rap. I do like some more modern rappers that are kind of like that like Tyler the creator, Kendrick Lamar, Earl Sweatshirt. Of course MF DOOM will always be banging. Also one of my favorite, kind of obscure rap/hip hop artists is Busdriver. I know that sounds ironic but not too many people talk about Busdriver and his music as much as I hope for
