    I have the same issue with a 2020 blade 15 base. Fan noise when doing not much makes it pretty useless in a quiet home office. Using hwinfo you'll see gpu idles at 10 watts with a monitor plugged in which I think is part of but not all of the problem. Razor have told me the fan curve in the bios needs updating but doesn't sound like they actually plan to do that.

      Fan speed should always be tied to CPU/GPU temperatures and workload, and nothing else. If the CPU and GPU are largely idle, and the temps are low as shown in this video, the fans should be off or barely spinning.

At idle, with nothing running , my fans are almost contantly on at 2600rpm, it has the same gpu+ cpu. its normal. its hard programmed to keep the fans spinning when having a display attacked, and plugged in.
    the display attached can only work through the dedicated GPU, which basically makes the blade eat twice the power, so more heat.

    • @schalachi
      @schalachi 2 года назад

      agreed it normal to here fan noise on external display because it activates the didcated graphics card. my issue is i did not connect a display and sometimes (not always) my fans a noticeably loud at idle. my temps are around 29-20C range in an air conditioned room

      it won't be bad when you're using it without an external display. clearly there is something in the bios that when the device is hooked up to a display (i.e. switches to dp output) it kicks the fans into high gear. in my experience it def will not run louder than expected (i.e. low workload like photoshop) when no display is hooked up.

    There is a simple reason for it. You are making it use its graphics card to display the 5k monitor. The razer blade assumes it needs to ramp up its fan when using it graphics card. This happens to almost all laptops.

    • @VWTalk
      @VWTalk  4 года назад +3

      It happens to poorly designed laptops. GPU fan speed is based on GPU load in any device designed by a competent individual. This is an obvious design issue.

      I also tried modifying c states by modifying the bios (not an actual setting that is in bios, but capturing modifying and rewriting the bios to the chip), and I was able to get it quieter under load, but idle fan speeds were still crazy loud.

    • @VWTalk

      dieeego I paid $1450 CAD (925 euro without sales tax) for this initially one year ago when it launched, if you are getting the 1660ti/9th gen 6 core i7, I’d advise you avoid both options. Look into a gaming laptop with the new amd ryzen 4000 series, they run significantly cooler and perform better than Intel, and this is coming from someone who has been an Intel fanboy for life. Regardless of which way you go, 1200 for this machine is a bad deal. I’ve gone through about 4 laptops in the last year, buying and returning trying to find one without crippling flaws, and I’d advise anyone I know to steer clear of razer. The issue I experienced with this laptop will never be fixed.

      Manab Dutta In my opinion it’s an unacceptable configuration and not having fan curve control in the year 2020 is a joke. Personally I would avoid the blade 15 until some serious design improvements are made. If I were buying a 15” windows laptop for gaming today, I probably would buy the zephrus g14 from asus. The razer machines are riddled with small bugs and oversights such as this and the support is non existent. Being a student, when I buy a high end laptop I buy it to keep a while, and all the issues I’ve experienced with the razer device would lead me to avoid the company until they get a little more user focused, instead of focused on cranking out a laptop that functions.
