  • Box rings are a lot of fun to make. They combine two formed pieces of sheet with two flat pieces of sheet. This is not always easy. One of the key tips is to use copious amounts of solder. This video walks you through Project 9 - The Box Ring from the book "Professional Jewelry Making" by Alan Revere, (with his permission and encouragement). This series of videos will show you the process of creating the various projects in the book. Be sure to subscribe: bit.ly/2dyBgwT

    I learned to use hard solder for all ! Depends where you place the flame ,even if their is 4-5 solders joints and settings too ! All got to do with how well you can solder . I try to use hard for all ! I'm old school ! 3rd generation 38yrs hand made . I use medium ,soft for repair or features ! I try to stick to hard ,medium for most !

    you will put all your refillable propane torches in the bin.

    • @MelissaMuir
      @MelissaMuir  5 лет назад

      pijnto the main soldering was done with my acetylene torch. I just used the little butane torch to light the piece to burn off the alcohol. I also have a little torch with propane/oxy. I think I have 7 or 8 different torches in my studio. 😊

      Melissa Muir I thought you are supposed to solder first with hard then medium then easy. I was afraid of doing the inner shank with hard then moving on to the outside with the same afraid that the seam might open? And I didn’t see you do so I guess when you said you are only using the solder as a holding point you don’t need to turn it over and solder the other side? I’m guessing because when you solder the sides that will be enough to hold everything in place? Thanks Melissa I love watching your videos.
