Samson et Dalila (Samson and Dalila) is a grand opera in three acts and four scenes by Camille Saint-Saëns. It is based on the Biblical tale of Samson and Delilah found in Chapter 16 of the Book of Judges in the Old Testament. It is also the only opera by Saint-Saëns which is regularly performed.
The Bacchanale (Act 3 Scene 2) is an orgiastic dance often depicting a drunken revel or bacchanal, and has its ties to the Roman God Bacchus. The Bacchanale has been used by many other prominent composers, such as in Wagner's Tannhäuser, Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé and Glazunov's The Seasons.
