This is the first time anyone using the knocker rig stated that it wasn't supposed to sit on the bottom! I've seen many use it, but none said this. Thanks!
Thanks for the comment. When I made this video, I was in the early stages of fishing. I still consider myself a novice, that said; I seldom use knocker rig anymore. They are excellent rigs but I often catch more fish using the high low rig around my area. I think it's because there is a good amount of vegetation at the bottom where I go and the knocker rig is not the best rig to use. Have a good day!
Both of these rigs are meant to be used bottom fishing. Been using either in Florida for50+ years for bottom fishing in the intracoastal waterway and the St. Johns River.
Hello Sir, thank you Sir, I'm discovering your channel and this video that I adore. I am new to shore fishing. for the leader how much should it measure for the leader carolina rig and from the swivel to the hook for the knocker rig? What should you put as bait? thank you sir
Hello, I usually keep my leader at about 2-3 feet. You can go longer if you wish, but it will be awkward to cast if you have a long lead. 2ish is the sweet spot for me. For the knocker rig, it's not an exact science. I usually set mine no shorter than 1-1.5 ft. For the bait, the fish that we catch here loves crabs and worms so this is my default bait. You can never go wrong with worms but don't be afraid to explore others. What is your target fish? Salt water or fresh water fishing? 👍
Hello Sir, thank you for your return, I fish in the sea. Different varieties of fish, I will listen to your advice. I hope for new videos on carolina rig / Knocker rig with your good advice. Happy end of year celebrations in advance.
@@gino55yo I will definitely make another video on both rigs at some point. Keep on fishing, good luck. 4 more weeks and another year is gone. Happy holidays to you. Keep me posted on your catch. 👍
Don’t know who suggested a knocker rig needs to be suspended but not my suggestion. I’ve always fished them the same way (on the bottom) and done well. I prefer Carolina rig unless rocks are present and then I use knocker rig. Less terminal tackle the better.
Thank you for the comment. I've used the knocker rig for the very first time on this trip. I usually use carolina or high low rig majority of the time. I have seen "Catfish kayak" use them as suspended rig. What you said about rocks on the bottom makes perfect sense. Thank you again. What hooks do you use? I'm planning to make a vid on hooks that I use next time. Need input from other fishing friends. Have a good day.
Hooks depend on fish you are seeking. I use smaller hooks for sheepshead because they have small mouths...say #1 or 1/0 but use larger hooks for snapper usually 2/0-3/0 or so. If fishing for larger or large mouth fish such as snook or grouper I’ll use 5/0-8/0 hooks. Depends mostly on fish mouth size and not necessarily fish size.
Hi, I have been busy working at my other job but I will definitely post a video about knocker rig and Carolina rig. Hang in there, I will post soon. Keep on fishing and best of luck. Thank you.
Hi, Tsunami Tuff Tip 4'9", they are also available in longer size but this is perfect on a kayak. I think it is considered a boat rod. Found it at cabellas about 1 year ago. I love it. Caught a 25 lbs ray last year and never snapped. Not a big fan of long rods on a kayak, they are very difficult to manage.
Hey thanks for the comment, your the second person to mention that. This was my first time trying the knocker rig. Heard it from someone that it is suspended but I guess I misinterpreted that whole set up. I will definitely do another video between the two when I go out next time. Thanks again.

Sounds like an excellent place to fish. I like using both, but I've been using knocker more than the Carolina lately.

Bro you fishing to knocker rig wrong. It goes at the bottom, you fish it the same way as the Carolina rig. Got to redo your video.
