A show car, sometimes called a dream car, is a custom-made automobile created specifically for public display, rather than sale. They are shown at auto shows and other exhibitions. Show cars can either come from car companies or from private individuals.
Corporate show cars generally fall into one of three categories:
Cars intended to preview an upcoming new production model or redesigned model, either to assess or to whet the public appetite. Such preview show cars may be thinly disguised or slightly retrimmed versions of the eventual production model, painted in bold or unusual colors or fitted with unusual trim to attract attention.
Cars intended to assess the public reaction to a type of model, or a particular styling theme or feature. A prominent example was the 1938 Buick Y-Job, a custom-built Buick created by General Motors styling chief Harley Earl for his own use; although it was never produced, it contained features such as hidden headlights that later became GM styling features. Such cars typically are not intended for production themselves, but may become the basis of a production model if demand is high enough. The Dodge Viper is notable example of the latter.
Styling exercises built to reward successful designers, letting them blow off steam with a design more exciting than workaday, "cooking" sedans and trucks. Such exercises also serve to draw attention to the manufacturer's more ordinary products.
Privately owned show cars are cars extensively cared for by their owners primarily for the purpose of entering car shows and can be production models or custom-made.
The creation of show cars dates back to at least the 1920s, but reached its zenith in the United States in the 1950s, when most major U.S. automakers began to exhibit wild, fanciful dream cars. The preeminent dream car maker was GM, which displayed its work at a series of traveling Motorama shows, mounted at great expense and attracting much publicity. In the 1960s American show cars became substantially more mundane, slight variations on typical production models (with exceptions like Chevrolet's Mako Shark prototype). The practice of building them fell on hard times during the 1970s, when automotive whimsy was a low priority compared to safety, emissions control, and fuel economy. The practice was revived in the 1980s, and remains strong today both in the U.S. and abroad. Авто/Мото
After watching so many modeling videos on RUclips, it does my heart good to see someone who isn't so damned precious with the painting. You make this look fun instead of ulcer inducing, and for that I thank you.
Thanks! That's the goal, more FUN, less stress, it's a hobby after all.
The idea I try to put out there is to enjoy our hobbies and not try to tell others how to enjoy theirs. I think too many people try to tell others how to have fun and cut them down if they don't do everything the way they want them to.
If someone likes taking a few months to make a model and make it 'perfect' that's cool, and those that like to make a model and have fun and get it done in a weekend are cool too! There is room for all of us in the hobby. :)
Dry-brushing was the best thing I ever learned in modeling.
Right on! I heard that!
It really is!
I love these old AMT kits. They came with all sorts of cool miniature accessories.
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic! Fun looking kit, reminds me when I built the "Lil Gasser" as a kid many moons ago.
Thanks, looking forward to making more of these show rods!
A beautiful build! I could watch you build for hours. Oh wait..... I do 😂😂😂😂 thanks for sharing. 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow really nice job! I remember building the lil Roamin chariot in the mid 70s wish they would reissue that one..:)
That would be cool!
Great build as always. Love the weathering. Hope you have a great day Chris.
Thanks, you too!
Those kits were from a time when building these show rod kits was fun I remember as a teenager building the Red Baron and the Deals Wheels kits and it was awesome
Great that these old kits can still be enjoyed
Very cool! Me too!
Really fun build Chris, love the weathered look! Your presentation is excellent as always!
Thanks a bunch!
So I really like the builds that you do but this one is definitely in my opinion your best one yet! Very well done!
Yay! Thank you!
I've been contemplating buying this neat kit but I'm not that big a fan of bike/chopper kits. Your presentation has helped me make up my mind. It'$ a go! I have to have one! Thanks for keeping the hobby alive!
Cool, thanks!
This one is just so wacky lol! I really need to order this one, it looks so fun. You knocked it out of the park again!
Thanks for watching!
Very cool, really like the way you colored her up.Great work, you do them simple and easy to understand for any age.Thank you.
Looks like a FUN kit !!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I love it!
Weathering, dry brushing and the rust effect are outstanding, another fine build and video Chris. Thank you for another awesome video.

Haaaaaa ha I have one of those and now I know what to do with it,,, you took a cartoon and made it look real, very clever my man very clever
Thanks!
This is such a different one, fun to watch you put your impressions on it. Love when they have all these little extras with it.
Thanks for watching!
That was a fun build. I like all the extras they include in the kit to dress it up. Like the weathering you did as well giving it a more realistic used look.
Cool, thanks!
This is not a critisizm but I found that when using super glue on painted parts that over time they just come apart ,with a slight breeze. I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. 😍
I don't have that issue, at least not in the last 6+ years. No parts have fallen off.
Nice job, Chris! You bring out alot of cool ideas in your builds and reviews. Thanks again and Happy Modeling.....
Thanks, you too!
We're going to have to say this was an amazing build models like this and people who put them together and do things that you do are what got me back into making models again I really appreciate that so much as soon as I get paid I know I'm going to go pick this one up and do it as my own thank you for being an inspiration to all of us model builders
Wow, thank you!
The rustic cab on the very mechanical frame makes it some what incongruous, but it looks great. Your videos are always a treat Chris, thank you for all your effort.
Glad you like them!
I've been waiting on this kit for close to 30 years, I have it now. the fondest memory is the little wine bottle, which I used for Rommel's rod model kit.
Enjoy it!
Very cool! What a fun kit and build. Excellent stuff. Love the music you play while painting. Great video.
Thank you very much!
Chris great job
Chris !!!! Love how you weathered this cool trike !!

Glad you think so!
I love these types of builds... Nice one!
Glad you like them!
what an awesome kit right there
I hope you respond, you sound like the coolest guy to talk to. My first hobby was graffiti, it wasn't the best choice for me, but it was fun. Its a good thing that i found out about scale modeling. I started scale modeling, because i remember when i went to work with my dad (He's a landscaper) there was this house with this old man, he was cool, also i remember when he started giving me kits to build, but he stopped giving model kits away to me🙃, i have never knew about scale modeling, it was so random to me, but "it was the coolest thing ever!!". I bought cement glue for the kits, but i didn't know much about it, i still built the kits, they weren't great builds, but i had a great time building them. 😊
Enjoy your hobby!
Cute n KKOOOLL Chris, love The Everything. God Bless.
Yeah man brother, right on!

The only problem with the kit is the roof shingles are backwards. Still i can't wait to build it! Great build. Love your paint job!
I just got mine a few days ago, and was hoping you'd do a review! Excellent build, Chris!
Though I like Tom Daniel and Ed "Big daddy" Roth show car designs, I've always gravitated towards the designs of John Bogosian. I once heard it said that Mr. Daniel and "Big Daddy" were artists, and the automobile was their medium. To me, Mr. Bogosian took that one step further: Bogo is also an artist. But his medium is the Model Car, itself! Without having to worry about the practicality of a full-size build, Mr. Bogosian was able to come up with some very surreal designs. Let's hope that Round 2 reissues the Bogosian Koo-Koo-Kar, as well as the Li'l Roaman Chariot, someday!
Thanks for watching! I'll build any of these cool rigs!
@@hpiguy As far as I can tell, John Bogosian had four, basic chassis that he based his entire "Li'l" series of customs on. A front engine, dual rear-axle chassis; a front engine, single rear axle chassis; a rear Corvair engine chassis, and the Hemi-powered 'trike' chassis, (the one used for the Li'l Gypsy Wagon.)
Thanks for doing your part to keep model building alive and kicking!!!!
Love it
Thanks for watching!
That "John G" guy had quite the imagination - then you took over and made it look real - real cool, that is.
Thanks for watching!
Magnificent
Thanks for watching!
This would be super by doing a diorama with the old Wolfman plastic model. Lots of ideas for this.
That would be cool!
love the Trike im gowing to triy to git them
Great video. Bogosian's designs were right up there with Daniel's.
Yes they are!
Yessir That’s my grandpa
Love that music!
Thanks!
Nice
Thanks!
Your videos make this covid time very relaxing! I love the music you have playing while you build your models! Where do you put all your models? Keep up the great work!!
Thanks for watching!
I store most, display a few, and give a bunch away.
I would love to see a real life one
Man I wish I could get a motorcycle like that for real
I bought 4 kits. One I’m going to kitbash into a Monster Rod like the old Aurora Monster Rods. The 4th kit I opened was the Metallic Orange Kat kit 😃 So cool. Very 🎃 Halloweeny 👻💀👀🎃
Very cool, glad you got one! Enjoy! Post pics of that orange one and your completed builds on the hpiguys Workshop FB page!
hpiguys Workshop will do !
와~♡
Music is more smoky French/Arabic Cafe than Mysterious Gypsy, but hey, the model is super.
Thanks for watching!
"Well ya pick up the fiddle and ya pick up the bow
Kick off your shoes and ya throw em on the floor
Dance in the kitchen till the mornin light
Lousiana Saturday night!"
Yeehaw!
dad got the special edition of this one :) he never put it together
Looks great Chris, especially the weathering. Will we be seeing any sci-fi models soon?
I hope so, but it depends on what the companies send. I think MRC is sending me their newest sci fi ship.
What do you use to help you see better if anything ???great video as always
For now my eyes are pretty good.
I use a lot of light.
Love your videos. How do you display all your models that you have built? Do you have a display case ?
Thanks for watching! I build too many to display them all, most get stored away.
Pretty sure I heard turkey in the straw
Awesome build once again chris? What do you use once you clip chrome parts from there tree to touch up the chrome
Silver marker or molotow pen works fine.
Thank you
Excellent detail work with your painting skills. Keep the model builds coming. I've noticed sometimes you use black craft paint instead of the black wash when you do detailing. Is there a reason why you use one instead of the other, because to me it looks like you are accomplishing the same thing.
Paint works better for filling big areas or deep crevices. Wash works well for fine details and tiny openings, etc.
@@hpiguy Thanks for the tip, I knew there had to be a reason as to why you used the two different products other than, I am out of one so I will just use the other one.
so...i put to many coats of future on a model.would you have any tips on how to remove it all so i can start over ?
Super Clean will remove anything from plastic, but also the paint.
what was the last mini box that came with a kit the "Crew Chief" kit?
Not sure, I've seen a few with the mini boxes, love it!
man id love to know where can i get this kit from...in europe
where do you get your music and great build BTW
You Tube has free music for video makers.
So do you always matte coat your chrome or just when you want to dry-brush it?
When I want to subdue it I'll flat coat it.
When are you going to build the WW 1 aircraft?
👍
Thanks for watching!
I watched you build this model went out to buy it got it home and I got the the cat its in orange. Should I leave it in the box and go buy another one??
Very cool!
I'd prob save mine and buy another one to build up.
Thats what I'll do then , thanks
Your not going to believe this i went today to buy another one. And its orange too, lol damn!
Oh man the way it looks you'll have to talk to a psychiatric because that's very unusual to me but then again I don't care what him or her says about you, I'm gonna go out and buy one.
where can I find car?
Sweeet
Thanks for watching!
Best crack on & paint your wagon 😁 (joke pun )
Thanks for watching!
Lots and lots of parts! I tried sending you picture of a F1 model I built and used the ruclips.net/user/hpiguysworshop, but I don't think it worked. S there another address I can use? Your right about the suspension parts sagging, and F-1 card are bad about it. Stay safe.
You can post pics on the FB page, we don't reply to RUclips emails, simply no time to reply to everyone that wants to send messages. Thanks!
Thats a mandolin
