I am so enamored and in awe with this orphaned, male Orca named Luna, who for six years, kept reaching out to his fellow mammals in Nootka Sound for companionship. I'm so sorry that the Fisheries & Wildlife Department did not allow his human friends--yes, FRIENDS--to escort him by boat to find his pod. If he did not "take" to him, then he could have simply swam back along side the boat back to the sound. The First Nation did right by Luna in saving him from some dreadful plan to have captured him and transported him 200 miles. This Orca touched many lives and, having learned about him by watching the film "The Whale," I must say that I was deeply moved as well. Love to Luna.
I cry a lot when heard that she died, it is so sad. The goverment was wrong and l living in russia blame them. Somebody tell them, that all world sad and blame to help, but they didnt allowe.
I think you need to actually read what happened. The locals, including these dumb as rocks pelicans, didn't want luna to leave, thus signing his death warrant via boat propeller.
It is not so simple. Actually, Luna would not swim out of Nootka Sound, not even if lured. That was Plan A to try to reunite him with his family, but didn't work. That is why the DFO resorted to Plan B: taking Luna and bringing him south. No one was completely right or uninterested. The Natives wanted him there because they said to believe he was a reincarnated chief that had died. The DFO had a Plan C which was taking Luna to an acquarium in case the reunion did not work. Of course moving Luna would have been a bit shocking for him, but he so badly needed the love and interaction of fellow orca, which he missed and that's why he turned to humans. The same operation had worked in 2002 with a Northern resident orca calf that was reunited with his pod after being captured and moved. It could work with Luna, too. I'm not saying it was easy. Everybody was worried for him. But preventing him from being moved because of some legend wasn't so open either. I think most people loved him and wanted the best for him, especially people like DFO officer Ed Thorburn, who loved him to the point he would drive him to the pen and lose Luna's trust to see him reunited with pod L. It's easy to depict it "good indians, evil DFO", but despite the DFO chiefs being very murky there still were DFO officials who loved Luna as much as it gets and wanted the best for him. He was playing with boats the whole time because he missed a 24/7 pod with him. The outcome was inevitable, but at least he was loved and cuddled to the last. I just wish he got a chance with his pod at least
@@HellPatrol92 This is correct. The film didn't say it but let's be honest - the First Nations was angry at the DFO and they foiled the plan to reunite Luna with his pod. We know how this ended. It's the songs. These songs have been sung for thousands of years, and as a result have been essentially passed down among the orcas as well. The bass carries especially well in water. The First People know what they're doing, and this is an affirmation of a relationship that has existed long before settlers ever thought anything else existed outside their own villages.

Luna, was a gift from God to those locals however, the stupidity of ignoring such humble creature and leaving him to the mercy of a tugboat propeller . It is just painful to think about that little orca.
You might want to check out the Orca Network, as they followed Tsu'xiit or Luna from the beginning to his sad death by a U.S. tugboat. They have videos and a whole lot more info on him. Tsu'xiit was honoured by the Mowachaht-Muchalat First Nations after his death, they went to the Kakawin's (Orca) favourite feeding ground off Mooya Bay in British Columbia to have a ceremony to honour Tsu'xiit...for the Kakawin is their Spiritual guide. Good Luck Shelby!
Indians killed him. You're a fool or an asshole if you believe otherwise. Everyone knows you don't feed or play with wild animals, for exactly this reason. Selfish pricks ignored this basic wisdom because Luna was bringing in money. So much for the myth of wise spiritual Indigenous people in harmony and balance with Nature. Just a bunch of money-grubbing apes.
Aww sweet Luna :) too bad that orca got hit with a boat propeller and died from the injuries 😩😩😩 you guys should watch the full story on Luna. It’s heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. ♥️
I've seen a few films of him and he's never with his family. I wonder what happened to them or how he got separated from them. Going to keep digging to find out his whole story if possible. I didn't know he had passed on, save for the comments that I've seen stating so. What a shame, he's so lovely and I do agree with having cages around the motors. That's an excellent idea.
One day. One moment. One world. One universe. And yet. We can not understand how small we are, by thinking that we are the only one's with feelings. Destroying everything to build our small life's. Destroying those who excist to make these planet a better place. One day we will see. One moment we will kneel, in front off a world far better than us.
Actually, the people trying to relocate him were not going to bring him back to his family. They were going to put him in captivity. In the end, the natives did what they were supposed to do. Luna looked like he loved them a lot anyway.
Just read the wiki bio of this orca and cannot believe the tragic way in which he died. Worst thing about it was that he was only 6 yrs old at the time which is literally still just a young child in orca years. If tugboats have the power to do what one of them did to this poor orca, then maybe we shouldn't have them around in areas where whales and seals normally frequent to come up to the surface.
Just saw this video. Read through the comments. Looked Luna’s story up. Watched a movie about Luna. Read about Luna’s death. Came to the conclusion that the First Nations had the right idea. Whenever something happens that defies normalcy the end is meant to teach. Did we learn????
I agree about the propellers, but the Mowachaht-Muchalat First Nations were not crazy people, the Kakawin or Orca is their Spiritual leader and guide, they were trying to be his human pod, until he could be reunited with his Kakawin pod. Their interactions with wild Orcas goes back thousands of years, all in the wild, so they would be the best people's to understand how best to protect him, sadly it was a U.S. tugboat that killed him. They honoured him ina ceremony at his favorite spot Mooya Bay

OMG that's what happened to this orca?? Day ruined already 😭😭😭
I’m heart broken each time I watch lunas videos. Knowing she was lonely breaks my heart.
Spirit animal, it loved the ceremonial song and drumming!
Потрясающе!!!, интересно, кто кого изучает мы их?, или они нас?))...удивительная съёмка!!!
Im so in awe about now im tearing up
Aaaaaawwww little luna - rip sweetie pie.
A moment like this I would treasure for life, damn how she died freaking humans.
The first nations didnt fail her❤😢
Si nous respectons la nature elle nous respectera. J'espère que Luna ça toujours aussi bien parmi des humains qui respectent là vie.❤
That is awsome so majestic and powerful and the whale looked pretty cool to. Lol.
Che meraviglia 🤩 l'amore per gli animali è la cosa più bella vedere ♥️
Luna is So Beautiful... She's so Amazing and Gorgeous..... I just wanna give her a hug.....
love orca's incredible and very intelligent. their friendly it seems in the wild.
I don't care whether it's land or water animal, all should be free living their own free will. This is beautiful footage.
Just watching this video years later it makes me cry...
It's beautiful thing to see
That is just wonderful what they did and Luna she's so beautiful beautiful orca that's for sure she will be missed 🐳🥀❤️🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤
My feel so sad looking at this video. If i was them, i would feel very honoured to play with her. I will take care of her 😭😭
It wasn't a her....
One day. One moment. One world. One universe. And yet. We can not understand how small we are, by thinking that we are the only one's with feelings. Destroying everything to build our small life's. Destroying those who excist to make these planet a better place. One day we will see. One moment we will kneel, in front off a world far better than us.
you know these animals are very similar to us, we must respect them as they respect us
Makes me think that there's a connection with orcas that we humans forgot about, yet they didn't. They are so curious about us humans.
R.i.p. luna! Truly a beautiful creature!
I believe that a member of these species will eventually show us everything about the deep.
Actually, the people trying to relocate him were not going to bring him back to his family. They were going to put him in captivity. In the end, the natives did what they were supposed to do. Luna looked like he loved them a lot anyway.
I love luna.
thank you to his human friends who loved him and helped him stay free...
An enormous apex predator with the personality of an annoyingly playful housecat. Luna was God's most perfect creature.
That's amazing mate
RIP Luna you are a magnificent spirt!
Beautiful 💕💕💕💕 🙏🏼🙏🏼🌹💕🙏🏼🙏🏽🙏🏽🌹🙏🏻,Luna was lovely 💖💖❤️✌🏼
What a beautiful baby
That sweet orca was trying them to stop that awful noise they call music. RIP Luna
Just saw this video. Read through the comments. Looked Luna’s story up. Watched a movie about Luna. Read about Luna’s death. Came to the conclusion that the First Nations had the right idea. Whenever something happens that defies normalcy the end is meant to teach. Did we learn????
Linda, carinhosa. A natureza é sábia.
6 people paddling plus a large sail ⛵-
...Orca's upsidedown half out of the water getting petted, wondering why they're going so slow. 🐌
Spettacolo puro!!!!!🤩🤩🤩
I agree about the propellers, but the Mowachaht-Muchalat First Nations were not crazy people, the Kakawin or Orca is their Spiritual leader and guide, they were trying to be his human pod, until he could be reunited with his Kakawin pod. Their interactions with wild Orcas goes back thousands of years, all in the wild, so they would be the best people's to understand how best to protect him, sadly it was a U.S. tugboat that killed him. They honoured him ina ceremony at his favorite spot Mooya Bay
LOVE this video
