Good review! I think you are right about M4 Pro base model. I have mid-2012 Retina 15.6" and it still works great for what I do on personal laptop, just browsing and streaming. But my biggest worry is that my older MBP cannot be upgraded beyond Catalina and Chrome browser no longer updates, which is a security vulnerability. There are some other reasons why I'm looking to buy new MBP, such as battery life on my old MBP is 1 hour, so I have to keep it connected to charger. My bluetooth headphones don't work well - keep getting hiss and crackle. I did install bootcamp on my old MBP, which has created only 128GB partition for MacOS, which is bothersome. I work in Enterprise Technology space, specifically hardware engineering. I use Windows laptop for business use because of app compatibility issue. I really want the new 16" MBP. But I'm unable to decide whether to get M3 or M4. Price difference is $260 between the two for similar spec models (except M3 has 16G vs M4 with 24G). I'm very careful when it comes to spending money on tech gadgets. But I don't hesitate when I see the value. I used to buy latest and greatest gear few years back, but in recent years, I noticed the upgrades aren't worth. I'd have bought M4 16" base in a heartbeat if it was $2000 with taxes.
