I found this video to be very helpful to guide me in replacing the door lock actuator on my 540i. It’s not as hard as I feared. Thank you for making this!

How long did it take you to do this project. I do allot of work on my 540i, but this one scares me a little with the tight space. At 14:25 you talk about getting the pin from the outer handle into the hole on the black plastic cover when reinstalling.. Can you use your fingers to guide the pin in the hole? Can you see that it is in correctly? Great video, vey helpful.

I replaced my door barrel lock and removed both the lock and the latch from the facelift E39 and installed everything properly, I had the battery disconnected during, I didn't do the trick the battery to help get the white plastic nut onto the latch, i got it in without doing that, but anyway the door barrel lock only works to unlock the car not lock it, the key doesn't physically turn past the middle to the lock position. Also the door lock knob on the interior doesn't push down. The central locking seems to try to attempt to push down the rod but it can't so it bobs down and back up again. I assume there is an issue with latch being in some unlocked position and stuck, or possibly it is now broken. Is there any way to fix this? It was working before, it was only the lock barrel that was broken. I assume it's nothing to do with the actuator as its a mechanical problem when the battery is disconnected. I figured out how to connect the bottom connector to the latch, my connector kept being pushed back in when you pushed the plug into it, so you had to pull out the connector with pliers then hold it there with a hook whilst you pushing in the connector. Thanks. Edit: ok i figured it out, I hadn't lined up the yellow screw hole on the latch to the centre before attaching the barrel lock. Perhaps it should be obvious but I don't remember changing the position before reassembly but maybe I didn't mate them up properly in the door with the barrel lock not horizontal.

Hey, im having an E90 and was about to replace the door lock actuator in a whole. It did fine, just until i tried to close and open the car with the remotekey. Somehow, the door doesn't lock with the remote key once the electronic thing is plugged in. The car doesnt lock any door and when i take the car on, i'm having an orange ! while the car runs. I tried 2 brand new door locks from "METZGER", nothing worked for me. Do you have any idea what's the problem? The wires look fine in that door. Thanks in advance!

Great video. One thing is you forgot to remove the Phillips screw next to the vent in order to remove the door panel. Unless yours was missing or broken
