  • Apologies for some spelling mistakes in the video.
Spending so much time studying memes have the effect that proper spelling stops existing in your brain.
Some fans are getting increasingly fed up with something as silly and inconsequential as the Sonic Twitter acount. Let's explore what's going on.

Man have I been waiting for this video for a long time.
And it couldn't have come soon enough because I have grown real sick of how the PR has just latched onto what little support it has with the cesspit of memes and bastard Game Grumps fans by trying to appease them in a vein attempt to show that SEGA (of America in particular) is in on the joke with them and now the series just reflects a husk of what it once was.
Not to mention the fact that the Sonic fanbase was before was already a volatile place to be associated with but now thanks to people who run under the logic of "Sawnik is kartoony N funz so who cares?" that's just placed a wedge between those who love the Classic era and those who love the Post UNLEASHED era as the only viable market while Adventure Era fans are stuck in shit creek while being forced to use their tongue as a paddle.
And it's of a great deal of concern to me because I don't want Sonic to be remembered as a self deprecating franchise who should've been more like that nice boy Mario instead of the "edgy Shadow and bestiality Elise hurr hurr hurr"
Because if even Sonic's PR is marketing him as "SAWNIK is fer Komedy and Kartoony Funz so who cares?" then for all intents and purposes this series is nothing more than a desecrated corpse that Died in 2010.
And yet it's channels like this that keep me in good spirits about the Blue Blur because (unlike Sonic's so called "promotional material") you guys actually dare I say CARE about the quality and spirit of the series rather than just submitting to crude Sanic jokes for the 500th time like so many others.
I mean if I were to suggest any improvements in the Sonic Social Media Outlets then I'd honestly recommend more posting of all the different aspects of what Sonic is and what people like about them (ranging from something as well known to the games themselves or even as obscure as the 1996 OVA).
Not only would it encourage discussion but it would expose the more elusive and forgotten parts of Sonic that newer fans might not have heard of and teach them more about the franchise rather than posting a meme about "SANICG0FEST".
Well in any case Kudos to the TrueSonicSpiritChannel.
    You guys rock.

Great video, the mindset that “Sonic has always been garbage and so it everything associated with him” is really irking me. I absolutely love the Archie Sonic comic, but I find that so hard to say it out loud because I know what people think, I can feel the shaming coming my way before I have even opened my mouth. F*** this bullcrap.

Otaku detected, the anime feel was only in the dreamcast era, see the classic era, with the goofy manga, the goofy cartoon show, even the archie comics in their first issues were goofy, the only sonic related thing at the time that took itsef seriously as sonic the comic and Sonic Satam, Sonic was meant to appeal to kids, K3WL KIDS of the 1990's, i fantasise more about a ren & stimpy style sonic cartoon with grossout and stupidity and Super Mario Charcaters, since, Sonic wasn't ment to be taken so seriously, and when he tried, he failed, Sonic Adventure has cheesy lines and cheesy cutscenes, i rather Sonic to be western just like it was ment to be.

It looks like the people running the Sonic franchise doesn't even know that this series changed and inspired a lot of lives. I am making a graphic novel with my own original characters and story, and the franchise that made me interested in such things is Sonic the hedgehog. It just makes me sad and disappointed to see how the people who made Sonic say, " it's just a kids' game. Who cares!?" I hope the anniversary doesn't have that mindset going in.

  • @shadesoina

It's so great to see something by you guys again xD seriously, you did a great job at explaining this, and i couldn't of put it better myself. It really makes me sad to see the fandom so toxic and broken these days.
and i can't help but look at sega for that really, it feels like a lot of them are mocking their franchise on the twitter, and even seemingly laughing at the fans having legit problems with things, instead of actualy listening and taking their thoughts into account, like we are all chris chan and can't be taken seriously because we are all mentally challenged if we don't like boom sonic, as it must just be because of the blue arms. lolol look at us poking fun out of people who don't like boom sonic. look at how funny we are!
So many fans are hoping for this 25th to bring them back to the sonic they loved. i just hope it does that i really do, as i know a lot of people are going to leave the fandom for good if it doesn't. a lot already have after the whole boom thing. it just seems like it's getting worse. i doubt the team sega have at the moment will be able to produce us a great game that captures everything sonic was, hence why i have major doubts and am honestly scared about whats going to happen for the 25th.

I sincerely hope your message gets across because this self-loathe has to stop. Instead of excited I'm actually nervous for the 25th Anniversary and movie, we haven't gotten a single piece of evidence that they will be good. Yet, we still cling on to blind hope.

It's certainly true. I decided a long while back that if the next main title Sonic game on consoles doesn't appeal to me in any way, I'm done with the series. Hey, Sonic has to prove it cares enough to give a genuine experience and the Sonic Twitter isn't helping. Hey, a meme here and a meme there is nice but the page is supposed to represent an icon and open up. Not shitposting to the max. Hope the Sonic Twitter ends up watching this and makes a few changes, at least. Nice video as always.

  • @Fractorification
    @Fractorification 8 лет назад +24

I don't understand this mentality that everything sonic related exists as it's own separate entity. From a business standpoint this is extremely flawed. You're confusing and misleading your audience into getting their interest in the franchise but later finding out that it offers nothing of what got your attention in the first place. For example if someone get's introduced with the Archie comics and falls in love with all these cool characters and adventures they'll either buy the recent games or watch the show but as soon as they do it'll lead to senseless confusion. ''Why is knuckles big? Where's Sally? Where's the action? Where are all these cool locations?'' It's pretty much how you guys described it. They just let these creative individuals do whatever they want with a brand name like sonic because they know it'll sell.

    • @ShadowTheHedgehogCZ
      @ShadowTheHedgehogCZ 8 лет назад +1

+Fractorification Or more that they know it won't sell but it doesn't matter. For Sonic it does not for some reason.

    • @Rogerregorroger
      @Rogerregorroger 8 лет назад +11

+Fractorification I think the main reason is that Sega is desperate and just trying as many things as possible, desperately trying to find that magical cheat code that'll sell millions.
Desperately looking for Sonic's incarnation of the Rabbids or the Skylanders.
Give as many visionairies the keys to Sonic as possible and EVENTUALLY one of them will find that magical formula, right?
And hey, each new incarnation get's new fans interested, right?
      And that's true.
Each new incarnation get's about a thousand new fans.
And loses a thousand old fans. So instead of an increasingly bigger fanbase, you just get more and more isolated pockets of fans all jealous, bitter and demanding THEIR specific version of Sonic back. Hooray.

    - video about Chris Chan
    - Sonic Dreams collection video
    - "I hate Sonic the Hedgehog"
    - Sonic for Hire episode about stupid fancharacters with pink Sonic thunmbnail (that one with the fat inflatable Sonic)
    - video with a fat Sonic nerd in stupid looking Sonic costume thumbnail
    - "Cringe Champions"
    - "Sonic couples rant"
    - "The Worst of the Sonic fanbase - (Cringe Compilation)"
I am not even making this up. This is what youtube recommends me to watch. Not a SINGLE one of those videos celebrating Sonic. All of them making fun of him, his games or his fanbase.
This mentality is so rabid, that not only all outsiders see Sonic franchise this way... but even the automatic algorithm that is meant to recommend other videos for us has no other option than offer us these choices. Nowadays, there are almost no other types of videos about Sonic being made in this day.
And Webber is fine with that and is celebrating it... thinking that he is "uniting the fanbase" and "making people smile". Good ******* luck with that.

There are terrible fans though, Terrible star wars fans, anime, batman, the list goes on. But for sonic? I can safely blame asshats like Screwattack, IGN, Game Grumps, BlueSpinDash, Honest Trailers, etc. for their pandering of that idiotic mentality that "Sonic sucks and the only people who like him are crazed, hypersexual, furries who have no lives" I don't like superman but I don't call his fans idiots for liking him, no matter how many flaws I can find, I can still understand why some would like him.
Back to Mario vs. Sonic. Comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges, both are fruit, that's where the similarities end.
You can bit into an apple without a second thought and you won't have any issues.
You can't eat an orange the same way you do an apple. Other wise it will taste like shit. You peel under the skin of the orange to properly digest it. Some people mind seeds, so they remove them if they spot any. Some separate the orange into slices and eat each one individually or just bite down. Again, complex, nothing like an apple.
But peeling an apple won't make a difference, it's the same damn thing no matter what you do. Apples have very little variety and even when they do, they're all borderline the same damn fruit.
But with oranges? There's tangerines, clementines, mandarins, grapefruits, etc. and each one either being more acidic, sour, or sweeter than the other.
You can't compare apples and oranges because they're both complete opposites of one another, so it would be completely unfair.
I think you are smart enough to figure out which fruit is supposed to represent Mario and which one represents Sonic.
(I'll give you a hint, Apples are more popular in North America, citrus fruit has its audience... But not as big.)

WARNING: THIS COMMENT HAS LITTLE TO DO WITH THE ACTUAL VIDEO ITSELF. (Sorry if my story is a little too personal for a video about the freaking Sonic Twitter. Since it's been a while since this channel's last update, it got me thinking...)
You know, whenever I see videos like this, videos about the way the Sonic series presents itself, or really just videos about the True Sonic Spirit, it makes me think about what I loved about the Sonic series as a kid. The characters & stories, the energy/action, and how cool/epic the games presented themselves as. They captured my imagination, and shaped who I am today. And sometimes I wonder, would it be the same if I was a little kid in the 2010's, and my experiences of the series was based on the Post-Colors Sonic? In fact, would it be okay if I told you all a story about myself?
6 years ago, when Sonic was one of my biggest interests, I started writing stories for fun. They were short, often times made very little sense, but hey, I was 10 at the time, they didn't have to be perfect. But either way, seeing as how the 3D Sonic games were some of the first games I played that had actual plots, I think they're part of the reason I wanted to tell stories and share them with the world when I grew up, especially in terms of wanting to tell my stories as video games, rather than movies or TV Shows.
    Anyway, back on track.
One of the stories I came up with, however, I never actually wrote for many years, but just thought about; it was bigger than any of my other stories, and *very* Sonic inspired; hell, it might as well have been a Sonic fan fiction with human characters.
3 years later, I decided to write my story as the script for a hypothetical video game, and it was still very Sonic inspired. I mean, the basic plot was about a team of teenagers with superpowers fighting against a mad scientist with an army of robots. Sound familiar?
I finished that script about a year later, however, shortly after, the computer I was writing it on broke down, so I started re-writing it.(In case you're wondering why I'm not saying the name or any of the specifics of my story, it's because this comment is already really long, and this is more about Sonic inspiring me to write my story, rather than the story itself.)
Over the course of the next year, I got about a third of the way through it before deciding to start from scratch and write it as a series, rather than a game. That was last year, and I'm still writing the story now. Now, over the last 6 years, it's taken on lots of other influences as well, especially from Anime, but there's still a fair amount of Sonic influence in there.
Sonic inspired me to work on this for 6 years. This story has been something I've been working on for so long, that I wouldn't be surprised if it changes my life forever once it's complete.
Think about that. Sonic games captured my imagination as a kid so much, that I still care deeply about this series and my story to this day. Sonic games inspired me to write stories, and share them with the world. Even outside of writing stories, Sonic inspired me to the point that I wouldn't say it's much of an exaggeration to say the Sonic changed my life. And in my opinion, for the better.
However, that turning point, 6 years ago, was before Sonic Colors came out. Just barely, but still, it was before the Pontaff era, and Sonic as we've known him for the past 6 years.
Now, to whoever actually managed to read this comment, let me ask you a question: Who has this Sonic inspired? Who will this Sonic inspire? Will he inspire anything, or anybody?

Also, since you're hanging around here, I wanted to ask about something: I went to the SA3 Facebook page, (and I noticed it a little bit on the SA Fans page too) and I noticed that a fair amount of Adventure-Era fans consider 2006 the cut-off year of True Sonic Spirit. Why do you think that is? At the very least, I'd say that Unleashed and Black Knight had Sonic Spirit, maybe even Secret Rings and the Riders games.
And one other question: Any chance of a new Plothole Busters coming out soon?

I think Alexander the Swell said it best. The Sonic twitter account is like that kid at the table that managed to get some people to laugh, so it desperately keeps trying to get people's attention to the point of annoyance.
Heck the Sonic twitter account succeeds in feeling like Sonic...except it's the Sonic who's "Try hard cool" and not actually cool. It emulates Colours and Boom perfectly, which is why I don't like it. It can be funny some times, but as said it feels more like self deprecation humour that follows "It's for kids, who cares."
If there's one thing I didn't think enough about, it's how Boom actually has a similar identity issue too. Not as bad as Modern, but still bad. It markets the games as adventurous, and the show as a mundane old folks home. Never thought the toys are being marketed as adventurous and action like, when the show is nowhere near that at all. The action from what I saw is basically tacked on and an after thought to what it tries to really do anyways.
I'm still peeved that Teen Titans Go is seen for what it is, and yet Sonic Boom gets a complete pass by people. They both have the same premise. Both just super heroes doing random or mundane stuff. Difference is TTG embraces it's wacky goofiness and is full of energy (But it's annoying, and rubs people the wrong way cause the original was much better), while Sonic Boom is more laid back and cynical about itself. I'd still say TTG is worse cause of the teasing it does from time to time, but it at least isn't pretending to be what it isn't. Like when Roger covered how they market Boom TV as something it's not. My main theory is since Sonic's identity is so broken and filled with mediocrity, anything not total garbage is considered good....aka Boom.

+SalaComMander I know what your trying to say but, try to see our side of this problem. We got nothing but Sonic Boom for the past two years, and that kind of content is not what we want to see in Sonic.
We want a reminder of why were fans of Sonic, but everywhere we look people are making fun of us. Even the world of Sonic is making fun of people who are invested in Sonic's world.
We feel defeated, depressed and instead of Sega trying to make us feel better, they join the attackers. It may not be intentional, but that's what were seeing.

I never understood the 'Sonic games have always been trash' argument. It's almost as if those people who proclaim that never even played Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, and 3. Yes that's digging into the 90's, and yes I am looking at it from a nostalgic perspective as I grew up with those games. However looking at them objectively, they are solid games with great controls and a fantastic visual and audio style. They are the foundation that the franchise was built upon, a foundation that if it were weak, the franchise wouldn't exist today. And that's just the first three games, over the years there has been some well made Sonic games. Yes there has been bad games, yes there's a lost sense of direction. However when you look at all the games through out the years objectively, you can clearly see that the 'Sonic games have always been trash' argument is simply a fallacy. And I understand, to each their own, a game won't ever appeal to every single person out there, and that's fine, but to make a generalization statement like that argument is just foolish. Though I suppose I'm foolish for thinking such, perhaps I'm wrong on this.

Guy, you're brilliant. I always liked serious japanese Sonic (and always will); Sonic Colours broke everything about our favourite Sonic Adventure atmosphere we love. The situation shown in official Soniic Twitter/Tumblr/Facebook/whatever (plus Sonic Boom/Toon) is showing that blue hedgehog all about jokes. But it failed, because jokes are unfunny. I once used to follow this Twitter account, but after the trash I seen there, I unfollowed it, thank godness. I feel like you're overthinking this way too much... I grew up with Sonic, my first Somic games were Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, and even Sonic Shuffle on the Dreamcast, and I don't feel like they're attacking anybody at all. In my eyes, it's just harmless fun. People get too worked up about this kind of thing... There's no reason to really blame the Sonic Twitter page. If anything, it's the fandom's fault cause nobody knows what they want anymore. Sonic Team does one thing, people start complaining and say that they want something else. Sonic Team does what they wanted, and they still complain and demand the old thing that they tried to do before. Just look at Forces. People have been wanting the boost gameplay to return since Lost World, and now they're getting it. And what are those same people doing? Complaining about "boost to win" gameplay. The Sonic Twitter is a relief for me, an escape from all the childish bickering in this god awful fanbase.

I agree that the franchise is disjoined. Sonic adventure, Classic Sonic, Modern Sonic, Boom Sonic and even the cartoons have little to nothing to do with each other.
At the same time as someone who didn't grow up with it, the jokey, light hearted Sonic stuff is really inviting. Because of that I've played a few of the Sonic games I wouldn't have. I've even pre-ordered some of the newer ones.
I agree all the Sonic stuff should become more collected. And they're fixing this problem bit by bit. I just really enjoy Sonic's different attitude when it comes to showing how much fun it is, whether good or bad. When it comes other games or series (like Zelda or Final fantasy) it's always a hit, because what they're saying or showing is amazing, or a miss because, it's so unfamiliar, and clearly a corporate move in their own best interest. But Sonic always seems to be the wild card, for better or for worse

  • @SalaComMander

Very good video, but I do have some things I would like to point out, just in case.
For example, the account has already clarified that "Sonic" and "Sanic" are separate entities. I feel as if that's the bulk of the "self deprecation" you mentioned.
Another part was the "All Sonic games are shit" attitude, which is something I'm confused about. They will make a joke about how terrible Sonic '06 was, but they don't claim all of the other games are bad, and have even defended a few.
Lastly, about Egoraptor, I feel you have greatly misinterpreted this.
First off, Egoraptor never said that he hated Sonic. He hates some Sonic games, but has said on multiple occasions that the reason he doesn't like the series is just because it's not his style. He knows many people love the games, and he says it is not wrong or right to do so. Not everything is for everyone.
When Sonic's Twitter started throwing out references to Game Grumps in their posts, they didn't self-deprecate themselves like you claim they did, they had a laugh at Arin's frustration with the fishing segments in Sonic Adventure, and so did he, and so did everyone. That is not the same as saying that Sonic Adventure is terrible, or even that Big's little section of the game is terrible.
Sonic's intention was not to "get the bully to leave him alone", and that's not what happened, either. Sonic reached out to the Game Grumps by showing there is no hard feelings between them and that they can have a mutual laugh. Because of this, Arin has not only _not_ left them alone, he has openly stated his love for Sonic's Twitter, and even Sonic as a whole.

      Some decent points. Let's see....
      1. Yeah, we know Sanic is seperate, but still (jokingly) put in place of Sonic or (sarcastically) used as main character.
Point is, Sanic REPRESENTS the entire "All Sonic is shit" idea, it's the meme people posts when mocking Sonic fans.
So parading it around seems to at least imply we're supposed to celebrate this attitude. Sarcastically perhaps, but then again, the Twitter is sarcastic about practically everything, so in the end it doesn't even matter.
Far as I'm concerned, waving Sanic in our faces is like waving Swastika's in the face of Jews.
I don't care about your intentions, that's an icon that MEANS something, that's ASSOCIATED with a dangerous idea. Be CAREFUL with it.
Sanic is an icon with a meaning, it's used by people who feel superior over Sonic and are amused that people care for something so stupid. So sure, mock it. But sparingly, and with tact. Instead it's smeared all over the place.
      2. Look, we'll be the first to admit I don't know about Egoraptor's personal opinions. We're depressed and bitter enough as it is, I have no need to go watch 500 video's of guys laughing at Sonic 06/adventure/boom.
Thing is, he represents Sonic's hatred. That's what people tune in for.
You're not going to tell me people flock to his Sonic Adventure video's because the guy will provide a rich balanced analysis, his audience comes to see our blood. Regardless of his real emotions, that's what he sells.
Egorapter is never going to shrug, and make a let's play of a good Sonic game and praise it. His own audience would be confused and feel betrayed.
And I'm okay with the Sonic twitter buddying up with him. Fine, go ahead.
But for Goodness sake, balance it out by ALSO highlighting some other folks.
Give a shoutout to Clement, to an animator, to a music remix. There's more people on the net doing cool stuff.
By fixating on the guy known for ripping Sonic games apart, and ONLY him, Sonic fans who already are paranoid and distrustful are getting more anxious by every new appearence.
This could have been a cool excuse to showcase all the wonderful things fans do over the entire net but instead it only becomes a celebration of a guy mostly known for being frustrated and angry at Sonic games. And that's supposed to bring me in the mood for the next game?
In the end, that's what this is all about.
Normally speaking, we don't care. Do whatever you want with the twitter. But right now, everyone's nervous, paranoid, bitter, distrustful. At this state, we will be unfair at the new game and be unnecesairely bitter about it even when it does a good job. This is why it's super important for the Twitter acount to set a good mood. It's a shame the new game get's a lot of negativity just because we had nothing but jokes to swallow the past decade that didn't always land well.
In the end, we're humans, not robots. A good mood and introduction is very important.

      @SalaComMander 8 лет назад +1

TrueSonicSpirit Channel I think you do not understand Sanic. You're taking it as some sort of personal attack. Comparing it to Nazism is not exactly helping, either.
Sanic is not an attack on Sonic fans. In fact, I've seen more use of it within the Sonic fandom than I've ever seen against it. It's not offensive, it's just a series of really bad drawings that look like they were made by kindergartners. It has nothing at all to do with the quality of the series, and it sure doesn't represent some conspiratorial attempt to call all of the games shitty.
And Egoraptor usually only plays the infamous Sonic games because they'll be more interesting to watch. Game Grumps strives on games that they can laugh at. However, they _do_ also play games that are critically acclaimed, and Arin allowed Jirard the Completionist to come onto Game Grumps and do a full playthrough of Sonic 3 & Knuckles (His only complaint that I can remember is the giant spiked ball in Marble Garden Zone that is put right in your path during a speed segment)
And, as someone who watched every episode of the Game Grumps playing _any_ Sonic game (except 06, because that was before I started watching), most of the fans already know that Arin is terrible at the games that he does play, and he is openly mocked for it.
As well, the Game Grumps are not the only people that Sonic's Twitter interacts with. They respond to lots of fans, and even a few other gaming companies (especially Deus Ex, which runs their Twitter very similarly).
I get that you're upset that they do put a lot of focus on Egoraptor, but those are some of the most popular tweets, and it shows all of the Game Grumps fans who don't pay attention that Sonic's PR department has no ill-will towards Game Grumps, and also shows the Sonic fans that Egoraptor and Danny have no ill-will towards Sonic.
You're right, though. There is too much negativity, and people are worried about what the big 25th anniversary game is going to be. but the Sonic Twitter is just an innocent bystander caught in the havoc caused by this worry and doubt. Whether or not they do know anything about what's coming, they wouldn't be able to say anything until an official announcement comes, so they're just doing their best to stay positive and entertain, and many people in and out of the fandom think they are doing a good job. If you don't, I now understand why, so thank you for clearing that up, and I hope I did a good job of clearing up why I (respectfully) disagree.

+SalaComMander ah yes the Adventure series now infamous, games once praised and loved are now hated by the masses. It doesn't help when the haters have a "famous" person as a poster boy for hating the games.

RicKo5896 Arin only played Adventure because he thinks it's terrible (it hasn't aged well, but it is a great game), and went out of his way to find glitches so he could prove his point. He also complained about the game not explaining things to him that were explained very clearly.
Like I said, almost everyone knows what he's doing, and he gets called out on it.
And I also said that Arin doesn't hate Sonic games in general, he just doesn't find enjoyment out of them, and that's fine. I don't find enjoyment in Final Fantasy games, and neither Arin, nor me, have ever implied that people can't enjoy what we do not.

While I see some of the points you guys are making, I think your forgetting about a lot of things the Sonic twitter does do for fans. Remember the time the Sonic twitter openly mocked GameSpot for saying that the Sonic series should die, and that Sonic Colors and Generations weren't actually good, despite their reviews saying otherwise? Remember the few times the Sonic twitter poked fun of Mario? When was the last time anything Sonic related did that? While I will agree that maybe they joke around a bit too much, I think it's, like you said, a tactic to make the haters of the series feel uncomfortable. Plus, looking at the jokes themselves, the only things that the twitter has mocked from the Sonic series are '06 and Big the Cat. There's also the numbers. I think Aaron knows we're wanting info on the new Sonic game as soon as possible, but he also knows that he can't spill the beans on the project just yet, so he keeps giving us these clues in the form of the numbers, as if to say "Guys, I know you're wanting info, I know the jokes are getting old, but just hold out a bit longer, ok?". I'm not saying it's a good strategy, but I do think he's trying at least.

+RednekGamurz Problem isn't that they're not giving us information about the new game, problem is they're not even setting the mood. Too many fans are already going into the new game with bitter and paranoid feelings before anything is shown, and that's a shame.
It could go much smoother if some effort is made to set up a better mood.
Sonic fans are indeed taking it too serious and are impatient jerks by default. Making the situation worse is only, well, making the situation worse, not?
Sonic fans can be a pain to deal with, but why unnecesairely creating EXTRA confusion and distrust?
Like it or not, Sonic kinda needs those pesky fans too. Last couple of games didn't sell really well.
Discouraging thousands of potential customers because you refuse to do anything BUT goofing off is a sad waste that Sonic possibly can't afford.

+RednekGamurz "and that Sonic Colors and Generations weren't actually good, despite their reviews saying otherwise?"
Get your facts right. They NEVER said they weren't good (even if I hate the shit of both games, but that's for another time). They said it was delusional to think these games saved Sonic, which is actually RIGHT. They failed to revitalize the series because they lacked real merits. They were only praised because either they lacked other playable characters, because of nostalgia pandering (Generations mostly), because they had "light-hearted" stories or because "they had good gameplay".
Just having good gameplay means jackshit when the Whole game is unappealing or just bland. It's like saying Pong or Tetris are the best games ever because they have good gameplay. I would dare anyone not to get sick of playing the same thing over and over.
The same applies to Colors and Generations.
" the only things that the twitter has mocked from the Sonic series are '06 and Big the Cat."
Then why not mock Boom Rise Of Lyric ? Ah right ! Because either he's a fanboy of Boom (which is true), or because SEGA's higher ups forbid him to diss Boom because they still stupidly believe it's an asset to them.
The '06 hate train is retarded and redundant at this point, though. 10 years are a LONG time, (most) people moved on.
"so he keeps giving us these clues in the form of the numbers, as if to say "Guys, I know you're wanting info, I know the jokes are getting old, but just hold out a bit longer, ok?". I'm not saying it's a good strategy, but I do think he's trying at least."
Don't even try to excuse his malpractices, please. Shitty community management is shitty when you only address to trolls or gullible people who laugh at "LAW SANIC 3FASHT5U".

      +Super Adam Bel731
Super Mario is very stable and trustworthy. The games are a joy to play, Nintendo does a great job in making it just plain fun to control Mario.
      They're solid, they're lenghty, they're well designed.
The only issue we have with Mario is that they're so primarely focused on perfecting the admittingly fine gameplay that everything else get's really downplayed, so I can't help but feel a little bit bored by the main game's setting and universe.
It's a little bland, which makes it so that we can really just buy one Mario game every 5 years and ignore the rest.
We're not missing much by skipping over a few games.
So it made us wish the games had more fun and focus on the setting and world building, like Mario Sunshine and the Mario Kart games do really well. That's the one key component that stops most of us from becoming a Mario fan.
Well, and most of us prefer a little spice and action in our platformers, and Mario's on the tame side.
Other then that, nothing but praise for a solid series.

+TrueSonicSpirit Channel If you would like to see stories and world building in Mario, you should really take a look at the Mario RPGs. I don't care too much about the casual Mario platformers, but when it comes to the RPGs, I buy every single one. The first three Paper Mario games have good to amazing stories with really nice characters. And, funny thing, the Mario&Luigi series tends to do a lot of stuff right that Sonic did wrong without Sonic even having it done wrong at the time the game was released. Sometimes I wish that Sonic Chronicles had been at least good enough to get a second chance with a sequel. Now it just left the impression that Sonic can't be in an RPG. And I think the two RPG lines are the reason why Mario fans aren't arguing about how story or comedy should be more important in the games that are actually story-driven, though it started to get out of balance with Paper Mario: Sticker Star, but I think Paper Jam got both series on the same level again.

I'm sorry but I disagree, humor is not an important part in Sonic, it clashes against the sense of adventure
yes, some humor is ok, as long as is humor from inside the game, but ever since Sonic Heroes it has that weird meta humor which says nothing but "man this is a stupid game, you should be embarassed of playing this."
I recommend you checking the OVA of Ozanari dungeon/virago in dungeon (it's old) to see how well adventure and humor can go together when done right. sonic has never been anywhere near it.
Sonic Adventure kinda captured some of it, the execution wasnt perfect, but it was ok.
the only people I see that think the humor has any importance at all, are ppl who grew up with those really weird sonic cartoons or comics, while one of the cartoons was competent being its own thing, all of them undermined the sonic franchise.
some of the backlash we have now is because people associate sonic with slapstick humor, thanks to the adventures of sonic the hedgehog, which imo was so bad, even as a kid I really wanted to like it but just couldnt.
Sonic needs a game enclosed in its own world, like sonic boom, but without the irl/internet jokes trying to get ppl to meme it.
Ozanari dungeon is the best example I can give, while the action and plot keeps building up more and more the humor is there and comes only from character interaction/situations. it doesn't distract too much, it doesn't take your focus away from the situation, if anything it emphasizes it, it makes you relate to the characters, understand them and the urgency of the situation.
Sonic Team cannot do that, so for the time being they should ditch humor all together and focus on a decent adventure at least ( which apparently they cant do either with the current team/director/producer )

This is good the old true sonic fans killed the franchise. seems like people are more easy to actually give sonic a chance now-a-days.

true sonic spirit. I love what you do and talk about, it's great but good god please get some better production design. constant breathing from the audio, choppy framerate, repeated clips. there really distracting, at least for me. I don't mean to be extra negative but consider this I'd rather listen to you on a podcast rather then watch you on youtube. continue the great commentary and analysis but put more effort in the editing please. I can't stress enough how much i like you but it's really distracting.

First, the point was not that the game is BAD because it has so many diversions, just that it muddles up the IDENTITY of the game.
And second, Yes, the game barely making taking full advantage of it's strenght and draw to be mostly focusing on gimicky distractions for most of the time can definitly be a reason why some people may dislike it.
Pretty sure many dislike Sonic adventure just because of the side gameplay.

+TrueSonicSpirit Channel for the second half of your comment i don't think its the gameplay, i think it deals more with the mentality that people, who haven't played the game, go with when playing the game. i say people go into the game with today's standards of playing games, which are to high and unfair to a game that came out in the late 90's.

    • @ManiacX1999

RicKo5896 Exactly, it was a great achievement for the time and whilst comparing it to today's standards is extremely unfair, I still found enjoyment in the game.

TrueSonicSpirit Channel Fair enough, but still, the game has to have 5 different play styles, simply because the other ones aren't as good as the first one doesn't make the entire game worth being disliked. Especially for the time when it was difficult enough as it was to get down 1 style of 3D gaming. Being it as a fair criticism, it shouldn't be a legitimate reason to dislike the entire game.

+ManiacX1999 Wait wait wait, are we talking about defending Sonic Adventure here, or Sonic Lost world?
      I think I misunderstood.
Okay, so the point is that "Sonic Lost World" feels like it has it's identity muddled by the lack of focus.
As for the "Big the Catting" statement in the text, that wasn't so much meant as an attack on Sonic adventure as more using the logic of Sonic adventure haters against them toward Lost world.
In Sonic Adventure, I approve and like the variety of the gameplay because it feels natural in that game, it's an adventure, it's about exploring Sonic's universe.
The game is honest and clear about it's intentions.
It's designed from the ground up to by open, varied and a little slow paced.
It's like a Zelda game, with the platform levels as dungeons.
My statement was only against Lost world.
In hindsight, I should have rephrased it as "By some, Sonic adventure is considered flawwed" rather then "Sonic adventure is flawwed."
Sonic Lost world is a game that's designed as, meant to be a, and praised for being a clean action packed straight Sonic platformer and THAT's where I get irritated that the game lacks focus and is fooling around with too many gimmicks.
That game is considered by those who dislike the Sonic adventure direction for "finally focusing on Sonic and delivering a pure platforming experience" so toward THAT philosophy, I raise an eyebrow.
Using poor Big the Cat as the metaphor was to extra rub the connection of "supposed bad design" into Lost world's suppsoed purity.
