Getting to do what I do is an immense privilege - one that I’ve worked extremely hard for, but that also wouldn’t have been possible without the support I’ve received along the way. From the start of my journey until now, I’ve been blessed with the most amazing village of people who have paved the way for me and have lifted me up when I thought I couldn’t go any longer. That village includes all of you - I’m so grateful for this little RUclips community. Thank you for being here 🤍
This made me so happy! You never know when a moment will be your last. Derm will be there whenever you want it to be. Go LIVE, Laugh, and Love your life while you’ve still got it. Forget the nay sayers and do what fills you up with joy. There is so much more to life than your career. 💛
Thank you for talking about gap years. It’s hard to explain to people and the necessity for us as physicians take a break if we can. Wish mine could be more glamorous but I’m so grateful for this time. All the best.
You speak so kindly about your loved ones! I took a year off nursing in 2018 and moved down under and worked as a nanny and other odd jobs. I was beyond burned out and was taking on my patients' pain, which affected how I gave care. Coming back to medicine after my sabbatical was the best feeling. I felt refreshed, excited, and motivated as a nurse. I'm needing a break once again but my life is more complicated now and I can't just leave anymore huhuhu. Looking forward to what you get up to during your break!
I've been here since your intern year! It's amazing to see how far you've come. I feel like you're very down to earth and as an IMG candidate for IM this next season, I really needed to see this today. We're so much more than medicine. You have your priorieties right, this is so rare nowadays. I'm very excited to see the next videos of your time off, you'll definetely come back with a fresh set of eyes. So excited for you!
Something than worried me more its to think than i need sacrifice my own life and my personal life for medicine, than its something than i really love and yea, my dream its being a derm. But i understand than its gonna happend but life its passing and if i dont take time for enjoy it today? so i truly know than its gonna happend im gonna be a dermatologist and a good one. But at the time its happend i decide to enjoy what its happening now and what i need now. And attending me. Because if i wanna take care of others that needs starts with me. Thank you so much for that. That was a relief. I admire you soo much❤❤🌸🌸
This is what hard work is. Not the immediate gratification of stealing, cheating into school, handouts, lowering standards, blaming others, screwing around and expecting equity.
Not everyone has that patience and courage and not everyone can go through these situations as we ,,dreamers" can,yet at the same time stay positive, support your family, make everything and everyone be well. The support, focus, persistence, love and Faith are the most significant things that matter, especially if you come from family who fights alone, every member is a main link. At the end,we aren't mashines,we need a break,to put back our thoughts and see what we are going to do and be in future, firstly to be healthy. I wish you all the best Dr Madalyn, and completely understand you...I can tell that I am in the same situation in which you were at your beginning. Sending love from Serbia🥰🌹❤️
This video was perfection. In my 3rd gap year after undergrad to med school and also a first Gen Vietnamese American and I feel so stuck and lost especially with trying to take the mcat and apply to med school all while my dad transitioned to hospice care for end stage Parkinson’s disease. It’s a lot all at once and I felt like life was so unfair to me. But after seeing so many other life events happen to people and working in the hospital- you really don’t know when your last day is and it’s scary. Carpe diem is all we can do! Getting over these mountains feels so difficult but it’s not impossible! Thank you for this video.
Oh love.. you’ve juggled so so much and your family is clearly so lucky to have you. Med school will always be there if you want to pursue it in the future, do what’s right for you and your family now. Sending all my love 💗
