I've never homeschooled, but I admire those who do, and I think this video was very helpful for anyone considering homeschooling for the first time. It's disappointing to see so many moderately and highly regulated states. Educating our children is the sole responsibility of the parents (whether we choose to educate them ourselves or entrust others). We sincerely need to stop abdicating this responsibility to government. However parents choose to educate, I strongly encourage them to be involved and be an advocate (run for school board, join the Parents' Association, develop relationships with teachers and admin, etc.). Even if parents choose not to homeschool, they CAN choose to be involved!
Well said! I agree on EVERYthing you just said. It is sooooo important for the parents to be involved especially in today's culture! Thank you for your kind words my friend.
Thank God our state is hands-off completely on hs (bc we lobby hard as a voting block mind you), idkh y’all in highly regulated states do it. Completely agree with testing. Good luck on the move!
It's actually not all that bad...notice of intent and an annual test. Could be worse I guess. It's more of an inconvenience than anything and the fact that I don't think we owe the state anything. These are our children not there's amen? Lol...can't wait to get to AK where we will have more homeschooling freedom. :)
Thank you so much! I’ve been struggling to find the testing products and how to become an administrator. Other websites are not nearly as straight forward as Seton.
Hi Jenny. I've heard that this is rare...but the school board puts the parent on notice & basically you get another chance to improve. If the child doesn't improve by the next year, they legally, "technically" the way the homeschool law is written, require the parent to re-enroll the student in public school. But I've never heard of that happening. The school board works with the parent & in a lot of cases that I've heard of...they just monitor & as long as the parent/student are trying and there's improvement, they leave them alone.
I just ordered this test. Second grade for my " third grader" who's supposed to be in 4th. I'm ready to unschool if I get any shit. My home has an abundance of learning materials and I do my best. She writes script perfect but not so great at spelling. With the way the world is, keeping children mentally healthy is as important as secular and spiritual knowledge. My state pa is great and will help if I need but I'm not to worried. I got nerve wrecked 2 years ago about homeschooling but i can't let that overtake me.
Hi Chaney! Are you looking for what you can start doing with him at 2 yrs old or when he starts your homeschool? There are so many curriculums to choose from but we love CLE Christian Light Education! 😊 Here’s their link if you want to check it out. All the different grades are on there. It’s Bible based & straight to the point, not a lot of fluff! christianlight.org/
@@HomeFreeAlaska thank you for your reply. I started educating him right from the go. No baby talk etc. at 19 months he can identify 100 plus animals, pick out numbers called out to him between 1-100, along with a host of other things. I looked into the group you mentioned and joined the lifetime option, but yes I plan on doing a Christian based education as I was, and just wondering what are some good options. I already have been collection OLD books of knowledge to incorporate into his learning about the real history of things. MO seems to be very home friendly.
I'm confused , because I homeschool my daughter with Abeka accredited in Va. and I sent the prove of progress Wich is the progress report that Abeka sent me , am I doing something wrong ? Please I need some clarification 🙏
Hi Dennia, I'm not 100% sure about that. I don't send transcripts, I always do an annual standardized test for my son & send the results to our superintendent. If you're in doubt, check out the HSLDA website & click on your state of VA to see exactly what they require. You can find the website here -> hslda.org/post/how-to-comply-with-virginias-homeschool-laws I've copied & pasted for you straight from the HSLDA website, but I encourage you to go there and read the requirements for VA. Also, the best thing to do if you're still unsure is call your school board to verify that the transcripts will be acceptable. I hope that helps! "There are four types of evaluations you can submit: 1. Results of any nationally-normed standardized achievement test showing the child attained “a composite score in or above the fourth stanine” (i.e., 23rd percentile)-this could be an ACT, SAT, or PSAT score. 2. An evaluation letter from a person licensed to teach in any state, or a person with a master’s degree or higher in an academic discipline, who knows about the child’s academic progress, stating that the child is achieving an adequate level of educational growth and progress. 3. A report card or transcript from a community college or college, college distance learning program, or home-education correspondence school; or 4. Another type of “evaluation or assessment which the division superintendent determines to indicate that the child is achieving an adequate level of educational growth and progress.” (If you plan to submit this type of assessment, you should discuss this with the school system early in the school year.)
We just completed our 3rd year of Homeschooling and we live it. Thanks for sharing.... this is wonderful advise.
Awesome congrats on your 3rd year! We love it as well, can't imagine doing it any other way! :)

What happens when they are evaluated by the State or Distric and they are not at a grade level does the parent gets in trouble?

Our son turns 2 in February but will be homeschooled. Any advice on a good Christian based study.
