Madrid has done a phenomenal job reinventing itself over the past 20 years. What once was a traffic choked mess is now one of the world's greenest and most pedestrian friendly large cities. Most noteworthy is how they unlocked their river from the grip of a highway and transformed the palace district into a massive car-free zone. Add all this to all the history, food scene, incredible architecture, a world-class metro network, beautiful parks, and city planners who are never afraid to dream big, and you got yourself one of the world's greatest cities. Move aside Paris, Europe has a new star!

Thank you for your nice video. I am from Madrid and I have waited this project for a very long time. It is a pity that the fight among politicians, judges and enviromental organizations have delayed it for a lot of years.
The project is nice although I would have preferred a little bit more ambition regarding the height of skyscrappers. Its height is limited around 300 m or a little bit more. But, anyway, it is a great project. Madrid is the most hectic and global city in the South of Europe and is always offering new project for ameliorating citizen's life. Everybody is welcome to Madrid, the opposite of Barcelona, which is like a closed village much more interested in nationalism and things that do not interest anyone, while the delinquency and the dirt are all around the town.

The biggest problem that I see is that Europeans like cities with a "soul" and a feeling of history. When whole neighborhoods at created from scratch they often can't really accept that. For example here in Vienna they built a whole mini city called "Aspern Seestadt". It was build in just a few years from scratch and is very modern, well planed, has a lot of green but still is it really unpopular. One problem is that it's kind of far away from the city center. But it has a subway connection and there are other parts of the city that are worse connected but very popular. The main criticism is that it lacks soul and culture. Maybe in some years it will develop that.
I see your point, but I also think in Europe we create new Skyscrapery neighbourhoods separate from the old cores to protect the old core, accepting we need to put the big buildings somewhere.
Is see this more as like a La Defense, Canary Wharf etc, although seems better planned than both of those!
I agree entirely with what you said about Europeans liking a city that's a bit more historic, but where Madrid Nuevo Norte is going to be built is not replacing anything remotely historic/desirable. I think it's a good project.
Aspern Seestadt is in the middle of nowhere. Is a very bad example, cause this is in the center of Madrid and the 31 % of the house are public. The weather in Mdrid is great most of the year and latin people love to socialice in the street. Is gonna be a very popular area . The criticism in Madrid was around the lack of public houses.

This isn't revolutionary. Building hideous green-washed glass blocks is nothing new, and is only destructive to cities. Madrid is definitely going backwards with this project.

The chruch we can see in the middle of the video was the Virgin of sea's is near to the royal palace. It was built because the King Charles III want to conect the manzanares River with a warterway but the budget was too expensive.

Pues si no has oído la noticia es que no has querido. Lleva casi 30 años de proyecto, replanteamiento y reformas del proyecto hasta que se han puesto de acuerdo todas las partes y el tema ha salido hasta en la sopa.
Build it. Now. The area around Charmartin is a bit scruffy and a redesigned station is welcome.
London King's Cross/St. Pancras and Vienna's Hauptbahnhof regenerations are
good examples of what Madrid also wants to achieve. Housing, office space, shops, green space, a generally better feel and look. It might be a brave new world look architecture wise but it's 2023. Stuttgart, Germany is doing something similar right now, i.e. new station, covering up the tracks and building a better surrounding for residential, office, parks, shops. Munich's East Bahnhof is another example. Charmartin and Atocha stations are now connected via a train
tunnel allowing for through travel. Progress.
Let's hope Spain doesn't slide into another financial crisis before the project is finished.

From what I understand a large percentage of housing will be public (subsidized) to avoid a wealthy-only neighborhood.

The most legit social part will probably be in the better train station for all income levels.
As a resident in Madrid near the new proyect, i am happy to know that they will bring some mobility to the north, apart from office buildings. Northern district people have to go through over half hour commutes (the shortest commute) in public transport to get to the city center because all the life is there. Nobody ever has to come to the northern districts because they already have everything there and we barely have anything near.

Vive mejor alguien con un sueldo normal en cualquier mediana ciudad de España que un madrileño con un sueldo normal. El coste de vida no está acordé con el salario. Eso no quiere decir que no haya gente que vive bien, pero hay mucha que anda justo. Y lo que hay es mucha ayuda de los padres.
@@davidfernandez9791 totalmente pero en cualquier ciudad mediana de España no hay la oferta laboral que hay en Madrid, si la hubiera la gente se iria a esas ciudades medianas y dejarían de ser ciudades medianas y dejarían de tener un coste de vida menor. Y viceversa si la oferta laboral desapareciera de Madrid el coste de vida en Madrid tambien se reduciría. O lo que es lo mismo el coste de vida va asociado indirectamente a las opciones laborales con la salvedad del teletrabajo.

Igual estoy siendo un ignorante, corregidme cualquier cosa si me equivoco, pero por qué hacer Madrid más grande? Suficiente atasco hay en carreteras y transporte público en hora punta todos los días, suficientemente vacias están las provincias de los alrededores como para encima desarrollar más y más aún la capital? No le veo el sentido, por qué no desarrollar más otros lugares del país? Vamos a acabar viviendo todos los castellanos en una mega ciudad y no entiendo para que, y eso que soy madrileño.
Las grandes ciudades atraen población e inversiones, esto es simplemente Madrid haciendo espacio para nuevas inversiones y poblaciones.
Es cierto que hay que repoblar las provincias del interior, pero eso no implica desviar las inversiones de Madrid, fundamentelmente cuando estas han sido financiadas por el gobierno local/regional, habría que invertir en ambas zonas para que Madrid siga siendo económicamente dinámico y un motor de crecimiento y desarrollo, y dinamizar las provincias en decadencia

La nueva estación de Chamartín va a costar más de 1 000 000 000 euros y eso lo va a pagar el gobierno de España. No el regional.

Don't lie. The big cities in the South have access to modern hospitals, tube and every capital-level services. Financial district (Castellana, Bernabéu, Plaza Castilla, Nuevos Ministerios, etc. ) is located already in the North and this project is just an extension of it.

Mejor tener rascacielos y parques que tener miles de km 2 de edificios de 4 pisos y casi ningún parque y todo mal cuidado pq cuesta mantenerlo .No es eficiente el modelo de 4 pisos .
Estando tan lejos del centro y tan cerca de otros rascacielos no creo que tengan un gran impacto en la estética de Madrid
@@AlexiAtlante Es más eficiente una ciudad concentrada, semejante a los ensanches del siglo XIX que una ciudad de grandes torres rodeadas de jardines y parques, en la que la gente se tiene que mover en coche para trabajar, eso último se probó en la segunda mitad del siglo XX en Europa y esos barrios son hoy considerados de los peores de sus respectivas ciudades.
Si fantástico pero quien se va a beneficiar. Los magnates de la construcción. Donde están los intereses sociales? PISOS PARA RICOS. Quien controla los costes y calidades. Muchas oficinas para crear empleos pero los empleados tendrán que vivir en zonas lejanas porque los nuevos pisos serán para los directivos con sueldos altos.
