Therefore, even if you are in Japan always be aware, we usually never expect these things to happen to us and hopefully it does not but it's still likely to happen to anyone.

I’ve heard of this story before.
It’s truly a disturbing story, both the crime itself and how the killer managed to slip away by altering his face with plastic surgery. Sounds like the plot to a horror movie or a comic book villain. But so horrifying.

Judges being lenient is a common thing, welp to some if not most countries, not just in Japan. I interviewed a local Judge who sentence a man 💀(before 💀 was indefinitely suspended in my country) once.
The judge told me that he was willing to give the accused a lighter sentence (Life) if he admitted his guilty which the latter didn't
