As cool as that would be, it is highly unlikely, I'd even say impossible, that stories of Gigantopethicus could have been embedded in the culture of modern humans. Gigantopethicus only possibly overlapped with H. Erectus in Central Asia, not modern humans. Modern humans would only have intruded into the former range of Gigantopethicus tens of thousands of years after it had died out, so this hypothesis relies not only on H. Erectus culturally preserving stories of Gigantopethicus for tens of thousands of years in a strictly oral tradition (by itself something pretty much unheard of even among modern humans) but also supposes a cultural exchange between H. Erectus and invading H. Sapiens involving extremely ancient tales being now preserved by a different species of human. - Yeah, it's just not gonna happen.
