I was 4 years kid...now I understood the total concept of dialysis and now scared to see all this that I've gone through all this pain. I pray to God never ever such things happen to anyone. I was two when my kidney's failed. My grandma said that going through Dialysis was all I knew at the time. Thankfully I didn't have to wait long for a donor. I currently have my father's kidney. Now that he's gone it's all I have left of him, but I could lose it soon. If my lab work doesn't improve soon then I'll need another transplant.

My Brother donated a kidney to his wife 12 years ago. It lasted about 5 years and it quit. She was on dialysis 3 times a week. She was about 76 . She was on a waiting list for kidney for 2 years. Mayo clinic said he was a match so he gave her one. He has done well with his one kidney. He will be 90 years old in couple months and active. He said it was a snap for him.. hurt for few days then no problems at all.. Donors are the best thing. You could do to give life to someone suffering. People should consider it.

Update: Dialysis caused my mom to vomit and the temporary nursing home she was in for PT and Dialysis let her vomit an entire night until it was coffee ground consistency. She ended up being placed on hospice. She died Oct 2nd 2022. 💔💔

as prevention yes, but this would eventually kill you with reduced renal function, left ventricular diastolic dysfunction and maladaptive LV hypertrophy, not to mention acities, pulmonary oedema and increased BP and subsequently more fluid needs to be removed during dialysis and you get further ischemic injury from the haemodynamic perturbations during the treatment. This is my PhD and its a very complex condition.

I’ve had blood drawn a few times. To fill a few vails, do some blood tests. I’ve felt it leave my body and my hand go a little cold and numb from the lack of blood. It’s not a very pleasant sensation. If I had to sit and watch my blood leave my body and fill an entire tube I think I would pass out, which I’ve never had happen to me before. Of course you’d get the blood back eventually but wow. People who live with this are something special.

While your huge biceps may look great to you, or your extremely toned glutes or your abs, your heart is still the most important muscle. Don’t forget to do cardio in the gym because slightly smaller biceps is worth it if it means a healthy heart.

I agree 100% my mother was getting weaker and weaker while on dialysis for 5 years and then she died after that. Somebody before went in to a coma unresponsive and did not wake up and died from it. That tell you dialysis is like a life sentence to death. This treatment is very dangerous one because it may keep you here for a short while, but the end result is death. and that a fact. I watch my mother die from this and it was traumatizing to watch. People don't live long on dialysis.

@@drexq_477 People don't die from dialysis per se. Your mother must have had other complications. My mother has been on dialysis for the past 18 years and she's doing OK. She's 80.

Wow! Medical technology has really come far in the last several decades. It's quite impressive to know that we've been able to discover the biological repercussions of, and limitations caused by kidney failure, and overcome them with machines. Makes me hope that someday people with Kidney failure will be able to be treated by nanites that clean the blood for them, or maybe even ways to grow or even regenerate healthy, compatible Kidneys so that someday people will call this method barbaric :)

@1RadicalOne Actually fistulas are very strong and tend to last many years, longer than the graft.
What the fistula does is expand and strengthen the vein connected to the artery making repeated needle insertions easier and with less risk.
People with veins which are not expected to expand to a big enough size or strength are given the graft.
In the graft is where you would insert the second needle, instead of the vein, but grafts tend to clot much more and sometimes cause infections.

@pineapple express: In USA not get kidney from someone. They think about their enjoyed life. So focus on some other person who really come to help you. So many kidney patient died in USA waiting for kidney in US. So doctors know very well procedures. Sometimes God give some opportunities for getting better life. We showing negligence and we loss that. So live some reality, and think some different angles. Thank you for contacting me. Bye. Take care

@TheSarahABrown Hey, using a catheter is an option (via subclavian or int.jugular) but it's mostly the very high risk of infection that makes AV fistula the preferred option. The catheter is useful in an emergency though cos you don't have to wait 6 weeks for it to be ready.
