    Thank you all so much for taking the time to watch my video with little Ava. I just wanted to take a moment and answer some of your questions that I’m receiving. First of all, yes, I am completely blind. I do not see at all through my prosthetic scleral shells. I still have my natural eyes and the prosthetic eyes sit on top which give me a natural appearance. My real eyes are very small, but they still move beautifully. The prosthetic eyes are like really really large contact lenses that are made out of acrylic and are hand-painted, custom design for me. It’s not gross, it’s just plastic. I’ve had so many people complain about it being disgusting, but I am the same person with or without my eyes. What I was doing in this video was trying to help a child who is going through the same thing as me, and trying to help take away her fears. Now little Ava is in the process of getting her own prosthetic scleral shell like me! And about her saying she can feel the green, in fact, you can actually feel color if you understand the correlation between color and texture. If you close your eyes and felt grass, leaves, dirt etc., You would know just by texture the color. If you have seen the color of an object in the past, and you know the texture of that object, you do not have to see it to understand. This obviously doesn’t apply to all things, but it does in this situation. Does that make sense? However I know it sounded funny LOL. Lastly, I just want to thank you all for the ones who have given me lots of encouraging and beautiful comments. I truly appreciate all of you who have subscribe to my channel because of this video. I am so amazed And am so grateful for all of you! This is why I have my channel and why I love to make videos like this. Life isn’t about just living for yourself, but it’s about living to help others.I want to use my blindness to inspire others to see that you can find joy in the mist of a dark circumstance. Helping others gives me so much joy and gives me such purpose and fulfillment in my life. If any of you have further questions about me, or my blindness, Please feel free to comment below and I will try to answer all your questions. Also, if you are on Facebook and would also like to follow me there, you can find me at the link below. My Facebook page is called, “through the eyes of joy”. God bless and I hope to hear from you all soon! facebook.com/pg/throughtheeyesofjoy/about/

      my dad who is 57 he lost his right eye when he was VERY young due to cancer. He barely survived and ended up getting a glass eye. He still has this glass eye to this day and he never takes it out. He is still self conscious to this day because when little kids talk to him they are scared because of his eye and it is just really emotional, growing up with a dad who is so self conscious about his eye and just exposing to his children what happened and for me to now look at him normally I don’t really see how unatural the eye really looks. He can’t even afford a new glass eye even though it would help him so much. Anyways this really teared me up, thank you..

    And by the way you guys, little Ava has to cited to move forward with getting her own prosthetic eye! Isn't that so amazing?!! Because I took a moment out of my day to share with her my story, I was able to calm her fears and inspire her that she's not alone! You see, this is what life's about! Living beyond yourself to help someone else in need! #MakingADifference

      You see, this is the kind of behavior that shows some parts of society are good. I remember back when I used to go to public school, being bullied about my ASD/Asperger's. I hope Ava can be confident with what she has, as a prosthetic eye is not a bad thing no matter how many people may tell her it supposedly 'is'. And your appearance represents that of your heart, Joy: beautiful. #MakingADifferenceIndeed

      Elsie Bloom That is so sweet of you to say. Thank you, I definitely would make anyone feel confident. I always tell new friends that a blind person is the best friend you could ever have LOL. I’m not sitting there looking at you judging you based on what you look like or what you’re wearing, I am judging you based on your heart, the person who you truly are inside. One of my best friends used to be so insecure, but after getting to know me she has found so much confidence. I love building up people not tearing them down.

    This is amazing, I don't know how I'd cope without my eyesight. You can see that the girl is quite scared about her situation and you've totally helped her calm down about it! One question though.. is it not quite hard to put the prosthetic eye back in if you can't see? Or do you have some vision? X

      @JoyRoss  7 лет назад +51

      Amy Docherty thank you, yes, I was so happy to know that I encouraged little Ava to not be so scared. And to your other question, I do not have any vision at all but I do not need to see to put my prosthetic eyes in. I do everything by touch and feel.

      This stories sometimes make me think about how lucky I got and how I have to therefore do everything in my power to help people with disabilities. That's why I became a Be My Eyes volunteer! The story I'm referring onto why I was lucky is that when I was a small child I felt down some stairs and poked my face right next to my eyes and I now have a very deep scar at just a couple milimiters away from my eye, so I could have easily been hit right in my eye!

It may not look like anything to them but to me it is everything. petsticklesgirl oh I'm so sorry. I totally understand your pain. I have suffered from juvenile arthritis since I was three years old and now both of my girls have the disease as well. Even though we cannot change our situation, I still hold on to faith and believe that something good can always come from a bad circumstance. For me, I would not be able to help others going through some much pain if I have not gone through the Hell I have lived through. My complete blindness and arthritis has given me my purpose in life… Because of my blindness, God has helped me to see more beautifully through the eyes of my heart and has given me perspective to see that in spite of my loss, I am so blessed!. I pray you will find relief from your juvenile arthritis and that it will go into remission. God bless you💙

    • @joydavis9264
      @joydavis9264 4 года назад +2

      I think Ava was just shaking her head to the question, "Do you have any questions about it hurting," because she was being shy & didn't want to ask a question in the video but her mother had obviously had discussions with her child & had been told she was afraid it would hurt, so that was just a mom interjecting (naturally) because the child was having a shy moment & the mom wanted Joy to be able to have that opportunity as someone with real experience to reassure Ava about it. Nothing wrong with that. She obviously wasn't forcing the idea of being scared onto the child, just answering more honestly for her based on previous discussions during a shy moment for the child.

      Because she's scared and she's probably going to have one of her own very soon. It's important to ask kids things like that so they can say no if they want to, not just assume they won't want to because they're kids.

    How amazing my god, such strength I see in both of you. I’m impressed how amazing her eyes look, and how even though she can’t see at all she still looks at the little girls face and it looks so real like she can totally see her. I loved this video

      Paula Diaz you are so sweet, thank you. And yes, even though I cannot see anything with my eyes, I know how to give people eye contact by listening to their voice. I always focus on engaging with those who I’m talking to just like anyone else would. God bless you and have a beautiful night.

    • @JoyRoss

      And actually I do feel like I see those who I’m talking to even though I don’t physically see them with my eyes. As I listen to their voices, I imagine them in my mind. Sometimes I completely forget that I am blind because I see so much through my other senses, my minds eye, and through the eyes of my heart. God is truly blessed me more than words could ever say.
