It feels as though one is taken back to our pre earth life. Watching the creation. I feel the imagery and feel the truthfulness of the lyrics. I believe in Christ. He is my king.
I feel the same way. I heard it for the first time earlier today. I can't stop listening to it. In fact, I'm going to listen to all versions of it on YT. It's so mesmerizing and ethereal.
A hymn written by a British Baptist minister. Thanks be to God! (Anglican here that is captured by the Transdentals - truth, beauty, and goodness. All point to the Trinity.)
This is a phenomenally beautiful song. Such a testimony to the Most High God sung with faith, conviction, and great technical skill by the Tabernacle Choir. I suppose that one day they - and all of us - will have a chance to sing this hymn in His Holy Presence. May that day come soon
If I started crying while singing i would just be a mess up there crying on someones shoulder as they hugged me so im not sure id be a very good candidate for the tab choir lol
I remember a few years ago when I was at my grandparents' house. (Note, I'm a Catholic but I don't go to church. I do believe in God though). I was just minding my own business watching Lets Plays on RUclips when this song played on the TV. I paused my video and took off my headphones so I could listen to it. I even asked my grandfather to go back to the beginning of the song so I could write down the name of it. Never have I been so moved by a hymn before. Maybe video game tracks or songs in movies, but never a hymn. But this brought me such an intense feeling of melancholy. The key that it's in brings a tranquil feeling of sorrow that put me at peace emotionally. Even years later I still come back and listen to it once more just to experience emotional peace once again.
So relatable! I heard it for the first time, I believe, earlier this morning. I can't stop listening to it. I love how you wrote "a tranquil feeling of sorrow." That's very eloquent and describes how I feel as well. I love the sound of music written in minor keys (not super common). Minor keys tend to make music sound more ethereal, which is very fitting for this piece. I hope you will find more peace in your life in God and His son. 🙂
Re read the words as u listen again. You'll feel more love from Christ than ever felt before. Listen to it and come unto him. It's never too late in life
He needs only to look, and ten thousands of Angels rejoice! Their faces the cherubim veil in his sight and tremble with fullness of joy! This is exactly what I picture it like being in the presence of the Father.
This hymn has really grown on me since I first heard it.... it is the very essence of peace both from its quiet melody to the sublime words - but mostly its unique focus our Savior Jesus Christ. Very moving.....
That just made me shaky!! And my jaw dropped. And I was thinking reasonable thoughts about God for once. I know my thought are false most of the time idk why I can’t line them up. But when I’m at the temple, or when I just listined to this song, the Spirit helps me know that He genuinely loves me
For some reason the melody this hymn gives me is the feeling of preparing for the end of times against the adversary and his army. There will come a time very soon when we in the gospel will be called upon to physically fight to defend and uphold what we know to be true. For the second coming of the Savior.
How grateful I am that God can at least bless those who despitefully use him; because without wanting to or intending to, we all despitefully use him sometimes. I am grateful for God’s mercy.
I listened to this music last Sunday on the LDS music stream and was thrilled by it. I tried to find out the title but couldn't. However, today, I typed some words (hymn, recorder) into RUclips and found it. Thank you for the wonderful music.
This is my kind of tune!! :0 so coooooollllll. My friend recommended to me because it calms him. I’ve not been particularly feeling alot lately, but when I do again I’ll probobly think this song is absolutly amazing. I love songs about Jesus
Sublime. Absolutely ethereal. Body chilling and misty-eye inducing. And sung by the Tabernacle Choir as no other choir could do. Thank you for your heavenly music always.
“He speaks, and eternity filled with His voice,” a haunting melody with verses carrying magnificent visions to our souls. Thank you for this wonderful video.
Calm & tranquility for this song, it lights up your day, because how beautiful are the singing woman, who righteously live their lives spreading peace & joy from their kind voices echoing of angels pure strength in their numbers with blue robs, this is sweet to hear for the first time!
Someone asked for the lyrics, here they are, see below... I was at conference and was so touched by the spirit during this song.... absolutely beautiful. His voice, as the sound of the dulcimer sweet, is heard through the shadows of death; The cedars of Lebanon bow at His feet, the air is perfumed with His breath. His lips as the fountain of righteousness flow, that waters the garden of grace, From which their salvation the Gentiles shall know, and bask in the smile of His face. (instrumental interlude) Love sits in his eyelids and scatters delight, through all the bright regions on high. Their faces the cherubim veil in his sight, and tremble with fullness of joy. He looks and ten thousands of angels rejoice, and myriads wait for His word. He speaks and eternity filled with His voice Re-echoes the praise of the Lord. (instrumental interlude) He looks and ten thousands of angels rejoice, and myriads wait for His word. He speaks and eternity filled with His voice Re-echoes the praise of the Lord.
“He looks and ten thousands of angels rejoice, and myriads wait for His word. He speaks and eternity filled with His voice Re-echoes the praise of the Lord.” Fun fact this is also the last verse of Redeemer of Israel
I love the verses that were added to this hymn, but here is the original hymn as written by Joseph Swain in 1791, with all verses: His voice as the sound of the dulcimer sweet, Is heard through the shadows of death; The cedars of Lebanon bow at his feet, The air is perfumed with his breath. His lips as the fountain of righteousness flow, That waters the garden of grace; From which their salvation the Gentiles shall know, And bask in the smiles of his face. O! thou in whose presence my soul takes delight, On whom, in affliction, I call; My comfort by day, and my song in the night, My hope, my salvation, my all- Where dost thou at noontide resort with thy sheep, To feed on the pastures of love? Say why in the valley of death should I weep, Or alone in the wilderness rove? O! why should I wander an alien from thee, And cry in the desert for bread? Thy foes will rejoice when my sorrows they see, And smile at the tears I have shed. Ye daughters of Zion, declare, have you seen The Star that on Israel shone? Say if in your tents my beloved has been, And where, with his flock, he is gone? "What is thy Beloved, thou dignified fair? What excellent beauties has he? His charms and perfections be pleased to declare, That we may embrace him with thee." This is my Beloved, his form is divine; His vestments shed odor around; The locks on his head are as grapes on the vine, When autumn with plenty is crowned. The roses of Sharon, the lilies that grow In the vales, on the banks of the streams, On his cheeks in the beauty of excellence blow, And his eyes are as quivers of beams. His voice as the sound of the dulcimer, sweet, Is heard through the shadows of death; The cedars of Lebanon bow at his feet, The air is perfumed with his breath.

Love it 👏🏾 this is one of my favorite hymns since a child because it reminded me of the Tapion's Ocarina song from Dragonball Z. Lol thanks for sharing!!
The tune is called Samanthra, the lyrics are primarily from the bible, and the arrangement draws my soul as well. So much so that i bought an alto recorder and learned to play it. I love the way it invokes a rare reverence

I am a United Methodist and I join you all in singing this wonderful hymn.
come visit us some day :)
I cannot listen to this without tears.
This is the most beautiful song I have ever heard. Listen to it every Sunday. To me that is what heaven must sound like.
I haven’t stopped listening to it since I heard it. I feel the exact same way
It feels as though one is taken back to our pre earth life. Watching the creation. I feel the imagery and feel the truthfulness of the lyrics. I believe in Christ. He is my king.
I feel the veil is parted when I hear this song.
I feel the same way. I heard it for the first time earlier today. I can't stop listening to it. In fact, I'm going to listen to all versions of it on YT. It's so mesmerizing and ethereal.
Listen to it with stereo noise canceling headphones ❤ there aren't adequate words to describe it....
I love this music
A hymn written by a British Baptist minister. Thanks be to God! (Anglican here that is captured by the Transdentals - truth, beauty, and goodness. All point to the Trinity.)
I can still remember how powerfully influenced by the spirit I felt when I heard this song over two years ago.
This is a phenomenally beautiful song. Such a testimony to the Most High God sung with faith, conviction, and great technical skill by the Tabernacle Choir. I suppose that one day they - and all of us - will have a chance to sing this hymn in His Holy Presence. May that day come soon
The woman at 2:18 is in tears 😭😭😭 This song is soooo peaceful! God bless the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She is! I'm surprised they all aren't. This is the most beautiful, peaceful song I believe ever heard!
If I started crying while singing i would just be a mess up there crying on someones shoulder as they hugged me so im not sure id be a very good candidate for the tab choir lol
Yes. May the Trinity we adore save the LDS and the precious people in it.

One of my favorite song!
Sublime, unexpected, for a moment I went to heaven during the conference...
2:18 That is a level of self-control I will never master
He needs only to look, and ten thousands of Angels rejoice! Their faces the cherubim veil in his sight and tremble with fullness of joy! This is exactly what I picture it like being in the presence of the Father.

I heard it for the first time this morning. It's so surreal. I can't stop listening to it. 🙂
I just discovered this reverent hymn - BEAUTIFUL!❤
That just made me shaky!! And my jaw dropped. And I was thinking reasonable thoughts about God for once. I know my thought are false most of the time idk why I can’t line them up. But when I’m at the temple, or when I just listined to this song, the Spirit helps me know that He genuinely loves me
Gorgeous. That is all. Mack Wilberg has worked miracles with this wonderful choir. Their respect and love for his work is apparent.

Thank you for tuning in! We are so glad to hear you enjoyed this General Conference.
Wow, beautiful powerful hymnal, thank you Tabernacle Choir.
For some reason the melody this hymn gives me is the feeling of preparing for the end of times against the adversary and his army. There will come a time very soon when we in the gospel will be called upon to physically fight to defend and uphold what we know to be true. For the second coming of the Savior.
It does, doesn't it? It's a sad, melancholy piece while hopeful at the same time. It's very beautiful! 🙂
Wow
How grateful I am that God can at least bless those who despitefully use him; because without wanting to or intending to, we all despitefully use him sometimes. I am grateful for God’s mercy.
Every time I hear this song or any song the Tabernacle choir sing I get uplifted and I feel God's presence! Glory to God 🙌🙌

Love it 👏🏾 this is one of my favorite hymns since a child because it reminded me of the Tapion's Ocarina song from Dragonball Z. Lol thanks for sharing!!
What is the story behind this hymn? What do the lyrics mean? Does anyone know? Such a lovely song... it seem to speak something to my heart.
The tune is called Samanthra, the lyrics are primarily from the bible, and the arrangement draws my soul as well. So much so that i bought an alto recorder and learned to play it. I love the way it invokes a rare reverence
Perhaps read the lyrics and draw your own conclusions. Or you could look into the composer, and see if there were any thoughts he gave on it.
I need to know too
I would like to have a translation into Spanish of this hymn, I love it, I would like to sing it in Spanish, can someone help me?

It's beautiful. I put the lyrics here so I can sing my little guy to sleep. Gets him every time.
