  • The devastating flooding in November 2021 caused extensive damage to British Columbia's Coquihalla Highway, from damaged bridges to washed-out sections of the road. It's one of the most important routes in the province. Here's how engineers and road crews managed to repair and reopen the highway so quickly.

Gonna have to say the same about Abbotsford... bottom of a natural lake might not be the best place to keep your home.

Hopefully the NPS & Yellowstone have similar plans & contacts... Or take notes from how everything was done in BC.

The province of British Columbia did a study on rain effects spending around $4 million
They did nothing to the study recommended and now we have to spend $800 million to fix it
    Thank you British Columbia government

Do you think coateskylie that they should have put elevated sections of the highway when they rebuilt it? Glenwood Canyon highway in Colorado is one example.

They could have used as solar and wind to fix that.
    Oh wait.... nevermind.

It just kills the BC government to admit that had it not been for the Trans Mountain Expansion project underway along the Coquihalla, the damage would have been much worse. The equipment and personnel were already there all along the Coquihalla which made for rapid response and damage control. They don't want to admit that.

Isn’t that interesting? Not sure what they stand to gain from not mentioning that. I was Atv’ing along the stretch of hwy 5 east of hope just days before this flood and saw countless pieces of heavy machinery positioned all within serviceable distance to the major damage. Couldn’t have planned things much better if they knew it was coming. Not sure why they don’t get the credit deserved….
I’ve also heard stories 2nd hand that a lot of the overbearing environmental protections were overlooked in order to get things fixed so quick. While i appreciate in normal circumstances that these measures take place, this was a time where we had to sacrifice a couple salmon and frogs in the name of getting this corridor re-opened. Perhaps this is the reason we may never hear about all the details of what really took place.
Hats off to all the crews and their hard work to get this open in a very short time
