      Except for OK. Man, they butchered the great riff in OK with the lyrics. And maybe Dicke Titten, though I just dislike the lyrics on that one (since it's basically the Rammstein riff)...

    The word play here is that "Schwarzer Mann" has two meanings - the mythical bogeyman but also "black man / PoC" so it could also be seen as people waking up and reflecting that Angst is a construct used to make people put distance between each other, mistrust each other then fear and hate each other ...

    A little on the imagery/meaning: The video/song can be read as a commentary on fear of immigration. In Germany, Europe in general, a lot of fear is spread around immigration from Africa, because of immigrants trying to reach our shores from the southern continent. So the "black man" that everybody is afraid of can be taken as the boogie man (contextual meaning) but also literally, the black man, which would be the exact translation, going back to an old children's game that kids have been playing in Germany for decades. Of course, Rammstein are not racists, but they're highlighting how people are being pushed into being fearful of the other, the guys in the video fencing themselves in, while the refugees at the beginning and end of the video are also fenced in, probably not by their own free will. People fencing themselves in by definition also means keeping other people out. And we have a lot of fences going up around Europe these days. It's also a commentary on how the internet, irresponsible media shores up fears in people and the cheerleaders could be a reference to the US, selling bricks and guns to people, spreading their influence, not often a good one, across the world. And yes, the song is a banger. Highly recommend the new album. While it's a little more thoughtful than earlier albums, there are quite a few bangers on there. And rumours are it may be their last album, so go and see them on tour, while you still can.

    • @llothar68
      @llothar68 2 года назад

      You are looking too close with immigration. It's about the whole Querdenker/QAnon movement that breaks apart societies and is feeding. There is a discussion who the cheerleaders represents. Americans tend to say the government, while in Germany i think they are the supporters, the watcheres, the ones who give them stage to spread this Querdenkertum.
      By the way, the history of the "Black Man" instead of Boogeyman (this is "Der Botzman" which isn't used for almost 100 years anymore). The "Black Man" is taken from the colonial past of Namiba. So yes, it's explicitly a black African.

      I think the video should be viewed as a tragedy in which an all consuming, maddening and irrational fear is the inevitable downfall of our protagonists (the band members)
      In my oppinion the term "Schwarzer Mann" could meen multiple things at once:
      - "Schwarzer Mann" the "Bogey-Man" as an unknown imaginary evil spirit. A mad fear of something which is not real.
      - "Schwarzer Mann" a human with dark skin tone. Refering to an irrational fear which leads to racism.

    Till addresses both the old German children’s game “who’s afraid of the boogeyman” and like the genius he is twists and turns it to address Xenophobia/Racism in modern times as a result of migrant influx by singing “who’s afraid of the black man” and how ? Because there’s a refugee mother and child surrounded by barbed wire and there are politicians with extreme views that could be the boogeyman themselves, scares it’s citizens by telling them the “black man” or the “coloured man” that is a foreigner/migrant will come and take over their livelihood which in all honesty politicians do.

Till's terrifying vocalization backed by those raw heavy riffs and drum beats just brings on the goosebumps making you feel the Angst.😨 Rammstein turns 28 years and are still going strong with all 6 original bandmembers. Because of 3 simple things: 1. They are democratic, atleast 4 out of 6 must agree before anything. 2. They always write their songs together. 3. The most important one according to Till, Richard and Christoph: Relation Therapy. It shows since "Zeit" is annnoying my neighbours for 3 weeks now 😂 As this album is easy one of their best.

    a small thing for the end at 5:25:
    they are seen eating an iconic german waffle-cake with foam, covered in chocolate. It's known as a "Schaumkuss", a "Foam-Kiss" now, but up until not long ago it was called "N*gerkuss" or "N*grokiss". We then zoom-out to what looks like people in a war-torn region reacting to that situation. In my understanding, that undermines the seemingly good nature of PC in minute details, since more pressing problems are not adressed.

    Just some remarks:
    The several times mentioned "Schwarze Mann" ("black man") is known as a child fright figure in the German-speaking area ("Wer hat Angst vorm Schwarzen Mann" = Who does fear the black man). Depending on the region and time, it was understood to mean different beings: a dark shadowy figure or a man dressed in black. As a metaphor, the "bogeyman" reached a "peak" as personalization of evil, savagery, and the unknown in the course of colonization, and in the process also acquired a racist connotation. In this context, I find the consumption of those sweets (German so-called "negro kisses") at the end during the end credits very interesting, which work through this "black man" symbolism.
    Also the colors usage is interesting (Black/White/Red representing the Nazi-color Spectrum). I also found it interesting at the end of the credits that when the TV was destroyed, the color came back into the picture.
    Further, I noticed that the pie-like plots seen from above correspond to the "political symbol" at the lectern where the singer, wearing a straitjacket, gives his speech. After these borders & plots collapse during the wild shoot-out, the politician, unleashed by the straitjacket to spread his propaganda/fear.
    Cheering on the cheerleaders is the equivalent of pitching an idea/product and the dancers are slammed with money to sell the bricks and guns to the landowners.
    This Clip has many layers and can be interpreted in many directions. I see there is a statement on xenophobia and populism/media.

    I'm also amused to see your reactions, Angst means fear, in all its states.
    So if you want it, I could translate it for you in English.

    [Lyrics to "Fear"]
    [Intro]
    [You)
    [You]
    [You]
    [You]
    (YOU.)
    (YOU)
    [Strophe 1]
    When the children are ill-bred
    Already the father has threatened
    "The bogeyman, he will take you
    If you don't do my bidding"
    [Pre-chorus]
    And we believe that to this day
    So in fear are the land and the people
    Something bad will happen
    Evil is coming, won't go away
    [Refrain]
    And the fear grows into the night
    Door and gates are guarded
    Backs wet, hands clammy
    All are afraid of the bogeyman
    [Post chorus]
    [You)
    [Verse 2]
    In darkness he creeps up
    If you're not good, he'll touch you
    Never trust a stranger then
    So much nightmare, so much delusion
    [Pre-chorus]
    And so we believe to this day
    Heavily armed is the mob
    Oh, they can't help it
    Shouting fire in the alleys
    You might also like
    [Refrain]
    And the fear grows into the night
    Not a wink of sleep
    Backs wet, hands clammy
    Everybody's afraid of the bogeyman
    [Post chorus]
    [You]
    (YOU.)
    [You]
    [Bridge]
    Who's afraid of the bogeyman?
    Who's afraid of the bogeyman?
    Who's afraid of the bogeyman?
    Who's afraid?
    [Refrain]
    And fear grows into the night
    Not a wink of sleep
    Backs wet, hands clammy
    Everybody's afraid
    [Outro]
    [You]
    [You] Bogeyman
    [You]
    [You] Black man

    Once you realise it is about fear of "The black man" the video takes on a whole new dimension. One of my favourite Rammstein songs, I think.

    • @cs3818919
      @cs3818919 2 года назад

      That's the literal translation but a it also means the boogie man. Everyone is a afraid of a boogie man. Everyone has a different boogie man but often times the fear is only in your head. The media (symbilized by the TV's) also comes into play by stoking and amplifying those fears. As a result we build up walls to protect ourselves from that which we perceive as the threat which might even be our neighbor.

    • @sugelanren
      @sugelanren 2 года назад

      @@cs3818919 they use Africans at the start and end of the song...do you seriously think the double meaning is just a coincidence? The amount of people who reply with the bogey man thing (which I am well aware of) makes my brain sad

    • @cs3818919
      @cs3818919 2 года назад

      @@sugelanren I mean it's possible. But I was born in Germany and speak fluent German and that was not what I got from it. Someone else suggested that for Europeans one of the boogie men is immigration, with some of them coming from Africa and the middle East. I'm not ruling it out. Rammstein in known for double meaning and provocative themes.

    • @sugelanren
      @sugelanren 2 года назад

      @@cs3818919 no, but my brother lives in Germany. The African mother and child in both the beginning and end, in what looks like the aftermath of the main body of the video, would lead me to believe that the double meaning was very intended.

    The cheerleader moves including the chanting in the beginning and the end are probably referencing the "Haka Dance" done by the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand. It is supposed to intimidate your opponents. Supposedly the band's bass player, Oliver Riedel is one of those cheerleaders, but it is not confirmed yet AFAIK. The candy which the band eats in the end was called "Negerküsse" "Negro Kisses" back in the day. The name was changed a couple of years ago.

    I love this video clip! Have enjoyed Rammstein when Sehnsucht hit the scene. It's a very profound opinion on modern life in the western world. So melodic! "Fear the black man. The black man is coming for you" are the main lyrics. Reminds me of horror novels I used to read with face in cobwebs.
