Agreed. It says on the computer that Paul Simon is not a poet when you ask the question if he is, but I think that songs like this stand up against much poetry with very fine music to back up the haunting brilliance of his words. He teaches valuable lessens in his words and his songs have been friends to millions of people.
hey,Freddy, i know what you mean. it's not that line for me,but the bass and guitar line after the chorus in Graceland. it hits me hard every time and i don't know why.
Man, this is a sweet song. That man has written more quality songs about the human condition and being on the road and all that other stuff that indicates that life is a mystery to be experienced. Love that man.
@@lucabez You know that I posted my comment a year ago. So I get to revisit it just now. It's still so sweet. A couple of things I noticed this time (three actually): Look at the juxtaposition of Jarosz and Simon. I like that this display of talent is generational. She gets to hang with all the greats. Simon's two generations back in time. Andrew Bird, an indie star is up there backing Simon up...he's one generation back. And that bridge with the two fiddles. Right on the money. Chris Thile...look right there at the end of the tune. His clenched fist gesture of success, he knows that they nailed the song.
That fiddle gives it a melancholy tone which really works. Paul sometimes goes out of his way to deviate from the original melody, but he's faithful to the original here & it's all the better for it. Absolutely beautiful song.
Thanks for all you have given me since i as a boy .50 years of joy :) Paul Simon, Sting,Mark Knopler, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones. What would my life be without you :)
This is my all-time favourite Paul Simon song - this performance introduced me to the awesome talent that is Sarah Jarosz (Banjo) and I am now an accidental bluegrass fan... to add, that fiddle and harmonics are just amazing... really adds to the performance.
Paul Simon played the soundtrack for my youth. Chris Thile (in all of the various forms in which he appears) is the sound track for the last 15 years. This song is like having my life flash before my eyes...and it is beautiful.
And my long years of innocence ended Well, she took me to the woods Saying here comes something and it feels so good And just like a dog I was befriended I was befriended Oh, oh, what a night, oh what a garden of delight Even now that sweet memory lingers I was playing my guitar Lying underneath the stars Just thanking the Lord for my fingers Just some of my favourite lyrics. Lots of my favourites come from the pen of PAUL SIMON!
Thanks so much for watching clips of Live From Here, if you enjoy this checkout Chris Thile and Punch Brothers new musical variety show, The Energy Curfew Music Hour. Season one is streaming here: bit.ly/ecmh-season1
Just awesome! So pure...going down and back to his roots. Good old Pauli...and this beautiful band backing him with so much feelin'. Thanks so much for sharing this!
Every bit as good as the version on 'Live Rhymin' with Urubamba. I was learning guitar at 13 yrs old when I played this song to my parents. I had no idea why the opening lines caused their eyes to widen...
OMG What a great moment. One of my Favs performed by this monster side by side these young talents. So cool. This songs talk about the landscapes of this country as well the day by day stuff..., they are burned in our imaginary forever.
I watched this video when it came out and I had no idea who these extremely talented musicians were, it was after a few years I was introduced to Bluegrass and now I'm a fan of Punch Brothers et al
This is just an amazing group of musicians and gives the song an entirely new angle. Wonderful from beginning to end. I'm really curious what that note said, though!
I am so pumped - I am going to see his Farewell Tour on 9/7 in Tampa.... CANNOT WAIT...., have always loved this man's songwriting and composing style...
+Paul Jacobson How little his voice has aged is ridiculous. My friend reckons he's got some sort of Dorian Gray thing going on and his real voice is locked in an attic somewhere! He's definitely aged the best of all the senior statesmen of music.

This group of musicians oozes talent. And Paul Simon isn’t bad either. Just the best singer-songwriter ever. The group nailed this.

That violin!!!
"Just like a dog I was befriended". Ever since hearing that line for the first time it always gets me right in the gut.

I just saw this. I have exactly the same feeling with the bass line in graceland. This guy has got some magic in him
Freddy Lubin why?
@@normatible9795 So joyful and so sad at the same time.
Freddie lubin,, yes,,the song is poignant and that line “ just like a dog I was befriended”, is sad, a person is so vulnerable
Gosh, he writes the most perfect songs...
He does indeed.
Yes
I wished I wore a ring so I could hock it.
Man, this is a sweet song. That man has written more quality songs about the human condition and being on the road and all that other stuff that indicates that life is a mystery to be experienced. Love that man.
hi Dennis,
I absolutely agree with you! This music teaches us to love life!
All the best

No doubt. It so cool seein this talented new generation playng them, just like sarah performing Kathi's song.
I think many people found this song when it was used in a small movie entitled “Ten Items or Less” with Morgan Freeman.
October, 2021. The world is spiraling out of control. I'm so glad I found this video. For a few minutes life is fine again.
2024 sayin', "You ain't seen nuthin' yet!"
The man is a genius.
Simply the Best American singer and song writer

Wow. then again, Andrew Bird, Paul Simon, Chris Thile. And my newest favorite drummer, Ted Poor. :O
Best version of this song I ever heard.

Que Paul Simon regale al mundo maravillas como esta hermosa cancion hasta que las fuerzas se lo permitan.
Saludos desde Peru
I was there. This was absolutely amazing.
wow!
Oh you lucky person I wish I could see him live. Would love to go to the next Chris Thile show this month but it’s a bit far to travel 😢
If you turn your head away from the screen this sounds like the original record. Unbelievable how well his voice has aged!
arniebunny
No.
Amazing - he is just amazing. Clear tone of an angel's voice. Thank you Mr. Simon for the gift of music and rhyme.

....even now that sweet memory lingers... and you see the stoic band break out into smiles :)
I have so much respect for this man, great musicians as well. He still sounds so wonderful, so excited for Stranger To Stranger.
Love the opening lines of this song. So risque for 1972. I was a college Sophomore.
one of his best songs.
Paul Simon is on my bucket list to meet and sit down for a chat...
Just awesome! So pure...going down and back to his roots. Good old Pauli...and this beautiful band backing him with so much feelin'. Thanks so much for sharing this!
What songs America, Lincoln Duncan, The Boxer, who's lyrics just stay with us all our lives..
I so love that the band gets that they are playing with/for a legend. How lovely :-)
fantastic lyric-plus 2 fiddles and a banjo lady-every thing about this song is perfect
The man still sounds super... lovely version... can't wait for the new album...
Every bit as good as the version on 'Live Rhymin' with Urubamba. I was learning guitar at 13 yrs old when I played this song to my parents. I had no idea why the opening lines caused their eyes to widen...
Speaking of "learning guitar" . . . ruclips.net/video/AXBlY5CImUU/видео.html
I'm so happy he started playing this song again. Paul you're great! Do it one more time for the fans; invite Artie out on tour with you, please...
He did not perform this song on his farewell tour. (Yet--has been mixing it up a little on the encores)

How did I miss this last year?! What an amazing blend of instruments and musical talent!
Inspiración pura de la música del Perú.. tierra de los incas.
Great straightforward rendition of this small masterpiece.
This was a wonderful show, bringing many fun memories as I watch the snow fall so beautiful. Paul Simon Thanks for all you do.
I can't stop listening to this. It keeps hitting me deep in the feels consistently.
Lance, A good poem will always speak to the soul
Iused to play this all th time when the album came out-but P Simon wouldnt play it live....till 2015...worth the wait.
Piggy-218 what’s the album called. Pardon my ignorance
@@juliemacsween8326 Paul Simon, its a self titled record.

TOUR WITH SARAH JAROSZ AND THE PUNCHBRO'S !! XOXOX
I am so pumped - I am going to see his Farewell Tour on 9/7 in Tampa.... CANNOT WAIT...., have always loved this man's songwriting and composing style...
Amazing that his voice hasn't changed in 50 years. Astounding
My dad loved this song. I miss him
Soo beautiful!
magnifico Paul... come sempre.
Who is listening to this in October 2019?
Lisa Poulin I’m listening 😃
Me.
Me! When this came out, I was a virginal teen longing to be one of the “couple in the next room tryin’ to win a prize”...
And in 2021
So good, that song, the lyrics, and still got that voice!
mas que extraodinaria es esa cancion, su autor, su interprete:PAUL SIMON
pure magic
What is that lovely stringed instrument Chris is playing. So sweet.
Good song. I remember when it came out in 1972.
His voice in 2016 is still the same as in the 60/70s
¡FABULOSO EL GRAN PAUL SIMON!
Tout simplement magnifique !
Beautiful song and performance, which the Peruvian magic still there (although I prefer the 1973 version with Urubamba)
Brilliant. Beautiful.
Thank you so much for this !
I didn't know he did this one live, thank you!
Nothing but applause from me.
Que MARAVILHA. Beautiful and wonderful.
Very happy I came across this. Wish I was there.
Best cover of this song ever!!!!
brilliant...sir Paul....well done
He sounds so great!
Still the Man!!
one of my fave songs of all time.....Met a doctor named "Dunkin" and recited this to him.....Laurie
Please listen to this song on the album ‘Rhymin Simon’....just perfection.
It's on the album "Paul Simon," not TGRS.
Seriously musical group of players. Nice!
You're the great sing a song writher. Paul. Slip slidin away. All the way . From South Korea.
Hermosa canción. ....Me encanta😀
wonderful..thank you so much!
did anyone notice jude law is playing the mandolin?
I didn't know he still sounded this well! The new song "Wristband" gives hope for a new album!
+Bergenslarsen Paul Simon's voice is still virtually unchanged.
+arniebunny He's been looking frail on some of the newer photos of him. I agree with you. Still sounds beautiful.
+arniebunny I was thinking the same thing. You could close your eyes and it sounds very much like the original recording.
+Paul Jacobson How little his voice has aged is ridiculous. My friend reckons he's got some sort of Dorian Gray thing going on and his real voice is locked in an attic somewhere! He's definitely aged the best of all the senior statesmen of music.
Woah this dude sounds SO much like Paul Simon!
The guy sounds awesome for 100!
Let's not hold any grudges get in the studio humanity needs a good song!
Una de las mejores versiones de este tema. Se añora la flauta pero las cuerdas lo hacen muy bien.
Con el grupo Urubamba del Perú,es para mí lejos la versión, y mas siendo en vivo.
wow, great version. i think this might be paul's best band since the band from peru(was it machu pichu?). thanks for sharing!!
+bryan mannoia Urubamba! Check out "Live Rhymin'" from 1974.
Best live version since Live Rhymin'
His old songs are the best.
HEAVENS!
He's still got IT.
Paul Simon's tendernense is so so..
excellent
unbelievable
Like an answer to The Boxer
Semplicemente meravigliosa
The smallest little change to the lyric is like a nod to the 21st Century. In the original he creeps to her tent with a flashlight.
What ever happened to prairie home companion that morphed into the Chris Theilly show then live from here. Great shows.

The Quentin Tarantio guy is all I can channel. Love Paul but all I see is Quentin jammin out
Well...I see Jude Law ;)
LOL, the Jude Law guy is Chris Thile from Nickel Creek :)
And the guy next to "Jude Law" playing violin kinda looks like Ryan Gosling with a full beard and stach :) :)
M a g I c a l .
Love this song. Just wish the cameraman knew what he was doing . . . .
Great string band
Kind of Chris had gotten his mandolin tuned before one of the greatest songwriters ever started to play.
No kidding. What a dork up on stage. "Hey, look at me, everybody, I really groove with the music.......oops, out of tune."
RIGHT?? And what's with the charts all over the floor, this is a standard
Somebody should beat him with it.
Jude Law was killin it on the mandolin
fantastic
I know i know I know i know 🎶
