Hi Stikker Fam!!! Since are a playing a little catch up, we will be posting the most recent Vikings and Mandalorian reactions over the weekend.
Welcome back, Nikki.
Glad to see you back. The world got a little brighter.
Yep, glad you're back & healthy! Catch ya next vid!😁
Napalm38382 such a nice comment, I totally agree!
Hey Nikki, glad you’re feeling better! Hope you’re still taking it easy. It’s amazing how much better the day feels when I get an upload notification from you guys.
Glad you’re doing better and thank you for the upload!
Apparently, when this episode first aired, there was a suicide prevention hotline number after the ending.
Yes, I remember seeing it. My mouth was still open after seeing what Chuck did when it popped up lol.
Yeah, shows do that. A lot of people relate to the feelings Chuck had at the end, and sometimes viewing suicide on tv, and without a warning, can trigger those emotions and thoughts in people who are suffering already. It’s the show being responsible, which is a good thing. Mental health needs to become normalised conversation.
As someone who has been depressed for years, I totally understand that. The scenes with Chuck hit so hard. These scenes still make me feel very uncomfortable.
Makes sense. Plenty of people with suicidal thought out there are likely watching this show and seeing it on screen definitely isn’t helping them.
It was hard man
I like how Kim once said that suing HHM would be career suicide. Chuck actually does sue HHM, and it leads to his actual suicide.
Ironically, I thought that would be how Saul Goodman would get created, Jimmy suing HHM
Whoever they got to play young Chuck at the beginning did such a great job at mimicking older Chuck's speech patterns.
Chunk Of Coal it’s still the same actor
mythra 717 No they brought the younger Michael McKean from the past. Really shows the thought put behind this show
TheBagelragel exactly
So true.
they used his actual voice recording as a kid. talk about phenomenal filmmaking, detail and writing
Michael McKean was amazing as Chuck. He made you feel all sorts of things.
Laura 22 don’t know if it’s true but I heard that Bryan Cranston recommended him to Vince
@@kookiexo2298 Not surprising because Vince created a character really particular like Walter White with a personnality very hard to pin down so yeah it's possible he guessed him to do the same thing with a character in BCS
Mostly I just hated him. Felt a little bad early... and always bad when someone kills themself but he was grade A pompous and jerk even though he was right sometimes and knew Jimmy's faults.
Mostly various sorts of hatred though XD
Season 1: "Don't worry Chuck, that's not smoke you smell, that's me!"
Season 1: "Those lanterns are a fire hazard. He could burn his house down."
Season 3, Episode 1: "You had this old night light... it used to get so hot we thought it'd burn the house down."
Season 3, Episode 2: "Is this all there is, or did you make copies? Huh, Chuck? You tell me or I swear to god I'll burn this whole house to the ground!"
Shows that can subtly do stuff like this make for great re-watchability
Also in s3e5 when Jimmy showed the pictures in court, he said that the lantern on top of the newspaper was a fire hazard.
There's also a comment the doctor says at the hospital about him potentially setting his house on fire iirc.
@@DreamOfTheRebel Yes, I believe she said that right before recommending Jimmy have him committed.
DreamOfTheRebel that’s the season 1 quote he mentioned. Amazing how it can all foreshadow and hide in plain sight
Watching Chuck's downward spiral was so intense. He fell right off a cliff. In one episode he:
Shamed into walking out of HHM after Howard hit him with the harsh truth that Chuck himself betrayed HHM, and Howard specifically.
He was so bitter he took it out on Jimmy, wanting Jimmy to hurt. You could tell he didn't mean it.
He started freaking out about power usage in his house so badly he destroyed his own house, trying to find hidden powerlines. When he couldn't find it, he destroyed the meter.
All that tipped him over the edge, and he no longer wanted to feel this way. He didn't want to feel pain, anger, disappointment, frustration, and the sense he had lost his greatest treasure: his mind.
Stunning.
Perfect encapsulation. Chuck's greatest fear was that he had a mental illness, and he spent the entire series trying to fool himself that he had a physical aversion to electricity. He always needed to be the smartest person in the room.
He reminds me of Walt in his inability to face reality and his overwhelming intellect that he constantly postured.
*All it takes to break a man is one bad day.*
@@prot07ype87 That is 100% true. Especially when you're already vulnerable.
Chuck's entire thing with electricity started when his wife left him. Always felt his relapse was because of how he treated Jimmy. Everything else was window dressing...well maybe Howard a little bit too. Still I mostly feel what he did to Jimmy really made him feel guilty and caused him to relapse.
@@prot07ype87 "That's how far the world is from where I am. Just one bad day."
Ozymandias is still number 1, but in some ways 'Lantern' affected me more than anything on Breaking Bad. Seeing Chuck spiral back down to rock bottom after all his progress, then the final scene...it's so depressing and got me in a way Ive never experienced in any other TV episode.
Anyone else feel more sad watching BCS than BB? I think its because I care about the characters a little more than I did in BB.
@@edwardganuelas9178 I care about Jimmy more than Walt, but I care about Jesse more than both of them. Honestly, I think most of the sadness in BCS comes from the relationship between Jimmy and Kim, because they are such a great couple and it hurts to see their relationship struggle. And Kim is one of my favorite characters in this franchise.
If Skyler wasn't so annoying, maybe the conflict between her and Walt would be sadder lol.
Another ep that also affected me was the one with the german. Keeping it vague not to spoil for anyone :p
@@israymervalentin-arias6313 chuck was an asshole, but even so its sad watching a mentally ill person's life fall apart and then see him commit suicide in an extremely painful way. Shit's fucked up.
@@edwardganuelas9178 thats because BCS hits closer to home. In BB you have meth, drug deals, heists and explosions.
In BCS? You have family issues
"I think it's time for Chuck to crawl into a hole, with a lantern, and go away"
Aged like milk within the hour
I mean--the hole was 6 feet deep, so it's still accurate
@@TrueRetroflection holy shit
Yikes, yes
I really appreciate you guys not viewing Chuck as a one dimensional character, just defaulting to calling him an asshole. Seeing you both show concern during his mental break down showed me you were able to really 'get' his character.
agreed, Chuck was 90% mental illness and 10% chuck but hes been suffering for so long that everyone thinks hes 90% chuck with 10% illness, i feel like he did a great job of showing mental ilness and how people just go into an escapable dark place
From a Reddit user on Chuck's mental breakdown:
Chuck has an absolute meltdown after his conversation with Jimmy. His inability to reconcile with his brother despite his contempt for how Jimmy treats the law is what ultimately destroys any chance of him getting better. He thinks he is doing himself a favor by hurting Jimmy and doing Jimmy a favor by just telling him if he's going to be Slipping Jimmy he might as well go all the way.
So he ends up doing two things that completely went against his character, he enabled his brother to just be the con artist he's becoming rather than try to right his path and he also hurt the person he can't help but love.
And then he has the meltdown. He lost his legacy, he destroyed the relationship between him and his brother, and by destroying his house he realized he's never going to get better. Ever. So what does he do? He sets himself on fire using the very device that symbolizes the bond between Jimmy and Chuck that has been there since the beginning of the series: a lantern.
That is amazing. I guess i never really understood the lantern thing until now. Thanks for that post.
Holy. shit.
Damn, who was that?, they should write movies.
Omg. No wonder why I felt depressed!! Such a neatly well written episode.
That is the difference between good and bad writing. In a bad show people will dissect and pull out every little thing that is wrong with it no matter how small or inconsequential. But if it's good, internet will never stop searching for hidden signs, meanings, metaphors and allegories regardless if they are placed intentionally or not
Kim looking terrible still looks amazing
Not only the make up of the damage, the actor really nailed it with her expression. Kinda of a sad, shocked, stoic acceptance of her realization.
@@pigpiggypigbigpig681 it is such a shame that Rhea Seehorn is overlooked at all of the award shows. She should have easily won a few awards for playing Kim.
@@jamesosteen09 yeah she should have at least been nominated at the Emmys
@@austingilcher6687 nice pfp I love that album
I think she’s hotter tbh then when she wears a ponytail and in a suit
Chuck's last words to Jimmy was "But the truth is, you never matter that much to me."
I was hugely impressed with the actor who played young Chuck-his voice and intonations are so similar.
The meter represented Chucks final bits of sanity this episode. He tore down his house as if it were the last parts of his own mind and when he couldn't find the last piece of flowing electricity he just smashed the meter as if to give up looking for what would bring him peace and accept his situation was not fixable. He gave in to his condition and was finally broken. Very sad.
Chuck's final days really remind me of _The Telltale Heart._
Red Sparrow A+
The irony is that Chuck ended up hurting everyone around him too. The difference is that Jimmy could eventually live with it, but he couldn't.
with intense scenes like these, how can anyone say BCS isn't that good of a show?
TJ No one is saying that
@@obiwankenobi4713 so you're aware of everyone in RUclips comments then right?
TJ On this video? Cause I’m not seein any. Here or on any other better call Saul videos
@@obiwankenobi4713 okay then I'm sure I didn't such conversations in community tabs of RUclipsrs. Since you checked I guess it never happened
@@obiwankenobi4713 uh...that's not how it works. People who don't like a show aren't going to comment on reaction videos for that show. Unless they're hate-watchers, but BCS is not the kind of show that attracts hate watching.
I don't think Chuck's exit was seen by others at the law firm as a walk of shame. It was a respectful farewell, nobody outside the room knew that Howard is paying him off of his own pocket. And howard didn't do it to shame him either...he's been an important part of the form and howard would want him to retire respectfullg in the eyes of everyone else
Towards the end there i think, when Chuck relapses and and turns off the electricity; laying in bed in the dark he realizes that hes alone. He managed to drive everyone away including his friend and trusted partner Hamlin and even managed to drive his brother away who atleast took care of him and his wife left him long ago. No one was coming back for him or atleast anybody he thought mattered and that sent him spiraling.
"The truth is, you never mattered all that much to me". What a cruel thing to say to your little brother. I know he's not perfect but he has always cared about Chuck and took care of him ever since he had his condition. Im sure Chuck didn't mean it based on the look he gave him at the end but still. What a tragic story.
Yeah Chuck was definitely lying when he said that. Lying not only to Jimmy but probably to himself as well, and him saying that was what undoubtedly broke him. Though it's even sadder that that was the last thing Jimmy heard his brother say to him
@@george5954 Truly heartbreaking.
As someone who is in a family of 4 siblings, this is something you should never, *EVER* say to your sibling.
No matter how much you may hate them in that moment. No matter how much you want to hurt them, even just a little bit. Under no circumstances should you ever tell them "You never mattered all that much to me"
Maybe he said it so that Jimmy would stop caring about him? Maybe Chuck knew what he was going to do and wanted to make it easier for Jimmy to deal with the upcoming situation?
@@sandercohen3309 naw, he didnt plan his suicide. Once he relapsed that night in bed, it was down hill from there. He tore down his house, no longer a lawyer, unable to leave his house, cut ties with his friends, colleagues and family, he knew he wasnt going to get better. He probably didnt even plan it until he sat down at his desk, looked around and realized he had nothing
Chuck burned all his bridges. He lived in a very small world. There were only two people that he interacted with that actually cared about him- Howard (his one and only friend) and Jimmy (his one and only relative). And in this episode he destroyed what little was left of those two relationships. He probably loved that law firm more than anything else, but he sued it and was shown the door, so he no longer has that in his life either. No Howard, no brother, no law firm. So what's there left to live for? I think 99.9% of us would gleefully retire with $3 million in our pocket and travel the world. But Chuck couldn't because of his mental illness. Sometimes when you win, ya lose.
It was ironic that Chuck kept harping on how Jimmy hurts everyone around him, when in the end, Chuck hurt everyone around him too.
Don Hector not only didn't get the medication he needed for his heart condition (? at least I think that's what ails him) but he also smacked his head hard when he hit the concrete.
Yay for Kim. Glad she's taking a break. And kudos to Jimmy for righting his wrong with Irene.
Loved the way the writers wrapped up all these situations and that none of them felt forced or rushed.
Glad you're back. Enjoyed your reaction.
Theres something about going to a video store and leaving with a bag full random flicks that netflix n chill just doesn't touch.
Blockbuster and Hollywood video were legit.
I don't know if you noticed, but throughout the second half of the season Jimmy was getting deeper and deeper into inmoral/criminal behavior but snapped out of it once Kim had her accident. I think the writers were trying to say that, even with so many problems, Jimmy was still a good guy at this point in the story.
@adrianramirez6848saying this is weird since the writing is complex to the point where n9t everyone is entirely good or bad. It’s making it black and white and boring because chuck did have a conscience he just wanted to hurt jimmy
What a fascinating relationship Jimmy and Chuck had. They loved each other but Chuck could never get over the fact that Jimmy was the favorite child. Even on her deathbed with Chuck next to her, their mother was calling for Jimmy. Chuck always did things the "right way" and in his eyes Jimmy always did the "wrong thing". Which was somewhat true for a long time. When Chuck was thriving as a lawyer, Jimmy was being Slippin' Jimmy and constantly needing Chuck's help. Chuck probably liked the fact that Jimmy wasn't as successful as him. When Jimmy became a lawyer he was shocked but also upset. So he never let him work at HHM. Jimmy took care of Chuck and was starting to turn a new leaf until he found out Chuck essentially was jealous of him. He never gave Jimmy a chance to change. Instead of supporting him he tore him down because he always viewed Jimmy in the same light. Which wasn't fair. Even though Chuck might've been right about Jimmy, he never realized one thing. Which was that Jimmy became who he was in great part because of Chuck himself. This led to a downward spiral for both of them in different ways. That relationship set the tone for this show. It was odd at times, it was loving, it was fierce, but most of all tragic. Excellent, excellent writing. 📼🚑🔥
As someone with a Jimmy for a brother I don't think Chuck was overly unfair to Jimmy. Some people never change..
I'm late for this reaction, but I disagree with some of your points.
I wouldn't say that Chuck liked the fact that Jimmy wasn't as successful as him. He prevented Jimmy from working at HHM as a lawyer, because he firmly believed that a (former) con artist really shouldn't be a lawyer. He believed that Jimmy will always have a tendency to use shady methods, even as a lawyer. And we as the viewers know he was basically right, although he also partly contributed to it. But even before Jimmy found out about Chuck's duplicity, he already had resorted to "slipping" in the first episode. It just accelerated later.
Chuck's main guilt is that he hasn't been honest with Jimmy. And since he's an antagonist and he's quite annoying, he's naturally disliked and often blamed for more than he deserves.
Chuck did support Jimmy as a public defender. Something that was more than good enough for Kim later, but it wasn't good enough for Jimmy in S1. When Jimmy brought the shredded papers from Sandpiper, Chuck helped him again. Jimmy could have a "proper" career at the other law firm, but he refused it in an ugly manner. That wasn't Chuck's fault.
Chuck probably had some influence on Jimmy slowly changing into Saul, but I wouldn't say a "great part". As for the influences, I think worse than Chuck's duplicity and lack of faith was little Jimmy helplessly witnessing con men fleecing his father (and thus he became one of them). But honestly, the main person to blame for the evolution to Saul is the grownup Jimmy himself.
My interpretation isn't that Chuck dislikes that Jimmy was the favourite.
He sees himself as honest and his brother as a liar.
This isn't accurate, because Chuck is a _sneaky_ fucker, but he simply doesn't trust Jimmy and doesn't want anyone else to. Because that means all his rule-following is worthless as soon as Jimmy comes along.
Mental illness coupled with Narcissism, that's a nasty combo.
@@edwardganuelas9178 I haven't finished the most recently aired season, but I can only think the anxiety disorder he developed claiming it was from electricity came from when their mom was dying in the hospital bed, she yelled for Jimmy instead of Chuck. It's why he never could care for Jimmy anymore, because it would conflict with his narcissism.
@@XisoLate I think Jimmy is just as much to blame. The whole episode and old woman subplot is illustrating that on certain levels Chuck is right about Jimmy. It doesn't matter that Jimmy is sorry and means well he repeatedly uses and hurts people. His resentment for Jimmy is justified.
Do you think Jimmy would've "slipped" if he ever truly got the acceptance he wanted from Chuck?
@@XisoLate Jimmy started "slippin" from a very young age though as soon as he started stealing money from their father and it ballooned from there. Based on the scene where Chuck is reading to a much younger Jimmy I can't imagine them not having a good relationship before Jimmy developed his selfish personality.
I think Chuck was dragged to Jimmies level yes. Much in the same way Skylar was dragged down by Walt. I don't think he was the catalyst. That was Jimmy.
@Jordan Simeone Shut up, Jimmy fanboy.
When Chuck finally lost it, he really lost it
📼🚑🔥 One of the most distressing final scenes to an episode I've ever seen. I hated Chuck, but I never wanted this to happen to him. This is a guy who needed serious help, who had severed all ties of friendship and family and was left feeling like he was crazy. What a character, what a performance from Michael McKean.
This gets a like before even watching, just on the basis of being happy you're back!
Oh how the mighty fall! A brilliant mind, grade A career, wonderful and rich life - all done and dusted.
Hated Chuck yet couldn't stop myself from feeling sympathy for him at the end! Michael McKean, what an actor! what a performance, undoubtedly one of the best portrayals in television history! Such raw emotions portrayed so brilliantly and meticulously. That entire scene where he tore the house down laying bare his angst his emotions his frustration while battling his mental sickness, my God - I felt goosebumps!!
Sorry for this long post, just my love for bcs coming out! Glad Nikki is feeling better and waiting to embark on the season 4 journey with you folks! Much love!
The way Howard crushes Chuck was sooo perfect. Easily one of my favorite ten scenes in the whole show
The scene with Chuck basically destroying his own house stuck with me for a while. Amazing, harrowing episode. I said it once and I repeat it: in some aspects and in certain moments, BCS manages to be even better than Breaking Bad.
Season 3 is by far the best season of BCS. Season 4 isn't quite as good. Great performances, but the storytelling wasn't as profound.
@@Jeremy-jm3fe Nah.
@@johanliebert4622 Good argument
I think Chuck needed Jimmy to keep going, even if it was a completely antagonistic relationship. As someone who suffers from mental health issues, if you have nothing in your life to motivate you, your anxieties will eat you from inside.

16:02 ME TOO! It’s something our generation’s children will NEVER understand. The feeling of excitement and curiosity when you would walk through the doors. The only way I can think to describe it to them would be like.......... PHYSICALLY walking around Netflix’s options with very little information about each movie. You know what movies you WANT when you walk in. However they may not have that option. So if you really want something to watch you’re gonna have to decide solely on the details you can get from the movie’s case. We didn’t have smart phones back then to research the movie you’re contemplating. You just had to use your judgement with the few details you could gather. It was so fun. I am sad for future generations. 😔
I'm a simple man. I see your BCS video, I smile, I like, I watch.
I know Chuck is hated. But throughout the show he has many good valid points against Jimmy. I’m not defending him but still. It’s really sad to see a mentally ill character go out in such a horrible way. It’s actually quite sad when you step back and think about the bigger picture. Because as we know from Breaking Bad, most things Chuck sees in Jimmy comes true.
If a guy goes into a building and sets it on fire while yelling "This building is gonna have a fire!" Your first thought wouldn't be "Well, the things he said we're true"
nope, he really does not. he is the biggest reason jimmy becomes saul.
It’s really sad because if chuck would’ve just given jimmy a chance both of them would’ve been dominating at HHM and it’s a damn shame because jimmy actually tried to be a good man and do the right thing....
Yeah they would’ve had Howard and Kim’s full support too... the four of them teaming up against Sandpiper and all the other cases would’ve been the best, and they would’ve if Chuck gave Jimmy a shot at change
This was a hard episode for me. I always have issues with my family but I still love my family. My biggest fear is I’ll get disconnected from a family member and they’ll just go one day. I live in that paranoia all the time. Nevertheless I’m glad you are finally back to BCS. You’ll finish in just the right time now (almost) for the release of Season 5.
this episode's hard for me as someone with OCD. they captured the image of involuntary compulsive self-destructive behavior in a really disturbing way :(
It's finally here! I'm glad you're feeling better, Nikki, and that you waited until then to react to the final.
I know it was a sad moment in the show, but your mouths at 26:13 was pretty hilarious. 📼🚑🔥
11:10 "Just take your little lantern and go away" *oof* this hurts to hear, knowing how it ends
"It is personal..." Hector Salamanca's last words.
unless you count the "suck my dick" he spelled out in BrBa lmao
What would Jimmy be without Kim?? Lol He’d be Saul Goodman 😂
yeah
That synchronized jaw-drop at 26:14 is great.
One important detail with the flashback at the beginning is that Chuck is reading the book The Adventures Of Mabel to Jimmy. Way back at the beginning of the season when Chuck and Jimmy were taking all the shit off of Chuck's walls Jimmy found that book and mentioned that their mom used to read it to him, and Chuck replied that it was actually Chuck that had read it to Jimmy, and seemed a bit hurt that Jimmy didn't remember. It shows that at least at one point Chuck really did care for Jimmy and still remembers that time quite clearly, so when he tells Jimmy that he never mattered to him it's absolutely a lie. And as much as Chuck may hate his brother now he still crossed the line in his own mind and that starts him on his downward spiral.
Yay!!!!! Our girl Nikki is feeling better!!!!! I've been anxiously awaiting this reaction............LET'S GO, YO!!!!!!
Welcome back Nikki glad your feeling better
You guys hit the nail on the head, it's simple storytelling but done well without the need of being over the top and showy.

I Wonder why.....
Welcome back Nikki! Glad you're feeling better!
Glad seeing you watching theses reactions , hope you like it !
Good to see you PBat
I don’t think Chunk didn’t care about Jimmy. He loved his brother and wanted to see him succeed. He got him a job in the mail room and got out of the sunroof case. But he feels betrayed by his partner, brother and himself. He’s hurt Rebecca and feels he’s gone to far to redeem himself or salvage anything at this point. So he hurts jimmy where it’ll hurt him the most. Sad but very realistic all humans are flawed in some way. Even legendary lawyers like Chunk.

26:14 exactly how I was when I first watched it. And I watched it live so I had to wait a year to see what happened📼🚑🔥
Year and a half!
Fun fact: during the 4 days it took to shoot Chuck smashing up his house, Michael McKean stayed in character between takes, and was so convincing that many cast and crew members started to worry that he was having a real-life mental breakdown.
Rhea Seehorn said that Michael would smash up a wall and then the props department would bring in another copy of that wall. Over and over. Can you imagine?

Great "The Conversation" nod there.
OMG Chuck destroying his home is so obvious a reference to The Conversation. Can't believe I didn't notice before.
Chuck=Walt : resentment-filled, hate-filled, self-deluded, egmaniacal GENIUSES...one wields hate with the law, one outside the law...Howard's reaction to that 'wait till you see me as an enemy' is utterly justifiable
Howard has always been an under the radar great character. Hes portrayed as a dick a lot, especially to Jimmy, but he does truly care about his firm. He just wants what's best. And it's hard to blame his dislike of Jimmy honestly.
He doesn't dislike Jimmy. He wanted to hire him in HHM and got him the job in Davis and Main.
Such a great show. The impact of mental illness on one person affects all around them. Chuck just could never get over his breakup with Rebecca
Rewatching this again, this moment was foreshadowed since Season 1 multiple times.
Cool, PLEASE don't change from tues and Thurs for this show I donate plasma those days and its a comfort to come home knowing I can watch you guys. Glad Nikki is better
I freakin love your videos. As someone who's watching the series alone and having all the emotions by myself, watching your reactions feels like some way for me to let it all out
Love the end shot of the flames thru the window ...
The house behind me was actually on fire today
Chuck spent three seasons holding Jimmy's back as a lawyer. He did everything he could to bring him down only to lose his brother and Howard's love and respect for him and losing his law firm that he worked so hard to build. So here's the question, was it all worth it?
I'm glad you're feeling better Nikki.
Chuck never lost his brother, Jimmy has always been faithful to him and waited on his needs patiently. I think Chuck himself severed ties with Jimmy because he was envious of him for most of his life; the way that he was able to make people laugh and bring them happiness just by being himself, and did it without even trying. That insecurity was the breaking point in this season.
I never got the impression that Jimmy wanted to end their relationship. Chuck did this to himself. He's had a level of superiority complex ever since they were kids.
That's a very serious and important question in this show, for Jimmy/Saul seems to ponder all the time over his brother's hollow success, and then he dreads to go on the same righteous path of a sanctimonious hypocrite like Chuck... Maybe that is a deep reason for he, Jimmy, to despise so much the way and rules of conventional corporate lawyers, even if belonging to that world was once his own deep dream, too. The rise and fall of Charles McGill sets Jimmy firmly on the path of becoming that scumbag of a showy criminal lawyer we see in BB, Kim Wexler good influences notwhistanding. By the way, these deep reasons probably can explain, in part, why Jimmy/Saul somehow lost that wonderful woman, whatever the way she finally goes...
I'm late for this reaction, but I don't agree that Chuck did everything he could to bring Jimmy down. He helped him by getting him out of jail and employing him in his firm, drawing him out of the influence of his con artist buddy Marco.
Ironically, Jimmy totally surprised Chuck by becoming a lawyer. Chuck firmly believed that a (former) con artist really shouldn't be a lawyer, and since he didn't want to confront Jimmy about it, he went behind Jimmy's back to prevent him from working as a lawyer in HHM. Normally, who could blame a senior lawyer refusing to accept a partner with such problematic past. But since Jimmy is the protagonist and Chuck is the annoying antagonist, we tend to side with Jimmy. Of course also Chuck being insincere about it didn't help.
Whenever things weren't going the right way for Jimmy, he quickly resorted to shady methods. Even before he found out that Chuck was lying to him, so we can't really blame Chuck for Jimmy's methods in S1, and then he just continued.
Jimmy had his chances to be a lawyer who is playing by the rules and helping people. Chuck did encourage him to continue his career as a public defender. Something that was more than good enough for Kim later, but it wasn't good enough for Jimmy in S1. When Jimmy brought the shredded papers from Sandpiper, Chuck helped him again.
That Chuck didn't tell Jimmy directly that he doesn't want him as a lawyer in HHM was bad, but even after that, Jimmy could work for the other firm and it wasn't Chuck's fault that Jimmy decided to quit the firm (in a very awkward manner).
Chuck was annoying, and he partly contributed to the transition from Jimmy to Saul. But for the most part, Jimmy himself is the main person to blame for not becoming a "proper lawyer", not Chuck.
Glad to see Nikki is doing better! And so happy to see the finale with you guys! Excited to see the mandalorian episode!
17:20 I am with Nikki. I think Chuck was clearly lying when he said that Jimmy didn't matter to him. If that was true, he wouldn't have tried to help him in the first place. Or cared that he was unethical. I think he was being cold, cynical and defensive when he said that. But what he said about Jimmy inevitably hurting people was true, in my opinion.
The irony is that his hate and cruelty toward his brother did not make him a better person, like he intended, but made him worse, I think this among other things contributed to his decision to kill him self
Jimmy hurts people but without intending to. He will even hurt himself to make up for it (The Bing Scene) Chuck hurts people on purpose. He does it with ill intent.
@@j3pelfrey It isn't that simple. Jimmy rarely tries to actively hurt people, true (although he did try to get revenge on people by hurting them on purpose a couple of times, like he did with Chuck's insurance and with Howard in the last season). But regardless of intent, the consequences of Jimmy's actions end up being much, much worse than Chuck's at the end, as we see in Breaking Bad.
And Chuck's motives aren't completely bad. He helped Jimmy several times in the past, by getting him out of jail, and by giving him a job. He cared for Jimmy as a brother, and he wanted Jimmy to do well in life, as long as it wasn't as a lawyer (a good example is also that he had the opportunity to try to sent Jimmy to jail when Jimmy broke into his house to destroy the tape, but instead he chose to just go for his lawyer license), but Chuck's motives weren't as pure as he presented them, a big part of his motivation was that he deeply resented Jimmy.
So yeah, it is true that a big part of Chuck's motivation was resentment, and that Jimmy's victims are mostly unintended collateral damage, but it is not that simple.
chuck's mental breakdown was i one of the most uncomfortable thing ive seen on BCS, it was so well made, it actually made me feel bad for him so much
It’s so sad to see what Jimmy and Chuck had as kids vs what they have as adults. It seems like Chuck once provided guidance, but that guidance turned into pride and contempt.
And Jimmy didn't really seem to heed Chuck's guidance for very long once he found an easy way to make money as a kid.
Nikki watching tin foil wearing Chuck taking all the light bulbs out : "Are you insane?"
Me : Yes, yes he is
He always was
I agree 100% on what you said about the show making on first glance such simply stories so potent and tense.. I think as well that the fact that we know more or less where the story is going it just adds up to the level of intensity.. The next season's finalle will worth all the build up over the rest 9 episodes.
at 26:42 Steven goes "What the" and right before he can say "fuck", a Raid Shadow Legends ad censors him LMAOO
I LOVE the way Howard looked at chuck’s hand when it offered it. Perfect
Glad you’re feeling better. We missed you!
Glad to see you both back.
In addition to Chuck, the amazing performance of Hector in this episode is underrated.
Jimmy and Chuck’s last conversation is a super critical moment
Hey guys and welcome back, Nikki! Glad you’re doing better!
I know Chuck could be an utter asshole, but he’s been dealing with some real mental and physical health issues. With HHM, he had reason to keep fighting to get back to his former self, but without that and without his brother, the pain was too much. And I completely understand that.
Glad Kim is taking it a little easier for now! And Mrs Landry has her friends back, that woman is a kind soul and hated seeing her trying to get by without her girl friends.
And agreed, Gus totally knew something was up. Nacho didn’t jump in to do CPR on his own boss and Gus had to do it. Gus’ face when Nacho banded the pills to the paramedic, he definitely knew.
Lmao at the VHS description!! Looking forward to season 4 with you guys!
📼 🚑 🔥
Great reaction! I'm glad Nikki is feeling better 📼 🚑 🔥.
Season one--the doctor who looked after Chuck when he was admitted to the hospital told Jimmy that Chuck's house was a fire hazard.
Season three-when Jimmy breaks down Chuck's door in anger, he says he will burn his house down to the ground.
Season three-during the disbarment hearing Jimmy shows a photo from Chuck's house during the trial and says he lives in a fire hazard.
We really should have seen this coming.
For the longest time, season three has been my favorite, followed by season four with the first two seasons RIGHT below it. However, doing my own rewatch and watching with you guys... Season four is really growing on me. They might be tied, now. I'm really, REALLY excited to watch S4 with y'all! There are some GREAT moments still to come.
I’m glad to see you back at it Nikki, welcome back!
I love this channel, y’all are so unfiltered and funny and lovely.. everything!
Especially love the reactions to this show, it’s so nail biting. I think it’d be cool if y’all reacted to one of The Take’s analysis videos. They’re really good at explaining small details that we miss through our first watch of the show, and showing how it connects the story more and more.
I hope I don’t sound like an ad, but goddamn this shows is so good, I can never get enough. I truly couldn’t imagine what’s gonna happen in season 6
I miss blockbuster too! Walking in, grabbing a movie or two with your sweetheart or friends on a Friday! Such a simple thing but, it was fun!
This is the episode I've been waiting for you guys to do. This is one of the most intense episodes in the series, and I loved getting to see your reactions to it. Keep up the great work. Love your videos!
Just as I like to watch the best episodes of BB and BCS every now and then, I also like to see your reactions to those episodes every now and then and this is one of my favorites!
I didn't catch this at the time, but part of me thinks potentially Chuck was as nasty as he was to Jimmy was to protect him from the paim of Chuck trying to end his life. I wonder if he didn't want Jimmy to be broken after he was gone.
I'm not sure that's true, but it's a possibility.
I Dont think that
I dont know why Netflix doesnt have it but when the episode originally aired on AMC, just before the credits it had a suicide awareness slate pop up briefly something along the lines of “if you or someone you know is considering suicide please call this number” but it doesnt have it on netflix
the way nacho was walking was like when jesse was walking to those two drug dealers
Yeah!!!😯
I thought it was Jesse at first
Steven (re: Kim) "Like, what would this guy be without her?" Me: "He'd be SAUUUUL GOODMAN!!"
This is the episode that made me change my mind about Howard and like him. Chuck in the end won, but at what cost. Winning doesn’t matter if you lose everything else in the process.
I’ve watched this episode back when it aired on Netflix and it was mind blowing. Seeing this reaction of you guys is like reviving that, what a glorious episode. And maaan, the music during Chuck’s breakdown… you can feel how he’s tearing down apart, the trumpets get progressively chaotic. Fantastic in every single way.
"So you wanna work for me?" 🤣
Totally worth the wait, glad to see you doing better Nikki.
I love reliving these episodes through you guys, such a good show, such a great season finale.
You're back....I'm so excited 😎
You shouldn't feel old, I'm 20 and I watched movies on VHS till I was like 10 years old.
Though that might've been a result of my parents being scared of taking that step to newer technology or something.
