  • Here is some footage of me re-grinding a mid-1800s Sheffield straight razor.
**Keep in mind, I had already done 45+ mins of grinding before this point on this blade! **
Please subscribe if you like this video, I will be doing some more videos about regrinding, hopefully with more editing and a lot more information than just straight footage.
Check out my website @ www.maggardrazo...
I do Restorations and Custom scales for all types of straight razors.

Great videos and I look forward to seeing more of them.. I really appreciate you sharing your experience with us. I have started to do a few restores myself and by following the steps you have demonstrated in your other videos they turned out better than I expected. I am definitely a fan of your work.. Thanks again..

That carbon fiber scale is very handsome.

Can I regrind a razor that has too much steel on the blde with a stone? What stone?

Very nicely done! Wish I had your skill, and a place to work other than the basement. For me I have to stick to hand sanding. Anything more has to be sent out.

I'm really curious on how you would do this with, for example a full hollow ground. Would you use a smaller wheel to get into the smaller space?

hey brad,, just wondering what advantages there are to this as opposed to using a buffer? buffer will do the same thing, just slower?
also,, id like to get a buffer one day. can you recommend one? i would watch your vids again but my audio on my pc is out for some reason. ??

What kind of a grinder do you use? Is that 8 inch wheel in the video

Hi Brad =] how much did this grinder set you back? is it a custom setup?

So does the regrind turn the vintage wedge into a hollow or half hollow? I couldn't tell from the after shots.

that's too big of a wheel to turn it into anything, this guy has no idea what he's doing. Amateur.

Can you sharpen pocket knives this same way? If so, how much $$?

    • @parkersouthgate2091

That would ruin your knife. Get a sharpening stone and learn to use it

    Interesting question from Reddit,
    tcpip4lyfe:
"Wonder why he's wearing a full mask like that? I've used many grinders but never wore anything but safety goggles. Of course I've never used 1200 grit paper either."

Not worried about changing the temper?
I don't know what temperatures are usually generated in that particular process but the fact that sparks are flying would worry me. The change in temper would be small but personally I would prefer a slow grinding wheel, especially since it's an antique. One of the major components of a straight shaving razor is the temper of the metal so to change one of the legacies of the antique like that, sorry to say, I cringed a little.

well noticed, this undreamed22 aka maggord guy is a loser, he thinks if a blade is mirror polished it would shave. That's why he has been asking Carter Murray to hone his Straight razors, cause he can't figure out the 16 degree angle relation between the bevel and spine :)) That angle is the most important thing they developed hundreds of years ago

Sounds unlike me... unless I was giving you honest advice / advising you it might not be worth putting money into a particular blade.
