Great band! Rhythm section is killing it, and hot Rod has top 5 greatest rock n roll voices of all time. They don’t make music like this anymore, sadly. Thanks boys!
@@ianreynolds9733 what a time for me getting right into classic rock absolutely brilliant music, The Who, Zeppelin, Free, Deep Purple and all a the fantastic music from the 60's bands also, will never see or hear music like this ever again, throughout the coming years there's been some fantastic new bands also who l absolutely love, and keep on Rocking, cheers mate 👍
100% TOTP. The Faces recorded the backing track earlier and mimed to it, with Rod singing live, when they were filming...hence the lack of leads in guitars. Wouldn't have mattered in Ron Woods' case as his Toilet Seat guitar didn't work anyway - it was put together as a joke.
100% definitely TOTP. What Jim says below is spot on. A few years ago BBC Four did a programme devoted to Ronnie Lane and his various BBC performances. This was shown as Jim says preceded by RL singing "Richmond" from their "Long Player" LP. They even showed the presenter link before it (done by Tony Blackburn). The LP slot was something only done in 1971 and was short lived.
Definitely TOTP-remember watching it.They introduced an "album " slot during the early 1970's which didn't last long-each week an artist would showcase a couple of tracks off their latest "Long Player"-Faces did Richmond & this off Long Player.
I am thouroughly convinced that Rod was, for lack of a better word, blackballed in the R&R world. Jimmy chose Robert because he knew, or thought he knew, that Robert would not outshine him. This is whty when the Faces were no longer no serious "band" would hire Rod. They knew he would totally eclipse anything they wanted to accomplish. I firmly believe Rod to be the very best R&R singer of all time. Sorry Freddie, you may have the range, but Rod has the soul that nobody could match.
@@JeffJacenty I will agree with this to a point, but he was forced into "Disco Rod". this proves my statement. R&R bands didnt want him. They wanted a colloborative effort and they werent going to get that with Rod. But even as "Disco Rod" he still shamed anyone else with his soulful voice and true virtuosity. Dude even went "Pop Rod" and still killed it. Selling out stadiums in the 90's. And in the words of Rolling Stone Magazine "when I saw him, I coulnd't believe he was white".
Pretty sure this was from 1970 on Top of the Pops. The Faces performed on the show in March of that year. One of my very favorite Faces songs. Meant a lot to me growing up.
It was originally TOTP. It was reshown a lot over the last few years as part of the BBC4 Totally British:70s Rock And Roll series: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01r3pm9
Plonk, KJ, and Ian should have recorded an album title "Was it Something I said" what with Steve Marriot leaving the Small Faces and Woody and Rod leaving them from the Faces. Nevertheless, two of my all time favorite bands.
I only came across this recently - bloody good, just ignore the pratting about. They had some great tracks around this time. You Wear It Well, Maggie May, Stay With Me etc. Good nostalgia.
No, it is Top of the Pops. For a brief time in the early 70's they did an album slot in the show (Rolling Stones, Elton John, Neil Diamond etc. all did one) They played 2 songs, this and Richmond, the album slot didn't last long and TOTP soon returned to the top 40 format
I can’t believe I’m 58 and just heard this song today,, what a raw classic,, better late then never I guess
Absolutely great song,
Blew me away when this was included in a episode of the Sopranos. Bought this when it came it out and loved it!!
Ditto mate
Peeps? That’s a fuckin nickname
I think Michael Imperioli directed that episode, I wondered if he picked it?
@@christopher9196 Steve Van Zant I believe chose all the music for the show
Oh that makes sense. Thks.
Just amazing. One of the best and tightest bands going. Why isn’t music this good anymore?
Rap ruined everything & social media ruined the rest.
Possibly England's greatest rock and roll band ever.
They were briefly the best band in the world.
No shadow of a doubt
Great band! Rhythm section is killing it, and hot Rod has top 5 greatest rock n roll voices of all time. They don’t make music like this anymore, sadly. Thanks boys!
Aerosmith, GnR, & the Black Crowes owe everything to the Faces.
Preach on man absolutely testified all that
Even Chris Robinson was a Rod lookalike
Absolutely
The Band The Black Crowes wished they could be!
Who owe everything to the small faces
Outstanding classic Rod Stewart before the disco bug bit him😎😎👍🏻 Another great Soprano’s song also-Welcome home Tony Blundeto😎😎
Fantastic track by The Faces and a great testimony to Ian McLagan.
We sure miss Mac. xo
To have seen them live would've been a dream that I can never fulfill. Thankfully we have RUclips to dream with.
Hi Ian, my first ever live concert, December 1973 at Glasgow Appollo.

OMG! Rod Stewart was at his prime with the FAces
Absolutely brilliant. Love this song so much.
For such a small guy, Kenney adds such a BIG sound to this band. RIP Mac and Ronnie Lane. We luvs ya.
Great sound here, agreed. But he WASN'T big enough for The Who unfortunately....
That animal.... Blundetto.
Not a soprano fan but it's good to see people finding the faces&the real rod
I prefer Rod with The faces rather than his solo work.
just heard this song for the first time today. Love it.
Rod the mod absolutely class band the faces rods solo career never fazed me but the faces tremendous
I agree, Rod and the Faces, early seventies. Great times!
Ronnie's Toilet Seat Guitar ! ! !

Great british group.. with Rod Stewart on vocals, Ronnie Wood on guitar, Ronnie Lane on bass, Kenney Jones on drums and Ian McLagan on the piano..

Wow…..all I can say is wow. Live recording too.
it is top of the pops. they had an lp slot - the faces played two tracks from long player - this was preceded by ronnie lane singing richmond

I remember seeing it on a top of the pops rerun years ago, instantly turned me into a fanboy of ol Ronnie, bloody great humour. :D

Thanks ... that makes sense! This video has been uploaded by others and some say TOTP but I think you are right.
Fantastic performance either way.
as Martin says below from TOTP it was featured on the "Album Tracks" section on the show broadcast on 29.04.71
Who is Cynthia? He sings of her many times.
I hope that bloody top of the pops crowd knew what they'd seen that night
TOTP when they used to have an album track each week
Wtf this band is great
everyone full of talent not like todays rubbish
This was from a BBC TV Special.
Why this band didn’t become as Big as the Stones and continue to this very day, I have no idea?
They never really had the makings of a Varsity band
@@Mantis_Toboggan_MD.nice one. I disagree but respect the reference (outside of a Sopranos video).

Kenny Jones is what I imagined the kid from Forrest Grump grew up to look like.
Wasn't Ronnie Laine sooooo cool, though?
Ted Bruning Yes.

Fantastic! Just love every note and everybody here. Rod is so sexy before he got so vain ...
I would love to find tabs on how to play these licks :(
I think this was on Top of the Pops originally, but I might be wrong.
That voice always remained…
One of the lads' best ever tracks. Not sure about Kenney's tash though. Looks like a scouser.
Nope! not on Top Of The Pops, it wasn't a single. They only did singles on TOTP. It was a Beeb Saturday evening special apparently.
