If you go back to Nottingham you need to check out the pub called "the pit and pendulum" in the city center. Very awesome rock and metal pub based on Edgar Allan Poe story really gothic and the downstairs is awesome I think you would love it

Nottingham is not far from me. I live in the Northern part of Nottinghamshire in Worksop. The birthplace of Horror Icon Donald Pleasence. I had a meeting with the local mayor to have a blue plaque put on his birthplace. The council approached the new owners of the house but they didn't want the plaque. What a shame.
I miss shops like that, used to spend hours in VHS shops in the 80's and 90's. I got rid of all my VHS but did keep the Nightmare films. The VHS is still the only way to watch the uncut versions of the first and fifth films.
Aww.. I just found out we got our Fopp back (thought it was gone forever after Broadmarsh closed)... Having to avoid it for now though.. can't afford the sort of money I always end up spending in there 😂
Rob at the 80s Video Shop is great. Amazing little store. I’m lucky that I have something as cool as this in my local town. I try to visit as much as I can. Chris that also runs it is also very cool to chat to. A did a whole video with them going through their shelves and discussing the indie movie that they filmed in the shop 😱
At 2:49 behind the red bus there is a shop called "That Weird Shop" you would of loved. They have all sorts from vintage toys, clothes, deco, crystals, witchcraft, bones, costumes on 3 or 4 floor levels.
I live just outside Nottingham and on the way to Alfreton and didn't know that shop was there. I was already very much aware I'm getting on...But that little time capsule bedroom literally had my curtains in a different colourway. (I also had matching duvet cover that I think I've still got somewhere). Cool video, enjoyed!
That 80s store looks like what some people make for themselves in their homes, usually in the basement, to recreate a small store, with shelves and even a checkout corner with glass display for snacks and action figures and such, only this one is open to the public!
I'm from NZ and just stumbled across your channel and have subbed immediately, i love physical media too, that was a great watch, really enjoyed it, i laughed out loud when you mentioned the public transport network in the US, here in NZ its an absolute joke too. BTW you have a superb sounding voice and would be great as a radio dj i reckon.

In fact, it's considered as a reference within the animation industry and is even referred to fondly as "the animation Bible", so if you own only one book on the subject of animation, that is the one to scoop up which is lavishly illustrated, provides a wonderful history of Walt Disney Studios and the artists that worked there when Walt was alive, and there are tons of tips and animation techniques discussed in the book that are perfect for any budding artist or for any seasoned animator. :)
I'll have to say you totally underestimated your phone, the lighting in the 80's vhs shop looked awesome. I find traveling to be relaxing and a lot of your content is too helping my love of all thing's horror. I think it's very cool you got to go to Nottingham, where myself haven't been to Europe, but would love to.
Man this video gives me nostalgic for older physical media places thar don't exist anymore. Like Suncoast , FYE, and Virgin Mega store. It's makes me happy these type of stores still exist somewhere.

Enjoyed this one, being local to Nottingham I often find myself disappointed that there isn't more independent video game or physical media shops in what is a large, University city. I think a retro video game shop would do well in the city. Keep up the good work

Help me hook it up lol! Some avid hard media collectors turned their spare room, attic or basement into a video rental store. And this topic might be on your next horror news , when Redbox turned up, they put Blockbuster and other video stores OOB. Today, video streaming apps are putting Redbox OOB. In a few years, some avid hard media collectors will turn their rec room into a Redbox.
You'll find smaller towns/larger villages in the U.K. will have cooler shops in general than cities and larger towns, so it doesn't surprise me that a pkace like Alfreton has such an interesting 80s themed shop like this. Nice video.

I’ve heard of Nottingham but never been myself. I’m am so convinced to go now! I wonder if that CEX place is pronounced like sex? Lmao is the C like an S? Love that even in the UK, the scooby gods shine upon you with those sick clothes! When I visited Salem, we came across some awesome vintage places that had movies, books, games. It’s more brick and mortar so I like that we have that still in a country dominated by streaming. I mean you mentioned Barnes and noble but one B&N store close to my house actually closed down!! We still got stores in town but it’s weird that some big stores are closing but then small ones will open up that aren’t as popular or visited as much. It’s crazy… That’s so cool that Lianne got the directors cut of blade runner! I actually bought that same dvd myself at a small store and it’s great cuz it’s a different cut than the Final Cut which was released in 2007 and is the only version on streaming!! The og directors cut is from 1992 and the dvd copy I got was made in 1999! So glad I picked it up! Thats 80s shop is so rad! The vibes remind me of what I saw in Salem! But your store was much more abundant with stuff and so vintage!! I’m so jealous! And a theater? You know I’d be renting it out if I could for movie parties! My horror cult sometimes rents out a studio space for movie parties and they’re a blast! Def do the American werewolf escape room if you ever go back! Bullmoose in Maine and New Hampshire are fantastic physical media stores with new and secondhand media.. books, music, movies, comics, graphic novels.. like HMV but better
There are some good physical media stores in Los Angeles. Amoeba Music in Hollywood near the Pantages Theater, Videotheque on Figueroa and Cinefile right at the 405 & 10 freeways. Many of the Barnes & Noble stores closed but the one at The Grove is still there and top floor has lots of physical media with DVD, Blu-ray and books on movies. A lot of these stores have lots of LP and even cassettes for music. You’re right in that many have gravitated towards streaming and digital purchase. I used to have a big collection of 1100 VHS movies which I donated to charity in 2006. Around 2001, I had started moving towards DVD and then Blu-ray. I still have those but buy very few now. Instead I have an online linked digital library of over 1000 movies. In the old days we had Tower Records, Virgin Mega, Wherehouse, Licorice Pizza, etc. DVD rental service Redbox is set to shut down after 22 years in business, as streaming continues to dominate the at-home entertainment market.
Don't know about standard releases, but a lot of the uk & Aus boutique labels have reversible sleves, so you can switch it over to the same art, but without all the age labels.
Just ordered 8 dvd’s ready for the October 31 movie challenge!!!! Luckily I have about 2000 dvd’s and horror is my favourite genre of film !!! And 2 dvds arrived in the post today !!!! Halloween 3 season of the witch and lords of Salem !!!! Hope all the physical media horror fans have a great October 🎃🧟♂️💀⚰️🤡
It's great having HMV, that’s where I buy 90% of my physical media. The US have Barnes & Noble with good Criterion sales, Kino Lorber, Shout/ Scream Factory, the list goes on. Pros and cons to both. It’s well worth buying a multiregion player. I bought a UB820 at Christmas, no regrets whatsoever. Region free is the way to go for a collector as some films only come out here or there. Age certificate on the cover isn't really a big deal.
Very interesting to randomly have in my recommended. It would have been interesting to see some American dvd covers for comparison as I didn't understand the gripe about the age restrictions so much as that's all we know here as brits. I'll have to see the other UK vids
If it wasn't for HMV over here we'd have nowhere to go for physical media except Amazon. I always go to the one in Liverpool. HMV has basically almost been going bust the past 15 years, but thankfully keeps surviving and being bought out. It's great for all the Arrow Video blu-rays.
On some of the UK 🇬🇧 Boutique Blu Rays such as Arrow Video, Indicator, 88 Films, Eureka Masters of Cinema etc there is usually reversible artwork without the age certificates on them ☺️ also on more premium editions and steel books they have removable sticker age certificates… I always take them off. I agree they look crap plastered all over the case. Love your channels 😈

I always watch your video s and all my live i am colecting physical media. You look like my daughter she also loved all this stuff but she is no longer with us and i miss her so much and looking at you and your video s makes me sad but also very good. Thank you and keep doing what you do.
Some really nice places and content. Yes it’s sad that many places are not carrying physical media anymore. 😓 Still I have a nice store in the mall near me that carries a lot of used stuff. Distressed clothing That was something I had to learn about when my family moved from NY to San Diego when I was sixteen. I always got brand new Levi pants 👖 and you had to wash them along two or three time. Move to San Diego, first day of school I’m in slacks, button up shirt and dress shoes. Boy was I over dressed for school. 🤨 So I go shopping at a store named The Gap and look around for clothes. I see the new Levi pants and the price and then I seen a rack of jeans I thought were used. I look at the price and they cost more than the new ones. So I ask the lady there and she tells me that they are pre-washed. So I ask her who wash’s them ? Dumb question. 🤔 Now you see Blue Jeans that look like they took a razor blade to them. 🧐 Go figure. 🙂
I agree, those age restrictions are way too big but they love placing that all over the place. Love the 80s video store, remember those really well, hired way too many videos in those
the only downside to purchasing U.K. edition media is that they sometimes censor some violence, I've noticed some differences in the past with some films compared to the U.S. editions. Always check the run time on the back just to be sure.
Availability, and the fact that older movies won't really look much different on DVD than they would on Blu-Ray as there's not much you can do with a 30 or 40 year old master.

what you want to look for is cash converters, you get the weirdest stuff in cash converters and a lot of locations can have very different stuff.

On some of the UK 🇬🇧 Boutique Blu Rays such as Arrow Video, Indicator, 88 Films, Eureka Masters of Cinema etc there is usually reversible artwork without the age certificates on them ☺️ also on more premium editions and steel books they have removable sticker age certificates… I always take them off. I agree they look crap plastered all over the case.

I loooooove the 80s Video Shop. Amazing place! If the guy had great hair it was Rob - check out his Straight to Video podcast! If the guy had a shaved head it was Chris, sho shot the movie One Night Rental in the shop! Great people.

Distressed clothing That was something I had to learn about when my family moved from NY to San Diego when I was sixteen. I always got brand new Levi pants 👖 and you had to wash them along two or three time. Move to San Diego, first day of school I’m in slacks, button up shirt and dress shoes. Boy was I over dressed for school. 🤨 So I go shopping at a store named The Gap and look around for clothes. I see the new Levi pants and the price and then I seen a rack of jeans I thought were used. I look at the price and they cost more than the new ones. So I ask the lady there and she tells me that they are pre-washed. So I ask her who wash’s them ? Dumb question. 🤔 Now you see Blue Jeans that look like they took a razor blade to them. 🧐 Go figure. 🙂

the only downside to purchasing U.K. edition media is that they sometimes censor some violence, I've noticed some differences in the past with some films compared to the U.S. editions. Always check the run time on the back just to be sure.

I don't understand why you still collect dvd the quality is so low vs 4k or even Blu ray.......is there a reason behind the dvd collecting?
I'm sure it's availability a lot of movies are out of print or super expensive
Availability, and the fact that older movies won't really look much different on DVD than they would on Blu-Ray as there's not much you can do with a 30 or 40 year old master.
